Hello,

In 1998, Youth (Martin Glover) decided to set up, LSD - Liquid Sound Design as Dragonfly's sister label, specialising in chilled out soundscapes, sonic beats and mellow grooves. LSD was as natural progression for Dragonfly keen to create an outlet for more experimental and down-tempo music as well as satisfying the demand for the post club chill out sounds. Since 2007 the name has changed to "Liquid Sound" and is now managed by Pathaan. Today 3 outfits from Youth's LSD stable.... N'joy

Martin Glover, also known as Youth or Orion, (born 27 December 1960 in Farnworth, Lancashire) is a record producer and a founder member and bassist of Killing Joke.

Glover originally named himself Pig Youth after the reggae chanter Big Youth, who was popular with late 1970s London punk bands. At age 15 he was in a punk band named The Rage, which toured with The Adverts. Later he joined 4" Be 2" - a band formed by John Lydon's brother Jimmy Lydon - and recorded the "One of the Lads" single with them.

Glover is most famous for being the bass player in Killing Joke. He left the band in 1982, together with Ben Watkins he released 2 albums, The Empty Quarter and Delerium, soon after he founded his own commercially orientated dub funk band Brilliant, which recorded one album in 1986 before later disbanding.

In 1989, Youth and Alex Paterson started the WAU! Mr. Modo label. Their early releases of a selection of industrial techno dubs and heavy sound system dubs from artists such as Napthali, Manasseh, Bim Sherman and Jah Warrior are long deleted and fetch high sums in private sales.

Youth's connections with dub continued in the mid-1990s when he was asked by Adrian Sherwood to remix some of Bim Sherman's tracks for a reworking of the Miracle album. He also recently appeared on a Ted Parsons/NIC dub album, contributing a remix which opens with a sample from Glen Brown's "Version '78", a track originally released on the South East label.

In the early nineties, Glover formed techno and house music duo Blue Pearl together with American singer Durga McBroom. They scored a handful of hit singles including their blue vinyl debut "Naked In The Rain", which reached #4 in the UK Singles Chart and was also a #5 dance hit in the U.S. in 1990.

Glover is credited with founding the first psychedelic trance record label, Dragonfly Records, as well as the Liquid Sound Design and Kamaflage Records labels. He is well known on the psychedelic trance scene, collaborating with Simon Posford and Saul Davies as Celtic Cross, with Greg Hunter and Simon Posford as Dub Trees, and on the project Zodiac Youth. He has performed both full-on trance as well as chill-out DJ sets at several Return to the Source parties, and released the Ambient Meditations 3 mix album on their label in 2000. His Butterfly Studios were also home of the Return to the Source offices circa 1999-2002.

Glover is a member of the band Transmission, together with Simon Tong of The Verve, Paul Ferguson of Killing Joke and Tim Bran of Dreadzone. He also played guitar on several tracks on the 2007 Client album "Heartland."

In mid-2010, Glover teamed up with Alex Paterson (The Orb) to compile a retrospective compilation album of tracks from the WAU! Mr Modo label. The album titled "Impossible Oddities" was released on CD and double vinyl on 25 October 2010 via Year Zero records.

On 27 October 2012, during the International Festival of Music Producers and Sound Designers SOUNDEDIT, Glover was awarded The Man with the Golden Ear Award

Orchid-Star was put together by Pete Ardron at the start of 2005, initially as a vehicle to perform music he had written for DJ sets, mostly for chill-out rooms. The sound is lush and colourful with a strong world music influence - Indian, Arabic, Celtic, African and more - fused with everything from psychedelic chill and dub to drum & bass and funk. Part electronic, part live - vocalists - Myo and Samanta Ray, guitar & bass - Pierre Luigi, electric fiddle - Kait Farbon, full-size marimba - Becky Dell, percussionists - Jon Bongly and Becky keyboards - Pete, dancers Diane Everitt and SandRa and occasionally more.

Orchid-Star have featured an increasing list of guest performers from here and abroad, vocalists, instrumentalists, dancers and visual artists, giving a real variety to their shows, performing with anything from 3-10 people on stage. Both core members and guests have diverse musical roots, several with classical training and members with backgrounds in rock, reggae, soul, funk, jazz, world and other fields, having played with people as varied as Frank Sinatra(!), Jimi Hendrix(!), Tim Finn of Crowded House, True Life Confessions, Basement Jaxx, Soul2Soul, Hallucinogen and Stomp. Pete's last major project before this was Glow, well known on the global-dance/world-music scene in the late 90s and with whom several other Orchid-Star members also served time.

By the summer of 2005, with a regular core established, the band had started to take on its own sound, identity and direction, moving away from the initial plan and concentrating more on the more up-tempo dancy tracks - a trend reflected in the first new tracks to be written specifically for the Orchid-Star. Highlights of the first year included the main stages at Kingston Green Fair, the London Green Lifestyles Show and Big Green Gathering and the main headline slot on the largest of Glastonbury Festival's fringe stages, Croissant Neuf where the Orchid-Star and Pete also received about 3 hours of airplay on the festival's radio station, Radio Avalon. The Orchid-Star are as at home in a club environment as on a festival stage and have played at the Synergy Project, Planet Angel, Acid Monkey, and Edensounds amongst others.

2006 saw the band concentrate mostly on finishing off their first album "Birth", in Pete's opinion the best thing he has ever produced - a collection of tracks originally written for sets for Planet Angel, ID Spiral, Bingly Bongly and Liquid Connective While people who have seen the Orchid-Star live will be familiar with most of the tunes on "Birth" they may be surprised to find that, whilst this is still a very rhythmic, big, lush sounding album, it is predominantly down-tempo. This is a legacy of the chill-out roots of this project - the second album, already half-written, promises to a much more up-tempo affair.

2007 saw Orchid-Star back out live more including performances at Sunrise, Antiworld, Glade, Bowl and Waveform festivals, and clubs like Planet Angel and Synergy with sets ranging from their first full-on dance set to some special performances of 'Birth' in it's entirety. The band saw 2008 in in style with 2 gigs in the first 12 hours and the long awaited official release of their first album 'Birth' on Liquid Sound Records (1st Feb) including a 2nd CD - rebirth with the entire album remixed by Youth, Tripswitch, Kuba, Subsonar and Pete. Their first (9-mix) single 'Passion' was released in October on Archangel Recordings. 2009 has again been a quiet year live with all the bands energy going towards finishing off the follow-up to Birth

Orchid-Star's debut, “Birth”, released on Liquid Sound in 2008 along with ‘reBirth’ - remixes by Youth, Tripswitch, Kuba, Subsonar and band leader Pete Ardron is regarded by many as a psychedelic chill classic. Its follow-up “Faster” retains all the trademarks of the first but is a significant progression. It still takes the listener to exotic, mysterious places but this time the live element, both instrumentally and vocally, and the personalities of those involved, are altogether more obvious. Living up to its name it is as much a treat to dance to as to listen - a joyful and passionate celebration of life and spirit.
Psychedelic world-fusion - Indian, Irish, African, Latin, Middle Eastern, Balkan Gypsy – driven by a mix of DnB, trance, progressive, funk, dub, ska with just the occasional downtempo groove, wrapped in a rich and vibrant orchestral-like production. Atmospheric and visually charged throughout, it's a seductive piece of work, which grows on you with each listen.

Brother Culture is an MC based in Brixton, London. Simon Fajemisin (half Nigerian, half Irish) started his career around 1982 for Jah Revelation Muzik sound system. As part of the Twelve Tribes of Israel Rasta brotherhood, Brother Culture toured in the USA, Jamaica, Caribbean and Canada throughout the 80’s. In the early 90's, he started to MC at London’s Dub Club, in which he made new associations with active UK dub/roots producers such as Adrian Sherwood and Manasseh.

In the mid-90's, the UK dub/roots scene evolved in new sub-genres of music such as drums & bass. Brother Culture proved to his fans that he was able to adapt his unique style to the new emerging scenes and began to collaborate with labels such as Liquid Sound Design. Since 2000, he continues to travel the world as an established MC artist spreading out the positive message of Jah music. He also continues to record new productions for many producers and bands such as The Prodigy (« Thunder » from the album « Invaders Must Die »), Mungos Hifi, Hammerbass, Roots Garden Label, Dubmatix or Kinyama Sounds.

Isis is a 12 tracks set produced by Youth from Dragonfly and famous UK based producer Nick Manasseh. A UK roots album including several big tunes as Darker Side Of Town, previously released as 7’’ on Roots Garden Records two years ago. It’s basically a kind of psychedelic roots dub album with vocals. And I experimented in not writing songs with verses and choruses like I normally do. It’s more like my voice as an instrument -
