Sundaze 1241 Inside Out 10

Hello, time for some Inside Out, regular visitors will know I have a rather keen interest in the metafysical side of life, after all it's so much bigger then the material side, despite what those uber-materialist scientists and their socalled sceptic choir have been screaming with an everincreasing pitch. A losing battle with the truth, was in the old days religion the easy target, however these days the metafysical scope is much much wider and is able to present facts...

So here today for your infotainment a braintrainer and all you got to do is sit back and relax and if you open your mind to it, a book about NDE (near death experiences), seems there's a heavenly realm after all. A chance to explore the ways that the ideas underlying modern science can be applied to bend and twist the mind into new shapes, Buddha and the Quantum offers a challenging set of models and analogies. And if you need some more inspiration make shure to pick up Ananda Giri's Chakra Meditation a soothing soundsculpture.

Is there anything better than a nice, relaxing nap on a Sunday afternoon?
Dr. Thompson has an amazing ability to take you on a mysterious journey through your mind. Special brainwave patterns -- those shared by great meditators, artists, inventors -- are infused into these audios, allowing you to open your mind to states of greater awareness, and tapping into your highest potential.Pretty heady stuff for a Sunday afternoon nap. I drifted off for awhile, then woke about 30 minutes later feeling fantastically dreamy, and I had so many brilliant ideas, I could hardly wait for the CD to be over so I could get up out of bed and write them all down. Talk about inspiration!

Dr. Thompson uses pulses of sound that bring your mind into a heightened brainwave pattern, but it's all so beautifully embedded into a lush ambient soundtrack, you don't notice the behind-the-scenes "work."

The afterlife. Throughout human history, the idea that humans have souls that survive their physical death has been a never-ending source of debate. From neolithic shamans who spoke of traveling in other worlds, to the famous 19th century Spiritualist fascination with psychics and mediums, we have always been tantalized by glimpses of our possible immortality. In modern society, however, investigation of these topics has largely been frowned upon. Organized religions say that such things should not be tested - to do so is to doubt the deity in question, and we should instead show faith. Mainstream science and self-appointed skeptics, on the other hand, say that such things should not be tested because they are quite obviously nonsense and a waste of time - to do so is to admit that you are perhaps a little unhinged.

However, both organized religion and mainstream science ignore two key facts. Firstly, that neither of them are no longer answering the profound questions of personal existence (and non-existence) that all of us ask ourselves in those quiet moments alone. And secondly, that for centuries there has been a steady accumulation of evidence - that we can all assess - which is suggestive of the idea that our consciousness in some way survives the moment of death.

Evidence of the Afterlife shares the firsthand accounts of people who have died and lived to tell about it. Through their work at the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, radiation oncologist Jeffrey Long and his wife, Jody, have gathered thousands of accounts of near-death experiences (NDEs) from all over the world. In addition to sharing the personal narrative of their experiences, visitors to the website are asked to fill out a one hundred–item questionnaire designed to isolate specific elements of the experience and to flag counterfeit accounts.
The website has become the largest NDE research database in the world, containing over 1,600 NDE accounts. The people whose stories are captured in the database span all age groups, races, and religious affiliations and come from all over the world, yet the similarities in their stories are as awe-inspiring as they are revealing. Using this treasure trove of data, Dr. Long explains how medical evidence fails to explain these reports and why there is only one plausible explanation—that people have survived death and traveled to another dimension.

Buddha and the Quantum presents Samuel Avery’s theories about the intimate connection between the inner world of consciousness as revealed in meditation, and the outer world as described by quantum theory and relativity. Like many spiritual thinkers before him, he sees a deep significance in the notion that consciousness is embedded in the very fact of quantum events.

In the 80s,  a number of the early generation of works exploring similar themes, most famous of which was Fritjof Capra’s The Tao of Physics. A whole generation of thinkers, it seemed at the time, was forging a deep-level bridge between philosophies east and west, and between religion and science. Theirs was a hopeful spirit, before the emergence of fundamentalism soured the whole thing.

Avery has moved on from the frustrating vagueness of Capra’s references to ‘Eastern philosophies’. We’ve learned a lot since then, and have practised a lot, and that practice is the basis of Buddha and the Quantum. In his koan-like, crisp poetical style, Avery embeds articulate descriptions of meditation experience among his explorations of the philosophical implications of modern physics.

Some of his observations are strikingly insightful: ‘Buddhist meditation begins with breathing. Buddhism begins with morality.’ A simple point, often overlooked. He rightly emphasises that meditation is simply the extension and development of qualities found in ordinary consciousness, and that without a foundation in morality, this can include development of the unwholesome.

If you’re after a book on Buddhism, this is not for you. If you’re after a book on quantum theory, this is not for you. But if you want to explore the ways that the ideas underlying modern science can be applied to bend and twist the mind into new shapes, Buddha and the Quantum offers a challenging set of models and analogies.

Propelled by Dutch keyboardist and composer Maneesh De Moor's gentle surging waves of ethno-ambient chill/world Eastern sounds and Ananda Giri's deeply meditative velvet chanting, their odyssey into deep integration is not only spiritually enervating, but also musically rewarding. Sacred flute gracefully spirals in and out of the mix while the sweet chime of bells and the timeless resonance of Tibetan bowls tease the mind into a deeper harmonic alignment. The overall effect is a profound synchronization of body, mind and spirit through the atonement of each individual chakra. The Oneness Chakra Meditation could be listened to at any time of the day to get in touch with the timeless nature of our true selves. It's also perfect for a nocturnal meditation just prior to sleeping  straight to Samadhi awakening within the dream.
