RhoDeo 1105 Earthsearch

Hello, been noticing a slight decline in the interest for this series, well just 3 more episodes to go, including this one. ....Meanwhile the Challenger Gang had gotten themselves into a hole, luckily it wasn't as black as it seemed..It did however further degrade our Challenger 'angels' thus their hold on the crew...

The Setting

Some years before the story opens, the huge Earth starship Challenger, on a mission to find Earth-like planets for colonization, encountered a meteoroid shower that killed all of the adult crew and seriously damaged the ship. The only human survivors were four babies - two boys, Telson and Darv, and two girls, Sharna and Astra. The four have been raised from childhood by androids and tutored by two disembodied voices called Angel One and Angel Two.

At the end of Earthsearch, the crew of the starship Challenger settled on the Paradise planet, having never seen their original home planet that they called Earth. They left the Challenger's control computers, Angel One and Angel Two, in charge of the ship to continue the search for Earth. Four years later, the crew have settled into their life on Paradise, despite many hardships they are suffering. Then suddenly, one of their children is killed by a 'monster' that appeared from the sea.

It transpires that this 'monster' is actually an android from the Challenger, which has returned. When the sea level begins to rise, the crew are suspicious of the Angels. They notice a large amount of radiation coming from the southern horizon, and they fly to Antarctica in their shuttlecraft. There they find hundreds of towers embedded in the ice. The Angels are using terraforming equipment from the Challenger to melt the ice and thus raise the sea level in an attempt to get the crew to rejoin them on the ship. The crew are adamant that they will not leave Paradise. The flood gets worse and worse, and will clearly soon submerge all the land. They load breeding pairs of animals into the shuttle cargo bay, and when the water level gets high enough, the shuttle floats. The crew are surviving, barely, and have beaten the Angels for the time being. However, their situation deteriorates to the point where they have no more water to drink, so they eventually surrender to the Angels. First, however, they demand that the flood is reversed, so they can release the animals. Then they fly their shuttle up to the Challenger.
The crew are gassed by an android, and they become unconscious, to wake up again with a big surprise awaiting them.. When they come round, they discover that they have been in suspended animation for sixteen years. But the children, who were very young when they came on board, have been awake the whole time, and are now about twenty years old. Telson and Sharna's son, Bran, is now the commander. The Challenger crew have land on an artificial sun called "Solaria D", controlled by a computer who appears to be friendly. From the artificial to the real deal, that is, what's left of it exponentially increases Challengers troubles even the The 'Guardian Angels' cannot change its course and the crew are also powerless. Fortunately things are not as black holed as it seemed ...there's a switch to it..go figure. Android Surgeon General Kraken, designed by the Challenger's giant computer, has suffered severe logic failure, those angels sure don't make em anymore...

Hello, i'm a bit later as usual , but now i'm here and i got one of the highlights of the seventies, it didnt sell millions but served a higher purpose, their efforts were geared to be as efficient intermediar to spiritual awareness. Noble ambition indeed and one that got across.

Daevid Allen (born Christopher David Allen, January 13th, 1938 in Melbourne, Australia) is an Australian poet, guitarist, singer, composer and performance artist best known as co-founder of the psychedelic rock bands Soft Machine (in the UK, 1966) and Gong (in France, 1970). He is sometimes credited as "Divided Alien". In 1960, inspired by the Beat Generation writers he had discovered whilst working in a Melbourne bookshop, Daevid Allen travelled to Paris where he stayed at the Beat Hotel, moving into a room that had recently been vacated by Allen Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky. While selling the newspapers in Latin Quarter, he met Terry Riley and also gained free access to the jazz clubs in the area. After meeting up with Willaim S. Burroughs and inspired by philosophies of Sun Ra, he formed a free jazz outfit, the Daevid Allen Trio, and performed at Burroughs’ theatre pieces based on Burroughs' novel "The Ticket That Exploded".

Allen travelled to England, renting a room in Canterbury where he met his landlord’s son, 16 year old Robert Wyatt.. They formed the band Soft Machine in 1966 with Kevin Ayers and Mike Ratledge. Ayers and Wyatt had previously played in Wilde Flowers. Following a tour of Europe, Allen was refused re-entry to the UK due to overstaying his visa on a prior visit. He settled in Paris where, in May 1968, he took part in the protests which swept the city. He handed out teddy bears to the police and recited poetry in pidgin French, and now admits that he was scorned by the other protesters for being a beatnik.

Fleeing the police, he made his way to Deya, Majorca, with his partner Gilli Smyth. It was here that he recorded the first album under the name Gong, titled Magick Brother (released on BYG Actuel in 1969). They were joined by flautist and saxophonist Didier Malherbe, who they claimed to have found living in a cave on Robert Graves' estate. In 1971 Gong released Camembert Electrrique. They became somewhat of an anarchist commune in rural France between 1973 and 1974. They were joined by Steve Hillage to record the Radio Gnome Trilogy after signing with Virgin.

Allen left this incarnation of Gong and recorded two solo albums, Good Morning and Now Is the Happiest Time of Your Life. In 1977 he performed and recorded as Planet Gong and rejoined the early-70s version of the group for a one-off show at the Hippodrome in Paris. Portions of this concert (which was several hours long) was released on a double-LP entitled Gong Est Mort - Vive Gong!. In 1980 Allen teamed up with Bill Laswelll for the punk-influenced New York Gong. This effort yielded an LP called About Time. More projects followed, including Invisible Opera Company Of Tibet, Brainville, and Magic Brothers.

In 1981 Allen returned to Australia, taking up residence in Byron Bay where he worked on performance pieces and poetry. He performed with performance artist David Tolley using tape loops and drum machines. He is currently involved with a project entitled you’N’gong (a play on the phrase “Young Gong”) with his son, Orlando, and members of Acid Mothers Temple(the collaborations are performed under the name Acid Mothers Gong), as well as an improvisation outfit entitled Guru And Zero.

For many years now, Daevid Allen has been a member of the University of Errors, who have released four albums. In November 2006 a Gong Family Unconvention was held for Gong fans in Amsterdam which included a reunion of many former Gong members from the "classic" early 70s lineup. This participation was reprised in a small number of concerts held by Gong in London in June 2008, where Hillage and Giraudy were among the line up which also included Daevid Allen, Gilli Smyth, and Mike Howlett. These past years Gong has given concerts here and there with a changing line up..Then in 2009 the album 2032 appeared, produced by Hillage, with many of the old members present, the album build on the 73-74 Radio Gnome Trilogy.

Allen now lives in Byron Bay, Australia.

With Radio Gnome Invisible Daevid Allen showed his mytholigical hand. His quest to create awareness sublimed into a trilogy. His quest to spread spiritual awareness and share the knowledge he had gained about higher states of being and communication and how to apply which hallucinegans for a positive experience. He pondered how to bring the message across and chose humor (as to profound). He chose a deliberately a silly story as a way of opening peoples heads. All this against the backdrop of anarchy.

The Story as it evolves over the trilogy involves Planet Gong, an idealised version of what earth could become, Zero (the Hero) an everyman figure whose progress we follow, and several ancilliary characters like Pot Head Pixies and Octove Docters - not forgetting Radio Gnome Invisible, a telepathic pirate radio network operating brain to brain by crystal machine transmitter direct from Planet Gong. The story is based on a vision Allen had during the full moon of Easter, 1966 in which he claims he could see his future laid out before him. It forms the central theme of the Radio Gnome Trilogy.

The story begins on the album Flying Teapot when a pig-farming Egyptologist called Mista T Being is sold a "magick ear ring" by an "antique teapot street vendor & tea label collector" called Fred the Fish. The ear ring is capable of receiving messages from the Planet Gong via a pirate radio station called Radio Gnome Invisible. Being and Fish head off to the hymnalayas of Tibet where they meet the "great beer yogi" Banana Ananda in a cave. Ananda tends to chant "Banana Nirvana MaƱana" a lot and gets drunk on Foster's Australian Lager.

The second album Angel's Egg (1973) begins with Zero falling to sleep under the influences of the potion and finding himself floating through space. After accidentally scaring a space pilot called Captain Capricorn, Zero locates the Planet Gong, and spends some time with a prostitute who introduces him to the moon goddess Selene. Zero's (drug-induced) trip to the Planet Gong continues, and the Pot Head Pixies explain to him how their flying teapots fly (a system known as Glidding). He is then taken to the One Invisible Temple of Gong.

Inside the temple, Zero is shown the Angel's Egg—the physical embodiment of the 32 Octave Doctors (descendants of the Great God Cell). The Angel's Egg is the magic-eye mandala that features on much of the band's sleeve-art. It is also a sort of recycling plant for Pot Head Pixies. A grand plan is revealed to Zero. There will be a Great Melting Feast of Freeks which Zero must organize on Earth. When everyone is enjoying the Feast, a huge global concert, the Switch Doctor will turn everybody's third eye on, ushering in a New Age on Earth. The Switch Doctor is the Earth's resident Octave Doctor, who lives near Banana Ananda's cave, in a "potheadquarters" called the Invisible Opera Company of Tibet (C.O.I.T.) and transmits all the details to the Gong Band via Bananamoon Observatory.

The lineup on this album is absolutely classic Gong and includes Tim Blake (VCS3 and mini-moog synthesizers); Pierre Moerlen (drums); Mike Howlett (bass); Daevid Allen (guitar, vocals); Didier Maherbe (woodwinds); Steve Hillage (guitar); and Gilli Smyth (space whisper, vocals). A great deal of the music on Angel's Egg is very spacey, which is driven largely by Tim Blake's atmospheric synthesizer work, along with Gilli Smyth's cosmic and heavily-echoed "space whisper".

On You (1974), Zero must first return from his trip. He asks Hiram the Master Builder how to structure his vision and build his own Invisible Temple. Having done this, Zero establishes that he must organize the Great Melting Feast of Freeks on the Isle of Everywhere, Bali. The event is going well, and the Switch Doctor switches on everyone's third eyes except for Zero's. For Zero is out the back, indulging in Earthly pleasures (fruitcake).

Zero has missed out on the whole third eye revelation experience and is forced to continue his existence spinning around on the wheel of births and deaths and slowly converging on the Angel's Egg in a way which, to a certain extent, resembles Buddhist reincarnation.

RhoDeo 1104 Goldy Rhox 11

Hello, today the 11th post of the new format; GoldyRhox, classic pop rock. Most of the albums i 'll post made many millions for the music industry and a lot of what i intend to post still gets repackaged and remastered decades later, squeezing the last drop of profit out of bands that for the most part have ceased to exist long ago, although sometimes they get lured out of the mothballs to do a big bucks gig or tour.

Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accomodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.

Another classic from 72 by a man who already made a name for himself in Andy Warhol's Factory band, his first solo effort went south somewhat, but this his second hit the sweet spot, produced by Bowie who did some background singing aswell, this album hit the sweet spot, it's first unlikely hitsingle was walk on the wildside, sourced by his experiences at the Factory and a book with the same name, it past the banning committee that proved how out of touch they were, by having no idea what giving head meant and he was a she something they'd would love too. Anyway great classic and there are more on this album......another one of those "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die"

Hello, as promised last week , some more psychobilly today..a highpowered aand subsequently colourful lifestyle-without the big bucks or press mosquitos..as such it is powered by the internal drive, with highly infective results....

xxxxx

Demented Are Go got their start in Penarth, South Wales, near Cardiff. Initially, the band was disorganised, with Mark Phillips or "Sparky" playing drums, Ant Thomas singing, a bass player with his hair dyed red, and a "rock icon" with a gold-top Les Paul guitar and leather keks on rhythm guitar. Dick, a veteran of the punk/pub rock circuits, joined the band in early 1983, reshuffled the line up . After six weeks of rehearsals, the band's first gig was third on the bill to a line-up of Crass-type anarchist bands at the Sea Lion in Penarth and was met with good reception. Several years of playing everywhere. They recorded two songs for their first release on a 1984 compilation, Hell's Bent On Rockin' from Nervous Records, a well known record label in the psychobilly scene. They released their first album, In Sickness & In Health, on ID Records, which was recorded in less than 24 hours with 90% first takes, with Ray Thompson on bass. The core members at this time remained Mark, Ant and Dick.

The band moved to London in 1986 in an attempt to be closer to regular work. Dick left in 1987 after continuing frustration with the direction the band was taking. Undeterred, the then new double bass player and song writer graeme grant, recruited lex"luther to replace Dick. This was followed with their second full-length Kicked Out of Hell album that reached high positions in the indie charts both here and abroad in 1988. The band began extensively touring Europe and gained both a psychobilly and punk rock following. At this point, the lead singer, Sparky, became addicted to Psychoactive drugs(LSD) and alcohol. At this point Graeme and Lex both left the band at the end of 89, Lex rejoined the band only after a short break."Billy Munster" was to replace graeme on double bass.

In 1990, the band went back to the studio, though without any songs. They were able to write and record an EP for Link Records, The Day the Earth Spat Blood, within the span of three days. The band went on another European tour in 1991, writing and recording their next full-length for [Fury Records], Orgasmic Nightmare. In 1992 The band would tour almost constantly for the next two years. A second album for Fury Records, Tangenital Madness On A Pleasant Side Of Hell, was recorded in 1993, followed by two tours in Japan. The band was infamous for Sparky showing up to Japanese performances naked and doing strange things with a rubber fish...!

During a tour in Germany in spring 1995, the band broke up due to Sparky's deteriorating mental state. However, in 1996, Demented are Go reformed to release the EP'I Wanna See You Bleed! for Hell Razor Records. The band then toured the west coast of the United States U.S. in 1997. They would again be known more for their wild stage show, which included on-stage sex with vacuum cleaner".The band released the full-length Hellucifernation for Crazy Love Records in 1999. A tour went sour after Sparky ended up on jail, having pinched a minor and unable to cough up bail.

After a month in jail and a $100 fine, Sparky returned to England where the Demented Are Go line-up underwent numerous changes. They played two U.S. tours and recorded a live album, Live at the Galaxy, for Crazy Love Records as well as many European festival appearances. However, in the summer of 2003, Sparky was arrested numerous times on the road, resulting in more line-up changes. At the beginning of the 2006 U.S. tour, Sparky was detained by U.S. immigration authorities due to his criminal history, and he was sent back to England. The U.S. tour was cancelled but Demented Are Go still played shows in Europe.

Hello, more music from the 'mother'land, it's been ravaged and plundered by outsiders ever since the Romans decided to exterminate the Carthagen competion (165 BC) a city-state that had florished for 1,000 years and now historians have a hard time finding anything.. that's Roman destructive efficiency for you.. anyway many raiders have followed in their footstep since, and yet Africa hasn't lost it's vibrancy (dare i say testament to the human spirit). Making music is still a collective undertaking, though there are specialists, the west african griots are more then singers/musicians in a way they are history teachers aswell and embed the spirit of the tribe within them... Today, a griot that has stepped out of his continent and took his art into the world, Foday Musa Suso.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

In West Africa, the Griot is a musician, entertainer, historian, myth maker and more. For 800 years this expert musician class have been "walking libraries," responsible for preserving the region's wisdom and lore. Epic songs, genealogies and one of the world's richest instrumental traditions have been passed down through arduous apprenticeships, ensuring that the Jali Kunda (Griot family) endures.

Foday Musa Suso is a Mandingo griot (the griot is the hereditary musician/oral historian of the Mandingo people). He is a virtuoso kora player, drummer, and composer. Suso was born in the Sarre Hamadi Village, Gambia. Initially taught by his father, at the age of eleven Suso was sent away to study under a master kora player, Saikou Suso, after undergoing seven years of rigorous study, at age eighteen he became a full-fledged griot.

Suso then took his kora (a 21-string harp-lute), and traveled through Africa, America and Europe, providing audiences with their first taste of Griot music. From 1975 through 1977 he held the post of Kora Instructor at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana. In 1977, Suso established himself in the United States, founding the Mandingo Griot Society where he taught jazz musicians to play new arrangements of Mandingo music. Their first record featured the late American jazz musician Don Cherry.

In 1984, the organizing committee of the Olympic games approached Herbie Hancock for the composition of the official theme music for the field events. Wanting to evoke the roots of man, Herbie turned to Suso. Their collaboration resulted in the rousing "Junku," and continued with Suso composing for Herbie's next album, "Sound System," and later with the highly acclaimed duet album, "Village Life."

Suso was a featured instrumentalist on the Philip Glass soundtrack for the film Powaqattsi, and collaborated with Glass on the score for the American premiere of Jean Genet's The Screens, which opened at Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater in the fall of 1989. Suso has toured with the Kronos String Quartet and their recordings are part of the Pieces of Africa release.

For Jali Kunda, Foday Musa Suso returns to his native village in Gambia with legendary producer Bill Laswell. They visit Senegal and Guinea-Bissau to encounter their Griots, learn their stories and hear their songs. Back in the United States, Suso and Laswell anticipate the next century of Griot music as Suso performs original works by avant-classical minimalist Philip Glass, saxophone innovator Pharoah Sanders, and muscular funksters Mandingo.

Hello, i'm rather tired currently, so i keep it brief ...enjoy

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Steve Hillage ( 2 August 1951, London, England) is best known as a guitarist. He is associated with the Canterbury scene and has worked in experimental domains since the late 1960s.

Whilst still at school, he joined his first band, a blues rock band called Uriel. In 1969, Hillage began studies at the University of Kent in Canterbury, befriending local bands Caravan and Spirogyra and occasionally jamming with them. Meanwhile he wrote songs and, by late 1970, had accumulated enough material for an album. In early 1971, Hillage formed Khan which released Space Shanty (72) the band split later that year. Hillage promptly joined Kevin Ayers' new live band Decadence, participating in Ayers' 1973 album Bananamour and touring the UK and France for two months. Having in the meantime become a fan of Gong, Hillage stayed in France after the tour to join the band. January 1973 he took part in the sessions for Flying Teapot, the first instalment of the "Radio Gnome" trilogy, and soon after graduated to full-time membership.

Late 75 Hillage departed Gong to start a solo career on the back of the success of his first soloalbum, Fish Rising, recorded while still in Gong and featuring most of his bandmates. His next effort L album was recorded in the United States using musicians from Todd Rundgren's Utopia, and on its release Hillage formed a touring band which toured in late 1976. 1977's Motivation Radio, with its shorter tracks, marked a departure from the long instrumental workouts of previous efforts, but 1978's Green, co-produced by Pink Floyd's Nick Mason, was a return to his earlier work.

These 1970s works ( in collaboration with his longtime girlfriend Miquette Giraudy) blended complex studio production techniques with dreamscape anthems. Culminatiing in the fully ambient Rainbow Dome Musick. During the 1980s, Hillage mainly worked as a record producer, for the likes as Simple Minds, Cock Robin, Murray Head.
Hillage was recruited back to the music scene by Dr. Alex Paterson of the Orb, who spun Hillage's Rainbow Dome Musick at London's Heaven one night while Hillage was there himself. The two became friends, and Paterson encouraged him to begin recording ambient house -- with Hillage's guitar explorations just as prominent in the mix as on his solo work. Hillage teamed up with Giraudy again in the early 1990s to form their own ambient dance act: System 7. They soon became part of the underground dance scene in London and Hillage was also a key figure in getting the Glastonbury Festival to recognise the dance scene and set up the Dance Tent, which he programmed in its first year. As System 7 the duo released 12 albums since 91, often with diverse collaborators from the music/dj scene.

In November 2006, Hillage made a surprise return to the Gong fold when he and Giraudy performed at the Gong Unconvention in Amsterdam.

This album was written by Hillage and long-time recording partner Miquette Giraudy in 1979 for use at the Mind-Body-Spirit festival in London where it was played on a loop in a large dome (the Rainbow Dome of the title) where people could go and relax. They combined recordings of running water, layers of twirling synth sounds, Tibetan bells and (of course) floaty guitar-lines to create 44 minutes of dreamy beatless chill and one of the first ambient LPs. It was well ahead of its time

Hello, today the 10th post of the new format; GoldyRhox, classic pop rock.

Two spots of glitter under his eyes before an appearance on Top of the Pops, the ensuing performance would often be viewed as the official birth of glam rock. This band, after it abbreviated it's dinosaur predator name, became commercially successful and basicly a one man show. This their second album from 71 is their classic , it really banged their gong..In the years that followed the band slided downwards as the singer/guitarist succomed to the rock & roll lifestyle of too much booze, drugs and fast food. Not withstanding the birth of a son, Rolan who's mother Gloria (tainted love) Jones was at the wheel of a Mini and drove the pair into a tree, she survived he didn't. ..another one of those "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die"

Hello, todays band has been up for it for some time now, had a bit of a hard time what to post, i've decided on an early compilation and the breakthrough album, although that's relative..they were very popular in the UK as 'jumping drunk on punk aint half as much fun as bouncing around on psychobilly music. I will post some more of that stuff in weeks to come, meanwhile...

xxxxx

The Cramps celebrate all that is dirty and gaudy with a perverse joy that draws in listeners with its fleshy decadence, primal rockabilly, grease-stained '60s garage rock, vintage monster movies, perverse and glistening sex. They have influenced countless subsequent bands in the garage, punk and rockabilly revival subgenres, and helped create the psychobilly genre, a term coined by The Cramps, although Lux Interior maintained that the term did not describe their own style.

Lux Interior (Erick Lee Purkhiser) and Poison Ivy (hitchiking Kristy Marlana Wallace) met in Sacramento, California in 1972. Shared common artistic interests and devotion to record collecting, had them pair up and decide to form The Cramps. Lux took his stage name from a car ad, and Ivy claimed to have received hers in a dream (initially Poison Ivy Rorschach). In 1973, they moved to Akron, Ohio, and then to New York in 1975, soon entering into CBGB's early punk scene. The lineup in 1976 was Poison Ivy Rorschach, Lux Interior, Bryan Gregory (guitar), and his sister Pam "Ballam" Gregory (drums). In a short period of time, the Cramps changed drummers twice, something that would follow the bands path..the rhythm section (bass, drums) changed ever so often 7 times each in fact over their 33 years as a band.

In June 1978 they gave a landmark free concert for patients at the California State Mental Hospital in Napa, recorded on a Sony Portapak video camera by the San Francisco collective Target Video and later released as Live at Napa State Mental Hospital. They released the two singles again on their 1979 Gravest Hits EP, before Chilton brought them back that year to Memphis to record their first full length album, Songs The Lord Taught Us.

The Cramps relocated to Los Angeles in 1980 and hired guitarist Kid Congo Powers of The Gun Club. While recording their second LP, Psychedelic Jungle, the band and Miles Copeland began to dispute royalties and creative rights. The ensuing court case prevented them from releasing anything until 1983, when they recorded Smell of Female live at New York's Peppermint Lounge; Kid Congo Powers subsequently departed. Their first European tour, after having veen cancelled twice, was a success.

With the release of 1986's A Date With Elvis, the Cramps permanently added a bass guitar to the mix, but had trouble finding a suitable player, so Ivy temporarily filled in as the band's bassist. Fur joined them on the world tour to promote the album. Their popularity in the UK was at its peak (many sell out dates throughout the UK) . It was not until late 86 that the Cramps found a suitable permanent bass player: Candy del Mar, who made her recorded debut on the raw live album "RockinnReelininAucklandNewZealandxxx", which was followed by the studio album Stay Sick in 1990.

The Cramps hit the top 40 singles chart in the UK for the first and only time with "Bikini Girls with Machine Guns"; Ivy posed as such both on the cover of the single and in the promotional video for the song. The Cramps went on to record more albums and singles through the 1990s Look Mom, No Head! (91), Flame Job (94), Big Beat From Badsville (97) for various labels.

In honor of the excess of The Cramps, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has on display a shattered bass drum head that Lux's head went through during a live show. On January 10, 2001, Bryan Gregory died at of complications following a heart attack. He was 47. In 2002, The Cramps released their final studio album, "Fiends of Dope Island" on their own label, Vengeance Records. Two years later followed by a compilation, How to Make a Monster.

On February 4, 2009 at 4:40 AM PST, Lux Interior died at the Glendale Memorial Hospital after suffering an aortic dissection (rupture) which, contrary to initial reports about a pre-existing condition, was "sudden, shocking and unexpected, leaving his partner of 37 years (Poison Ivy) behind.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Although the bulk of the material consists of covers, you can hardly tell (barring an intimacy with any of the originals). Once the Cramps get hold of a song, they always make it their own -- even the more recognizable numbers like "Surfin' Bird," "Lonesome Town," and "Fever." All benefit from Lux Interior's vocal prowess. He's a proto-punk screamer like Screamin' Jay Hawkins or the Sonics' Gerry Roslie on the rockin' numbers, but can caress a ballad like mid-period Elvis when the need arises. None of the songs sound as if they could possibly have been written anytime after the '60s. Alex Chilton produced the first ten tracks, the Cramps the remaining seven.

Most of the songs here are in various rockabilly-derived styles featuring either garage rock fuzz or Duane Eddy twanging guitar from Poison Ivy. Vocalist Lux Interior is in excellent form here, exhibiting a fair bit of variety within his usual 1950s-derived approach. "Kizmiaz" is unique in the band's oeuvre, being a smarmy parody of 1960s hippie feel-good music. This rollicking and energetic platter in particular is the equal of any in their canon.

Hello, more music from the most exploited., however poor or hungry sharing rhythms is universal (even beyond this realm). On the basis of it all is percussion, today some more excellent drumming from Africa (even included a map)..hope you'll take up the offer and enjoy..

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

This set of drumming and percussive instrumentals is surprisingly compelling; It's easy to become transfixed as the waves of rhythm overtake and carries one along. Five different groups perform on this well-paced collection: The El Hadj Ensemble specializes in Ghanaian and Senegalese drumming; Ipelegeng, Matodzi and the Soweto Ensemble represent South Africa and a group called African Works adds a "bush" beat to many tracks. Sometimes these groups perform collaboratively, and the cumulative effect is quite nice. After decades of brisk, somewhat jarring drumming albums, it's nice to hear the recording methods and the presentation softening up a bit, so that the melodic and textural depths come out more clearly... they not only focus on drumming, but do so to the point of exclusion of all vocals and other non-percussion instruments (marimbas are occasionally used, but sparingly). The works are completely stripped down from any full musical context and only the beat itself is left. On rare occasions, a small flute takes the place of the vocal lines, but in general it's left to the drums alone. This works well to highlight the complexity of a number of styles, if the pieces chosen generally have more complexity to them. For those who enjoy rarities, incidentally, it does include a couple of interesting works on a Zulu friction drum and a seldom-heard Venda drum. In the end there's no pop fusion going on here; the drumming is fairly pure, but it's also kind of laid back and pleasant to space out on, with plenty of stylistic variety.

RhoDeo 1103 Earth Search 16

Hello, am watching the big winner at tonights Golden Globes, The Social Network, have to say don't see what the buzz is about. What is interesting is the fact that in the olddays movies like this would be made decades later, not like this still unfolding moneymedrama..increasing novelty speed as predicted by that brilliant philospher, botanist, mathematician and drugs goeroe, Terence McKenna (btw theres lots to see, hear and read on him at Transgloballs)..Anyway he predicted events would occur at increasing speed until it flattened out (Timewave Zero) somewhere around november 0012, as this is rather close to the, at that time unknown to him, Mayan big transition date of the wintersolistice 0012 he was happy to go along with that..He himself had developped the novelty/timewave theory on the basis of the I-ching...hmm some synchronicity of sorts isn't it ? Well enjoy our brave challenger crew getting cornered once again..I'm going back watch mister Sugarmountains triomphs.

Sundaze 1103

Hello, been rather busy this week getting some tv shows in dvd/blue ray quality and in the mkv format which as you might know is 'open source' hence not loved by industry, even less so as it is of superior quality/size ratio . One company has really understood the superior power of open source and that's Google, Sun too dabbles along somewhat to as they became forced to get involved with linux. Meanwhile the general public still believes anything you pay for is better, alas in many cases this is not so, once they wake up many current digital hotshot companies will go the way of the dodo, hence the smart ones are desperately diversivying now credit is still good..We'll see what happens in the decade ahead.
Today's offering are a duo loving it in Mumbai, "Outsourced' anyone? Anyway it brought them together as the Bombay Dub Orchestra, not sure about that dub, i prefer the remix album which probably is more dub but still not overly, oh well it manages to stay within lounge/chill out borders without crossing into muzak which would have been a small disaster as so many talented artists have attributed their skills here.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is central to the Bombay Dub Orchestra project. The people, the colours, the buildings, the smells, the food and life in the heart of the city has been integral to the inspiration behind their work. Both Hughes and Mackay have been traveling to Mumbai since the early 90's and first worked together there in 1998. In the late 1990s, the UK-based team of composer/arranger/pianist Andrew T. Mackay (Roxy Music) and producer Garry Hughes (Art of Noise, Sly & Robbie, and Pink Floyd Orchestral Project) traveled to India to record Bombay's top session players for a project by Spellbound, a duo from India based in London. "I produced and Andrew arranged, Hughes recalls. "It was a fantastic experience recording these guys, and on the plane coming home we thought how great it would be to make an orchestral chill-out record with these players. In 2005, the duo returned to Bombay to spend their days recording a 28-piece string section (violins, violas and cellos) and their nights recording expert players of classical Indian instruments (bansuri, sarangi, tabla and sitar) and traditional Indian vocalists. Mackay elaborates, "We have a great rapport with the musicians and technicians in Mumbai and have built strong relationships over the last ten years." Mackay adds, "The soloists are amazing and there is a great selection of musicians, some veterans of the industry who have played on the biggest film scores and records in the last thirty years.

On this album the duo worked with a great number of instrumentalists, including a 28-piece Indian orchestra (located in Bombay of course), and numerous solo artists and vocalists throughout India and England. As the album progresses, the soft beats and varied percussion dissolve into increasingly atmospheric and sparse orchestrations. However, that's not to say the whole thing isn't sublimely relaxing. Every song delivers (in different measure) epic arrangements of sweeping strings, Indian vocals and instrumental solo's involving everything from sarangi and sitar to cello, piano and violin.

Bombay Dub Orchestra is the "orchestra chill-out record constructed from these recordings. It honors the essential contemplative nature of its source material—Indian classical music. Offering far greater parts improvised Indian melodies than dub, mixed with a fair amount of Western classical string arrangements, Bombay Dub Orchestra's dub style shares more in common with the likes of Thievery Corporation than either the twisted genius of Mad Professor or strong reggae vibes of Lee Perry, as the dub focus is placed squarely on smooth, deep, dubby bass lines.

Since the release of their self-titled debut, the name Bombay Dub Orchestra has built quite a reputation. From main-stage performances at the UK's Big Chill Festival and Djing across the globe, scoring feature films to remixing such world-renowned artists as Bob Marley, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Bebel Gilberto, their 2009 sophomore album, 3 Cities was well recieved too.

The main man of this band has been dead for almost 40 years (or is he), poetically inclined as he was the name of the band was derived of a book by Thomas Huxley who had a reputation for looking beyond our normal senses with the aid of drugs, hence the title "The Doors of Perception" . After a flying start this their sixth album would be their last, after which the band soldiered on without it's charismatic singer, who left us with some very memorable hits here..

Hello, obviously it aint always easy on what to post, yes after 4,5 years there's still plenty but considering 9 out of 50 Rhotation-Aetix were culled it shows some out there are desperate to keep those remasterings on sale. Afterall as a regular fan, after the vinyl and the cd now you are expected to pay once again, sometimes 'enhanced' with some leftovers..yippiee ! It's interesting to see also how many 80's independent labels have been bought up for next to nothing by the big and dirty boys, specially EMI has been active there..fact that they themselves have been basicly bankrupt for two years only motivates them to bully the little guy. Anyone got a billion dollars in their piggybank should consider buying them and revolutinze the socalled industry and proclaim "we are happy our artists get the attention of downloaders, we will no longer produce hard copies but sell directly thru our download servers diverse compression formats and uncompressed work at various prices max 6 dollars for a full album with full artwork and printfiles"... Hey but that's just me talking what do i know of overhead..hmm

Bauhaus formed in 1978 in Northampton, England. Guitarist/vocalist Daniel Ash, bassist/vocalist David J (born David Jay Haskins), and drummer Kevin Haskins had played together as a trio called the Craze before forming Bauhaus with vocalist Peter Murphy. Originally, the band was called Bauhaus 1919 after the German art movement; by 1979, they had dropped the 1919 from their name.

In August of 1979, the group released their debut single, "Bela Lugosi's Dead," on the independent record label Small Wonder Records. Although it did not make the pop charts, it became the de facto goth rock anthem, staying in the U.K. independent charts for years. Three months later, the group signed with Beggars Banquet's subsidiary label, 4AD. The group's second single, "Dark Entries," was released in January 1980. Following their first European tour, Bauhaus released their third single, "Terror Couple Kill Colonel," in the summer of that year, which became a hit on the indie charts.

After touring America for the first time in September, the group released a version of T. Rex's "Telegram Sam." In October, they released their debut album, In the Flat Field, which reached number one on the independent charts In October 81.
Few debut albums ever arrived so nearly perfectly formed; that In the Flat Field practically single-handedly invented what remains for many as the stereotype of goth music -- wracked, at times spindly vocals about despair and desolation of many kinds, sung over mysterious and moody music -- demonstrates the sui generis power of both the band and its work. This said, perhaps the best thing about the album isn't what it's supposed to sound like, but what it actually does -- an awesomely powerful, glam-inspired rock band firing on all fours, capable of restraint and complete overdrive both, fronted by a charismatic, storming frontman. In the Flat Field propelled Bauhaus' career with a near-perfect bang.

They released their second album, Mask, which revealed a more ambitious musical direction; the new direction, which featured elements of metal and electronic sonic textures, made the music more accessible without abandoning the dark, foreboding core of their music. Mask was a commercial success. Fall 82, the group had a hit with their version of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust." The success of the single propelled their third album, The Sky's Gone Out on the album charts.

Murphy contracted pneumonia at the beginning of 1983, which prevented him from participating in the recording sessions for Bauhaus' fourth album, Burning From the Inside. Consequently, the record featured substantial contributions from Ash and J, who both pursued more personal and atmospheric directions. After Murphy recovered, the band toured Japan and then returned to the U.K. to promote the summer release of Burning From the Inside. The album was another hit, yet in July, Bauhaus split up.

After Bauhaus' breakup, Murphy formed Dali's Car with Japan's Mick Karn and then pursued a solo career. Ash continued with Tones on Tail, a project he began in 1981; Kevin Haskins also joined the band after Bauhaus' split. J made some solo records and joined the Jazz Butcher briefly. Ash, Haskins, and J formed Love and Rockets in 1985 after a proposed Bauhaus reunion fell apart because Peter Murphy wasn't interested in the project. More than a decade later, however, with the careers of both Love and Rockets and Peter Murphy at a standstill, Bauhaus re-formed for several live dates in Los Angeles, mounting a full-blown tour in 1998; the two-disc Gotham documented the reunited group's performance at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.

Bauhaus reunited again in 2005, Bauhaus embarked on a full tour beginning in North America and Mexico in the Autumn of 2005 and ending in Europe in February 2006. In May 2006 the band toured with Nine Inch Nails on the summer leg of their tour. ‘Go Away White’ was recorded in 18 days at Zircon Skye in Ojai, with singer Peter Murphy, bassist David J, guitarist Daniel Ash, and drummer Kevin Haskins playing together as a band in one room, taking first takes as final cuts. So, a new record but apparently a final one, the band having decided to release it as a posthumous swan song....no news since.

Hello, dear visitors, have some excellent drumming for you..hope you'll take up the offer and enjoy..

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

With his second album "Power To The Soul" Gordon Odametey summarizes his experience as a drummer and presents an artistically well balanced result of 20 years of drumming. The 'classical' use of traditional patterns of rhythm is accentuated, however, the musician' s preference for free drumming is easily to be recognized. Gordon Odametey has been living in Berlin for 15 years. He comes from a Ghanian family of musicians and healers and combines experiences made in the diaspora with those of the origins of drumming. In addition to the aesthaetic effect of sounds "Power To The Soul" deals with the power inherent in music: the freeing of emotions and being aware of them. I have to say that the title track - violent, visceral and explosive - is one of the most thrilling demonstrations of percussion I've heard. And so it proceeds - it's rare for a drumming album to approach the spiritual, and anyone who's ever tried to assemble a band knows the difficulty of finding a drummer who also understands music. But this prodigious Ghanaian provides a glowing lesson of what can be achieved by holdness, intuition and good hands. Gordon Odametey's music trancends an overwhelming joy of life.

Hello, after a quiet sunday, its not always easy to get the words out, commenting on all the casual violence that's been telivized is useless as it seems the fairytale endings keeps attracting viewers, real life it ain't. That said who's to say reality throws us a curbbal or two, and im not talking about those birds dropping out of the sky..i was amazed earlier to read that the extremely accidental nine year old victim of that nutcase spraying his bullits into the small crowd was born on 9 11 and had been in a book with 50 other kids born that day published as a message of hope... go figure what a dark shadow that attack casts...hmm

Time for the Challenger crew that woke up to find they had been largely surpassed by their children as they themselves had been on ice as it where for 16 years...

Sundaze 1102

Hello, now the festive season is behind us, we've been rudely awakened today by another senseless shooting by a mental case with a gun. Hmm what i hear the targeted congres woman is a wonderful caring person and looks to survive the attack, 6 bystanders were not so lucky. Hopefully some good will come from it, the US sure needs common sense to return.
I had to check my back ups to find to my surprise i never posted anything by todays band. I know i had my eye on them but the band is difficult to pigeonhole, and they don't exactly fit the Sundaze label either. But they deserve the attention, at the time they rose from obscurity in the mideighties in the wake of the 4 AD label rise to glory and subsequently raising eachothers profile. Their big sound has been recently remastered by Perry for CD and SACD, these rips won't disappoint you either.

Dead Can Dance (sometimes referred to as DCD) were an ambient, world music band which formed in Melbourne, Australia, in August 1981. Its mainstays were Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry. The band relocated to London in May 1982 and disbanded in 1998, but reunited temporarily for a world tour in 2005. Their 1996 album Spiritchaser reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top World Music Albums Chart. Australian music historian Ian McFarlane described Dead Can Dance as having an ambient style of world music that "constructed soundscapes of mesmerising grandeur and solemn beauty... with African polyrhythms, Gaelic folk, Gregorian chants, Middle Eastern mantras and art-rock".

Dead Can Dance formed in Melbourne, Australia, in August 1981 with Paul Erikson on bass guitar, Lisa Gerrard (ex-Microfilm) on vocals, Simon Monroe (Marching Girls) on drums and Brendan Perry on vocals and guitar. Gerrard and Perry were also a domestic couple and they left Erikson and Monroe in Australia when they moved to London in May 1982, where they signed with alternative rock label 4AD Records. With the duo, the initial United Kingdom line-up were James Pinker, Scott Rodger and Peter Ulrich. The group's debut album, Dead Can Dance, which appeared in February 1984, was produced by the band. The artwork, which depicts a ritual mask from New Guinea, "provide[s] a visual reinterpretation of the meaning of the name Dead Can Dance". The album "featured drum-driven, ambient guitar music with chanting, singing and howling".They followed with a four-track extended play, Garden of the Arcane Delights in August.which saw them plunging into a wider range of music and style, in fact it set them on their musical style.

For their second album, Spleen and Ideal, the group comprised the core duo of Gerrard and Perry with cello, trombones and tympani added in by session musicians. It appeared in November 1985 and was co-produced by the duo with John A. Rivers Raggett describes it as "a consciously medieval European sound ... like it was recorded in an immense cathedral". The group built a following in Europe, and this album reached No. 2 on the UK indie charts. By 1989, Gerrard and Perry had separated domestically – Gerrard returned to Australia and Perry moved to Ireland – but they still wrote, recorded and performed together as Dead Can Dance.

For the next two years, Dead Can Dance were relatively quiet, releasing only two new songs in 1986, both which appeared on the 4AD compilation Lonely Is an Eyesore. Within the Realm of a Dying Sun, the group's third album, appeared in 1986. In 1988, the band released their fourth album, The Serpent's Egg, and wrote the score for the Agustin Villarongas film El Nino de la Luna, which also featured Lisa Gerrard in her acting debut. Aion, Dead Can Dance's fifth album, was released in 1990. Also in 1990, the group toured America for the first time, earning rave reviews. The following year, the group was involved in various festivals and theatrical productions. In 1991, the compilation A Passage in Time was released on Rykodisc, making it the first American release of Dead Can Dance music. Early in 1993, the group provided the score to Baraka and contributed songs to Zazou's Sahara Blue.

Their sixth studio album, Into the Labyrinth, was issued in September 1993 and dispensed with guest musicians entirely; it sold 500,000 copies worldwide and appeared on the Billboard 200. It was a cult success throughout the U.S. and Europe, making them 4AD's highest selling act. They followed with a world tour in 1994 and recorded a live performance in California which was released as Toward the Within, with video versions on Laserdisc and VHS (later on DVD). Many unofficial bootlegs of concerts spanning their career exist, containing several rare songs that were only performed live. Toward the Within is the duo's only official live album. Gerrard released her debut solo recording, The Mirror Pool, and recombined with Perry for the Dead Can Dance studio album, Spiritchaser, in 1996.The album also charted on Billboard 200 and reached No. 1 on the Top World Music Albums Chart.

In 1998, Dead Can Dance planned a follow-up to Spiritchaser, but the band separated before it was realised. One song from the recording sessions, "The Lotus Eaters", was eventually released on the box set Dead Can Dance (1981-1998) and on the 2-disc compilation Wake (2003). Gerrard teamed with Pieter Bourke (Snog, Soma) to issue Duality in April 1998. Perry released Eye of the Hunter in October 1999. DCD reunited in 2005 and released limited-edition recordings of 13 shows from its European tour, and 8 recordings from the subsequent North American tour, as well as a compilation titled Selections from Europe 2005. These concerts were recorded and released on The Show record label.

On 28 March 2010, in an interview for Bulgaria’s Katehizis.com online music magazine, Perry revealed the possibility of a future Dead Can Dance reunion: "Yes, I’ve been talking about it with Lisa [Gerrard]. Maybe in the end of next year we’ll start work again. We’ve been talking about doing something like taking a small chamber orchestra – 10 or 15 people – and tour with them. And we have to write songs. We have to write new material – totally new – so the whole, entire set will be a new album. Then we’ll go into the studio after the tour, record, produce and release a record as well.

Early punk backgrounds and the like behind them, Perry and Gerrard created a striking, dour landmark in early-'80s atmospherics on their first, self-titled effort. Bearing much more resemblance to the similarly gripping, dark early work of bands like the Cocteau Twins and the Cure than to the later fusions of music that would come to characterize the duo's sound, Dead Can Dance is as goth as it gets in many places. However by the time they recorded the Arcane Delights EP (later that year) crystalization of what would become 'their sound' was in full gear and to come to full bloom one year later on the Speen and Ideal album.

With this amazing album, DCD fully took the plunge into the heady mix of musical traditions that first appeared on the previous Arcane Delights EP and would come to define its sound and style for the remainder of its career. Calling it "haunting" and "atmospheric" barely scratches even the initial surface of the album's power. The common identification of the duo with a consciously medieval European sound starts here considing the mystic titles of songs, references to Latin, choirs, and other touches that make the album sound like it was recorded in an immense cathedral. The overall feeling is of an ancient religious service suddenly brought to life in a truly modern way, with stunning results.

RhoDeo 1101 Goldy Rhox 8

Hello, today the 8th post of the new format; GoldyRhox, classic pop rock.

Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip and for the younger visitors, for certain something to confront your parents with (as loud as possible)..don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accomodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.

Plenty of chance to know what's coming up today, the breakthrough album in Europe for this band, in the US they had to wait till they had a big breakfast there..goes to show US media are missing the ball regularly..this album has it all ..pathos and drama and something most teenagers could relate to..school.. and the mock of being called a dreamer when you didnt pay attention to the mores of western society..highly regarded in ancient times in our day and age dreamers are humiliated.. a crime of the century indeed.

Hello, after a week of partying there's still no rest for the wicked..... i thought i start the new year with some eighties power pop, one highly succesful band the other fell thru the cracks, undeservedly but then the music business has never been a fair game..not even in Mozarts days.. In the end it's what the artist himself derives from his efforts, New Musik folded after three albums, maybe they took themselves too seriously, a pity they should have held out longer..

The B-52's originated as a New Wave rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, United States, in 1976. The band's name comes from a particular beehive hairdo resembling the nose cone of the airplane of the same name. During their early years, wigs of that style were often worn by the band's female singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson. Wilson, Pierson, drummer Keith Strickland, guitarist Ricky Wilson (Cindy's older brother) and vocalist Fred Schneider formed the group in an spontanous jam session. The band's quirky take on the New Wave sound of their era was a combination of dance and surf music set apart by the unusual guitar tunings used by Ricky Wilson. Their costume thrift-store chic set them apart as well.

Their first single, "Rock Lobster", recorded for DB Records in 1978, was an underground success that led to the B-52's performing at CBGB's and Max's Kansas City in New York City. "52 Girls" was the B-side. Their debut album, B-52's , contained re-recorded versions of "Rock Lobster" and "52 Girls", along with six more originals and a remake of Petula Clark's classic "Downtown". The debut album stood out as an original, unabashed kitsch mavens the band celebrated all the silliest aspects of pre-Beatles pop culture -- bad hairdos, sci-fi nightmares, dance crazes, pastels, and anything else that sprung into their minds -- to a skewed fusion of pop, surf, avant-garde, amateurish punk, and white funk.

The following year, they issued Wild Planet, which reached the Top 20 on the U.S. album charts; Party Mix!, an EP's worth of reworked material from the band's first two proper outings, appeared in 1981. Released in 1982, Mesopotamia arose out of a series of aborted sessions with producer David Byrne which saw the B-52's largely abandon their trademark sense of humor, a situation rectified by the next year's Whammy!, a move into electronic territory. After a Schneider solo LP, 1984's Fred Schneider & the Shake Society, the group returned to the studio to record 1986's Bouncing Off the Satellites. On October 12, 1985, however, Ricky Wilson died; though originally his death was attributed to natural causes, it was later revealed that he had succumbed to AIDS. In light of Wilson's death, the group found it impossible to promote the new album, and they spent the next several years in seclusion

In 1989, the B-52's finally returned with Cosmic Thing, their most commercially successful effort to date. Produced by Don Was and Nile Rodgers, the album launched several hit singles, including the party smash "Love Shack," "Roam," and "Deadbeat Club." In 1990, Cindy Wilson retired from active duty, leaving the remaining trio to soldier on for 1992's Good Stuff. A year later, dubbed the BC-52's, they performed the theme song for Steven Spielberg's live-action feature The Flintstones. Wilson returned to the group for a tour supporting the release of 1998's hits collection Time Capsule. Four years later the double-disc Nude on the Moon compilation would dive deeper into their catalog by featuring rare tracks, live recordings, and remixes along with the hits.

Funplex, the band's first original album in sixteen years (since 1992's Good Stuff), was released on March 25, 2008 by Astralwerks. The album is a slick, synthesizer-driven effort produced by Steve Osborne, who was asked to work on the album based on his work with New Order on the album Get Ready. The album debuted at #11 on the Billboard charts in the U.S., immediately making it the second-highest charting B-52's album ever. The band toured in support of the album as well as making television appearances on talk shows.

New Musik were one of the first British groups to come out with a sound that successfully combined synths and "real" instruments. That said, their near-total lack of commercial acceptance is one of the great mysteries of early-'80s pop. Their music, rooted in classic pop songwriting but with a forward-looking interest in shiny electronics, is both instantly accessible and coolly forbidding. This dichotomy is most clearly expressed in the split between group leader Tony Mansfield's melodies, which are hummable, welcoming, and often quite bouncy, and his alienated lyrics.

New Musik formed in 1977, growing out of a casual band of south London school friends who jammed together under the name End of the World; singer and guitarist Mansfield, keyboardist Nick Straker, and bassist Tony Hibbert drafted drummer Phil Towner, who had played on the Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star." Rather than hotly pursue a record deal, the newly christened New Musik wisely chose to hone their craft first. Working during down times at a south London studio where Mansfield was informally employed as a session musician and apprentice engineer, the foursome recorded most of what would become their first two albums before approaching the British label GTO Records with the finished master tapes. However, before GTO released the first New Musik single, "Straight Lines," in August 1979, Straker had left for a fusion-oriented solocareer. He was replaced by Clive Gates.

This new lineup completed New Musik's debut album, From A to B, released in April of 1980. Several Singles were taken from it with "Living By Numbers" scoring the best. Early 81 saw the release of from A to B part two Anywhere, though Mansfield 's production skills obviously had grown, the album unexpectedly didn't do that well. My take on that, looking at the gatefold sleeve..they look like a progband, which they certainly weren't. With hindsight it could be said they lacked a niche, and the broadsky countries, where their music should have done well, didn't pick them up.

After Anywhere's disappointing commercial performance in the U.K., New Musik went through a period of turmoil. Hibbert and Towner both left the band, leaving Mansfield and Gates to record the third and final New Musik album as a duo with a hired drummer. Unlike From A to B and Anywhere, which blended synthesizers with acoustic guitars, live percussion, and other classic pop elements, Warp is almost entirely electronic. One of the first albums to be recorded primarily with digital samplers and emulators, Warp sounds a bit more dated than the first two New Musik albums, but the songs, among the most lyrically pessimistic of the band's career, are quite strong. New Musik split after this album, as Mansfield's sideline career as a producer started taking more of his time. Through the first half of the '80s, Mansfield produced hit singles for Naked Eyes, Mari Wilson, the B-52s, After the Fire, and others.
