RhoDeo 1103 Earth Search 16

Hello, am watching the big winner at tonights Golden Globes, The Social Network, have to say don't see what the buzz is about. What is interesting is the fact that in the olddays movies like this would be made decades later, not like this still unfolding moneymedrama..increasing novelty speed as predicted by that brilliant philospher, botanist, mathematician and drugs goeroe, Terence McKenna (btw theres lots to see, hear and read on him at Transgloballs)..Anyway he predicted events would occur at increasing speed until it flattened out (Timewave Zero) somewhere around november 0012, as this is rather close to the, at that time unknown to him, Mayan big transition date of the wintersolistice 0012 he was happy to go along with that..He himself had developped the novelty/timewave theory on the basis of the I-ching...hmm some synchronicity of sorts isn't it ? Well enjoy our brave challenger crew getting cornered once again..I'm going back watch mister Sugarmountains triomphs.

The Setting

Some years before the story opens, the huge Earth starship Challenger, on a mission to find Earth-like planets for colonization, encountered a meteoroid shower that killed all of the adult crew and seriously damaged the ship. The only human survivors were four babies - two boys, Telson and Darv, and two girls, Sharna and Astra. The four have been raised from childhood by androids and tutored by two disembodied voices called Angel One and Angel Two.

At the end of Earthsearch, the crew of the starship Challenger settled on the Paradise planet, having never seen their original home planet that they called Earth. They left the Challenger's control computers, Angel One and Angel Two, in charge of the ship to continue the search for Earth. Four years later, the crew have settled into their life on Paradise, despite many hardships they are suffering. Then suddenly, one of their children is killed by a 'monster' that appeared from the sea.

It transpires that this 'monster' is actually an android from the Challenger, which has returned. When the sea level begins to rise, the crew are suspicious of the Angels. They notice a large amount of radiation coming from the southern horizon, and they fly to Antarctica in their shuttlecraft. There they find hundreds of towers embedded in the ice. The Angels are using terraforming equipment from the Challenger to melt the ice and thus raise the sea level in an attempt to get the crew to rejoin them on the ship. The crew are adamant that they will not leave Paradise. The flood gets worse and worse, and will clearly soon submerge all the land. They load breeding pairs of animals into the shuttle cargo bay, and when the water level gets high enough, the shuttle floats. The crew are surviving, barely, and have beaten the Angels for the time being. However, their situation deteriorates to the point where they have no more water to drink, so they eventually surrender to the Angels. First, however, they demand that the flood is reversed, so they can release the animals. Then they fly their shuttle up to the Challenger. The crew are gassed by an android, and they become unconscious, to wake up again with a big surprise awaiting them.. When they come round, they discover that they have been in suspended animation for sixteen years. But the children, who were very young when they came on board, have been awake the whole time, and are now about twenty years old. Telson and Sharna's son, Bran, is now the commander. The Challenger crew have land on an artificial sun called "Solaria D", controlled by a computer who appears to be friendly. From the artificial to the real deal, that is, what's left of it exponentially increases Challengers troubles even the The 'Guardian Angels' cannot change its course and the crew are also powerless.

Hello, been rather busy this week getting some tv shows in dvd/blue ray quality and in the mkv format which as you might know is 'open source' hence not loved by industry, even less so as it is of superior quality/size ratio . One company has really understood the superior power of open source and that's Google, Sun too dabbles along somewhat to as they became forced to get involved with linux. Meanwhile the general public still believes anything you pay for is better, alas in many cases this is not so, once they wake up many current digital hotshot companies will go the way of the dodo, hence the smart ones are desperately diversivying now credit is still good..We'll see what happens in the decade ahead.
Today's offering are a duo loving it in Mumbai, "Outsourced' anyone? Anyway it brought them together as the Bombay Dub Orchestra, not sure about that dub, i prefer the remix album which probably is more dub but still not overly, oh well it manages to stay within lounge/chill out borders without crossing into muzak which would have been a small disaster as so many talented artists have attributed their skills here.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Mumbai (formerly Bombay) is central to the Bombay Dub Orchestra project. The people, the colours, the buildings, the smells, the food and life in the heart of the city has been integral to the inspiration behind their work. Both Hughes and Mackay have been traveling to Mumbai since the early 90's and first worked together there in 1998. In the late 1990s, the UK-based team of composer/arranger/pianist Andrew T. Mackay (Roxy Music) and producer Garry Hughes (Art of Noise, Sly & Robbie, and Pink Floyd Orchestral Project) traveled to India to record Bombay's top session players for a project by Spellbound, a duo from India based in London. "I produced and Andrew arranged, Hughes recalls. "It was a fantastic experience recording these guys, and on the plane coming home we thought how great it would be to make an orchestral chill-out record with these players. In 2005, the duo returned to Bombay to spend their days recording a 28-piece string section (violins, violas and cellos) and their nights recording expert players of classical Indian instruments (bansuri, sarangi, tabla and sitar) and traditional Indian vocalists. Mackay elaborates, "We have a great rapport with the musicians and technicians in Mumbai and have built strong relationships over the last ten years." Mackay adds, "The soloists are amazing and there is a great selection of musicians, some veterans of the industry who have played on the biggest film scores and records in the last thirty years.

On this album the duo worked with a great number of instrumentalists, including a 28-piece Indian orchestra (located in Bombay of course), and numerous solo artists and vocalists throughout India and England. As the album progresses, the soft beats and varied percussion dissolve into increasingly atmospheric and sparse orchestrations. However, that's not to say the whole thing isn't sublimely relaxing. Every song delivers (in different measure) epic arrangements of sweeping strings, Indian vocals and instrumental solo's involving everything from sarangi and sitar to cello, piano and violin.

Bombay Dub Orchestra is the "orchestra chill-out record constructed from these recordings. It honors the essential contemplative nature of its source material—Indian classical music. Offering far greater parts improvised Indian melodies than dub, mixed with a fair amount of Western classical string arrangements, Bombay Dub Orchestra's dub style shares more in common with the likes of Thievery Corporation than either the twisted genius of Mad Professor or strong reggae vibes of Lee Perry, as the dub focus is placed squarely on smooth, deep, dubby bass lines.

Since the release of their self-titled debut, the name Bombay Dub Orchestra has built quite a reputation. From main-stage performances at the UK's Big Chill Festival and Djing across the globe, scoring feature films to remixing such world-renowned artists as Bob Marley, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and Bebel Gilberto, their 2009 sophomore album, 3 Cities was well recieved too.

Hello, today the 9th post of the new format; GoldyRhox, classic pop rock. Most of the albums i 'll post made many millions for the music industry and a lot of what i intend to post still gets repackaged and remastered decades later, squeezing the last drop of profit out of bands that for the most part have ceased to exist long ago, although sometimes they get lured out of the mothballs to do a big bucks gig or tour.

Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accomodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.

The main man of this band has been dead for almost 40 years (or is he), poetically inclined as he was the name of the band was derived of a book by Thomas Huxley who had a reputation for looking beyond our normal senses with the aid of drugs, hence the title "The Doors of Perception" . After a flying start this their sixth album would be their last, after which the band soldiered on without it's charismatic singer, who left us with some very memorable hits here..

Hello, obviously it aint always easy on what to post, yes after 4,5 years there's still plenty but considering 9 out of 50 Rhotation-Aetix were culled it shows some out there are desperate to keep those remasterings on sale. Afterall as a regular fan, after the vinyl and the cd now you are expected to pay once again, sometimes 'enhanced' with some leftovers..yippiee ! It's interesting to see also how many 80's independent labels have been bought up for next to nothing by the big and dirty boys, specially EMI has been active there..fact that they themselves have been basicly bankrupt for two years only motivates them to bully the little guy. Anyone got a billion dollars in their piggybank should consider buying them and revolutinze the socalled industry and proclaim "we are happy our artists get the attention of downloaders, we will no longer produce hard copies but sell directly thru our download servers diverse compression formats and uncompressed work at various prices max 6 dollars for a full album with full artwork and printfiles"... Hey but that's just me talking what do i know of overhead..hmm

Bauhaus formed in 1978 in Northampton, England. Guitarist/vocalist Daniel Ash, bassist/vocalist David J (born David Jay Haskins), and drummer Kevin Haskins had played together as a trio called the Craze before forming Bauhaus with vocalist Peter Murphy. Originally, the band was called Bauhaus 1919 after the German art movement; by 1979, they had dropped the 1919 from their name.

In August of 1979, the group released their debut single, "Bela Lugosi's Dead," on the independent record label Small Wonder Records. Although it did not make the pop charts, it became the de facto goth rock anthem, staying in the U.K. independent charts for years. Three months later, the group signed with Beggars Banquet's subsidiary label, 4AD. The group's second single, "Dark Entries," was released in January 1980. Following their first European tour, Bauhaus released their third single, "Terror Couple Kill Colonel," in the summer of that year, which became a hit on the indie charts.

After touring America for the first time in September, the group released a version of T. Rex's "Telegram Sam." In October, they released their debut album, In the Flat Field, which reached number one on the independent charts In October 81.
Few debut albums ever arrived so nearly perfectly formed; that In the Flat Field practically single-handedly invented what remains for many as the stereotype of goth music -- wracked, at times spindly vocals about despair and desolation of many kinds, sung over mysterious and moody music -- demonstrates the sui generis power of both the band and its work. This said, perhaps the best thing about the album isn't what it's supposed to sound like, but what it actually does -- an awesomely powerful, glam-inspired rock band firing on all fours, capable of restraint and complete overdrive both, fronted by a charismatic, storming frontman. In the Flat Field propelled Bauhaus' career with a near-perfect bang.

They released their second album, Mask, which revealed a more ambitious musical direction; the new direction, which featured elements of metal and electronic sonic textures, made the music more accessible without abandoning the dark, foreboding core of their music. Mask was a commercial success. Fall 82, the group had a hit with their version of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust." The success of the single propelled their third album, The Sky's Gone Out on the album charts.

Murphy contracted pneumonia at the beginning of 1983, which prevented him from participating in the recording sessions for Bauhaus' fourth album, Burning From the Inside. Consequently, the record featured substantial contributions from Ash and J, who both pursued more personal and atmospheric directions. After Murphy recovered, the band toured Japan and then returned to the U.K. to promote the summer release of Burning From the Inside. The album was another hit, yet in July, Bauhaus split up.

After Bauhaus' breakup, Murphy formed Dali's Car with Japan's Mick Karn and then pursued a solo career. Ash continued with Tones on Tail, a project he began in 1981; Kevin Haskins also joined the band after Bauhaus' split. J made some solo records and joined the Jazz Butcher briefly. Ash, Haskins, and J formed Love and Rockets in 1985 after a proposed Bauhaus reunion fell apart because Peter Murphy wasn't interested in the project. More than a decade later, however, with the careers of both Love and Rockets and Peter Murphy at a standstill, Bauhaus re-formed for several live dates in Los Angeles, mounting a full-blown tour in 1998; the two-disc Gotham documented the reunited group's performance at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.

Bauhaus reunited again in 2005, Bauhaus embarked on a full tour beginning in North America and Mexico in the Autumn of 2005 and ending in Europe in February 2006. In May 2006 the band toured with Nine Inch Nails on the summer leg of their tour. ‘Go Away White’ was recorded in 18 days at Zircon Skye in Ojai, with singer Peter Murphy, bassist David J, guitarist Daniel Ash, and drummer Kevin Haskins playing together as a band in one room, taking first takes as final cuts. So, a new record but apparently a final one, the band having decided to release it as a posthumous swan song....no news since.

Hello, dear visitors, have some excellent drumming for you..hope you'll take up the offer and enjoy..

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

With his second album "Power To The Soul" Gordon Odametey summarizes his experience as a drummer and presents an artistically well balanced result of 20 years of drumming. The 'classical' use of traditional patterns of rhythm is accentuated, however, the musician' s preference for free drumming is easily to be recognized. Gordon Odametey has been living in Berlin for 15 years. He comes from a Ghanian family of musicians and healers and combines experiences made in the diaspora with those of the origins of drumming. In addition to the aesthaetic effect of sounds "Power To The Soul" deals with the power inherent in music: the freeing of emotions and being aware of them. I have to say that the title track - violent, visceral and explosive - is one of the most thrilling demonstrations of percussion I've heard. And so it proceeds - it's rare for a drumming album to approach the spiritual, and anyone who's ever tried to assemble a band knows the difficulty of finding a drummer who also understands music. But this prodigious Ghanaian provides a glowing lesson of what can be achieved by holdness, intuition and good hands. Gordon Odametey's music trancends an overwhelming joy of life.

Rhodeo 1102 Earthsearch

Hello, after a quiet sunday, its not always easy to get the words out, commenting on all the casual violence that's been telivized is useless as it seems the fairytale endings keeps attracting viewers, real life it ain't. That said who's to say reality throws us a curbbal or two, and im not talking about those birds dropping out of the sky..i was amazed earlier to read that the extremely accidental nine year old victim of that nutcase spraying his bullits into the small crowd was born on 9 11 and had been in a book with 50 other kids born that day published as a message of hope... go figure what a dark shadow that attack casts...hmm

Time for the Challenger crew that woke up to find they had been largely surpassed by their children as they themselves had been on ice as it where for 16 years...

It transpires that this 'monster' is actually an android from the Challenger, which has returned. When the sea level begins to rise, the crew are suspicious of the Angels. Hello, now the festive season is behind us, we've been rudely awakened today by another senseless shooting by a mental case with a gun. Hmm what i hear the targeted congres woman is a wonderful caring person and looks to survive the attack, 6 bystanders were not so lucky. Hopefully some good will come from it, the US sure needs common sense to return.
I had to check my back ups to find to my surprise i never posted anything by todays band. I know i had my eye on them but the band is difficult to pigeonhole, and they don't exactly fit the Sundaze label either. But they deserve the attention, at the time they rose from obscurity in the mideighties in the wake of the 4 AD label rise to glory and subsequently raising eachothers profile. Their big sound has been recently remastered by Perry for CD and SACD, these rips won't disappoint you either.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Dead Can Dance (sometimes referred to as DCD) were an ambient, world music band which formed in Melbourne, Australia, in August 1981. Its mainstays were Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry. The band relocated to London in May 1982 and disbanded in 1998, but reunited temporarily for a world tour in 2005. Their 1996 album Spiritchaser reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top World Music Albums Chart. Australian music historian Ian McFarlane described Dead Can Dance as having an ambient style of world music that "constructed soundscapes of mesmerising grandeur and solemn beauty... with African polyrhythms, Gaelic folk, Gregorian chants, Middle Eastern mantras and art-rock".

Dead Can Dance formed in Melbourne, Australia, in August 1981 with Paul Erikson on bass guitar, Lisa Gerrard (ex-Microfilm) on vocals, Simon Monroe (Marching Girls) on drums and Brendan Perry on vocals and guitar. Gerrard and Perry were also a domestic couple and they left Erikson and Monroe in Australia when they moved to London in May 1982, where they signed with alternative rock label 4AD Records. With the duo, the initial United Kingdom line-up were James Pinker, Scott Rodger and Peter Ulrich. The group's debut album, Dead Can Dance, which appeared in February 1984, was produced by the band. The artwork, which depicts a ritual mask from New Guinea, "provide[s] a visual reinterpretation of the meaning of the name Dead Can Dance". The album "featured drum-driven, ambient guitar music with chanting, singing and howling".They followed with a four-track extended play, Garden of the Arcane Delights in August.which saw them plunging into a wider range of music and style, in fact it set them on their musical style.

For their second album, Spleen and Ideal, the group comprised the core duo of Gerrard and Perry with cello, trombones and tympani added in by session musicians. It appeared in November 1985 and was co-produced by the duo with John A. Rivers Raggett describes it as "a consciously medieval European sound ... like it was recorded in an immense cathedral". The group built a following in Europe, and this album reached No. 2 on the UK indie charts. By 1989, Gerrard and Perry had separated domestically – Gerrard returned to Australia and Perry moved to Ireland – but they still wrote, recorded and performed together as Dead Can Dance.

For the next two years, Dead Can Dance were relatively quiet, releasing only two new songs in 1986, both which appeared on the 4AD compilation Lonely Is an Eyesore. Within the Realm of a Dying Sun, the group's third album, appeared in 1986. In 1988, the band released their fourth album, The Serpent's Egg, and wrote the score for the Agustin Villarongas film El Nino de la Luna, which also featured Lisa Gerrard in her acting debut. Aion, Dead Can Dance's fifth album, was released in 1990. Also in 1990, the group toured America for the first time, earning rave reviews. The following year, the group was involved in various festivals and theatrical productions. In 1991, the compilation A Passage in Time was released on Rykodisc, making it the first American release of Dead Can Dance music. Early in 1993, the group provided the score to Baraka and contributed songs to Zazou's Sahara Blue.

Their sixth studio album, Into the Labyrinth, was issued in September 1993 and dispensed with guest musicians entirely; it sold 500,000 copies worldwide and appeared on the Billboard 200. It was a cult success throughout the U.S. and Europe, making them 4AD's highest selling act. They followed with a world tour in 1994 and recorded a live performance in California which was released as Toward the Within, with video versions on Laserdisc and VHS (later on DVD). Many unofficial bootlegs of concerts spanning their career exist, containing several rare songs that were only performed live. Toward the Within is the duo's only official live album. Gerrard released her debut solo recording, The Mirror Pool, and recombined with Perry for the Dead Can Dance studio album, Spiritchaser, in 1996.The album also charted on Billboard 200 and reached No. 1 on the Top World Music Albums Chart.

In 1998, Dead Can Dance planned a follow-up to Spiritchaser, but the band separated before it was realised. One song from the recording sessions, "The Lotus Eaters", was eventually released on the box set Dead Can Dance (1981-1998) and on the 2-disc compilation Wake (2003). Gerrard teamed with Pieter Bourke (Snog, Soma) to issue Duality in April 1998. Perry released Eye of the Hunter in October 1999. DCD reunited in 2005 and released limited-edition recordings of 13 shows from its European tour, and 8 recordings from the subsequent North American tour, as well as a compilation titled Selections from Europe 2005. These concerts were recorded and released on The Show record label.

On 28 March 2010, in an interview for Bulgaria’s Katehizis.com online music magazine, Perry revealed the possibility of a future Dead Can Dance reunion: "Yes, I’ve been talking about it with Lisa [Gerrard]. Maybe in the end of next year we’ll start work again. We’ve been talking about doing something like taking a small chamber orchestra – 10 or 15 people – and tour with them. And we have to write songs. We have to write new material – totally new – so the whole, entire set will be a new album. Then we’ll go into the studio after the tour, record, produce and release a record as well.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Early punk backgrounds and the like behind them, Perry and Gerrard created a striking, dour landmark in early-'80s atmospherics on their first, self-titled effort. Bearing much more resemblance to the similarly gripping, dark early work of bands like the Cocteau Twins and the Cure than to the later fusions of music that would come to characterize the duo's sound, Dead Can Dance is as goth as it gets in many places. However by the time they recorded the Arcane Delights EP (later that year) crystalization of what would become 'their sound' was in full gear and to come to full bloom one year later on the Speen and Ideal album.

With this amazing album, DCD fully took the plunge into the heady mix of musical traditions that first appeared on the previous Arcane Delights EP and would come to define its sound and style for the remainder of its career. Calling it "haunting" and "atmospheric" barely scratches even the initial surface of the album's power. The common identification of the duo with a consciously medieval European sound starts here considing the mystic titles of songs, references to Latin, choirs, and other touches that make the album sound like it was recorded in an immense cathedral. The overall feeling is of an ancient religious service suddenly brought to life in a truly modern way, with stunning results.

Hello, after a week of partying there's still no rest for the wicked..... i thought i start the new year with some eighties power pop, one highly succesful band the other fell thru the cracks, undeservedly but then the music business has never been a fair game..not even in Mozarts days.. In the end it's what the artist himself derives from his efforts, New Musik folded after three albums, maybe they took themselves too seriously, a pity they should have held out longer..

The B-52's originated as a New Wave rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, United States, in 1976. The band's name comes from a particular beehive hairdo resembling the nose cone of the airplane of the same name. During their early years, wigs of that style were often worn by the band's female singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson. Wilson, Pierson, drummer Keith Strickland, guitarist Ricky Wilson (Cindy's older brother) and vocalist Fred Schneider formed the group in an spontanous jam session. The band's quirky take on the New Wave sound of their era was a combination of dance and surf music set apart by the unusual guitar tunings used by Ricky Wilson. Their costume thrift-store chic set them apart as well.

Their first single, "Rock Lobster", recorded for DB Records in 1978, was an underground success that led to the B-52's performing at CBGB's and Max's Kansas City in New York City. "52 Girls" was the B-side. Their debut album, B-52's , contained re-recorded versions of "Rock Lobster" and "52 Girls", along with six more originals and a remake of Petula Clark's classic "Downtown". The debut album stood out as an original, unabashed kitsch mavens the band celebrated all the silliest aspects of pre-Beatles pop culture -- bad hairdos, sci-fi nightmares, dance crazes, pastels, and anything else that sprung into their minds -- to a skewed fusion of pop, surf, avant-garde, amateurish punk, and white funk.

The following year, they issued Wild Planet, which reached the Top 20 on the U.S. album charts; Party Mix!, an EP's worth of reworked material from the band's first two proper outings, appeared in 1981. Released in 1982, Mesopotamia arose out of a series of aborted sessions with producer David Byrne which saw the B-52's largely abandon their trademark sense of humor, a situation rectified by the next year's Whammy!, a move into electronic territory. After a Schneider solo LP, 1984's Fred Schneider & the Shake Society, the group returned to the studio to record 1986's Bouncing Off the Satellites. On October 12, 1985, however, Ricky Wilson died; though originally his death was attributed to natural causes, it was later revealed that he had succumbed to AIDS. In light of Wilson's death, the group found it impossible to promote the new album, and they spent the next several years in seclusion

In 1989, the B-52's finally returned with Cosmic Thing, their most commercially successful effort to date. Produced by Don Was and Nile Rodgers, the album launched several hit singles, including the party smash "Love Shack," "Roam," and "Deadbeat Club." In 1990, Cindy Wilson retired from active duty, leaving the remaining trio to soldier on for 1992's Good Stuff. A year later, dubbed the BC-52's, they performed the theme song for Steven Spielberg's live-action feature The Flintstones. Wilson returned to the group for a tour supporting the release of 1998's hits collection Time Capsule. Four years later the double-disc Nude on the Moon compilation would dive deeper into their catalog by featuring rare tracks, live recordings, and remixes along with the hits.

Funplex, the band's first original album in sixteen years (since 1992's Good Stuff), was released on March 25, 2008 by Astralwerks. The album is a slick, synthesizer-driven effort produced by Steve Osborne, who was asked to work on the album based on his work with New Order on the album Get Ready. The album debuted at #11 on the Billboard charts in the U.S., immediately making it the second-highest charting B-52's album ever. The band toured in support of the album as well as making television appearances on talk shows.

New Musik were one of the first British groups to come out with a sound that successfully combined synths and "real" instruments. That said, their near-total lack of commercial acceptance is one of the great mysteries of early-'80s pop. Their music, rooted in classic pop songwriting but with a forward-looking interest in shiny electronics, is both instantly accessible and coolly forbidding. This dichotomy is most clearly expressed in the split between group leader Tony Mansfield's melodies, which are hummable, welcoming, and often quite bouncy, and his alienated lyrics.

New Musik formed in 1977, growing out of a casual band of south London school friends who jammed together under the name End of the World; singer and guitarist Mansfield, keyboardist Nick Straker, and bassist Tony Hibbert drafted drummer Phil Towner, who had played on the Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star." Rather than hotly pursue a record deal, the newly christened New Musik wisely chose to hone their craft first. Working during down times at a south London studio where Mansfield was informally employed as a session musician and apprentice engineer, the foursome recorded most of what would become their first two albums before approaching the British label GTO Records with the finished master tapes. However, before GTO released the first New Musik single, "Straight Lines," in August 1979, Straker had left for a fusion-oriented solocareer. He was replaced by Clive Gates.

This new lineup completed New Musik's debut album, From A to B, released in April of 1980. Several Singles were taken from it with "Living By Numbers" scoring the best. Early 81 saw the release of from A to B part two Anywhere, though Mansfield 's production skills obviously had grown, the album unexpectedly didn't do that well. My take on that, looking at the gatefold sleeve..they look like a progband, which they certainly weren't. With hindsight it could be said they lacked a niche, and the broadsky countries, where their music should have done well, didn't pick them up.

After Anywhere's disappointing commercial performance in the U.K., New Musik went through a period of turmoil. Hibbert and Towner both left the band, leaving Mansfield and Gates to record the third and final New Musik album as a duo with a hired drummer. Unlike From A to B and Anywhere, which blended synthesizers with acoustic guitars, live percussion, and other classic pop elements, Warp is almost entirely electronic. One of the first albums to be recorded primarily with digital samplers and emulators, Warp sounds a bit more dated than the first two New Musik albums, but the songs, among the most lyrically pessimistic of the band's career, are quite strong. New Musik split after this album, as Mansfield's sideline career as a producer started taking more of his time. Through the first half of the '80s, Mansfield produced hit singles for Naked Eyes, Mari Wilson, the B-52s, After the Fire, and others.

Hello, the years are flying by, never more so for the crew of the Challenger..

The crew are gassed by an android, and they become unconscious, to wake up again with a big surprise awaiting them

That means, don't be distracted by all the crazy nonsense that's presented by the media, don't let stupid politicians, greedy banksters or global fearmongerers distract you from what's really important and that is what have you to bring to (y)our well being. Everyone counts..despite what you have been led to believe.

Today on the New Years Daze afterparty i had to go for something utterly relaxing..it's not background music but atmosphere music, coined as ambient in years to come, now such can get chilly sometimes but not with Eno here, infact there's more structure than consciously noticable..but your unconscious does, and thats the beauty of it...relax and enjoy

Brian Eno has featured several times at this blog so i'll keep it short here

Brian Peter George St. Jean le Baptiste de la Salle Eno, sometimes simply Eno, (born May 15, 1948), is an electronic musician who started his musical career with Roxy Music. He then went on to produce a number of highly eclectic and increasingly ambient electronic and acoustic albums. He is widely cited as coining the term "ambient music" in his Ambient series (Music for Airports, The Plateaux of Mirror, Day of Radiance and On Land). He collaborated with David Byrne, formerly of Talking Heads, on My Life in the Bush of Ghosts which was one of the first albums not in the rap or hip hop genres to extensively feature sampling. Eno collaborated with David Bowie as a writer and musician on Bowie's influential "Berlin trilogy" of albums, Low, Heroes and Lodger, on Bowie's later album 1. Outside, and on the song "I'm Afraid of Americans". Eno has also collaborated with Robert Fripp of King Crimson, Robert Wyatt on his Shleep CD, with Jon Hassell and with the German duo Cluster. Eno has acted as a producer for a number of bands, including U2 and James. He won the best producer award at the 1994 and 1996 BRIT awards. He is an innovator across many fields of music and recently he has collaborated on the development of the Koan algorithmic music generator. He has also been involved in the field of visual arts. In 1996 Brian Eno, and others, started the Long Now Foundation to educate the public into thinking about the very long term future of society. Brian Eno is also a columnist for the British newspaper, The Observer.

The latter part of 1975 was a remarkably creative period for Brian Eno. With his masterpiece Another Green World, Eno began moving away from the structure and sound of pop music toward a more static instrumental model, influenced in part by Erik Satie and strongly informed by his prior collaborations with Robert Fripp. Recorded just a month after Another Green World, Discreet Music is his first full foray into what has become known as ambient music. Using the same system of two reel-to-reel tape recorders as No Pussyfooting and Evening Star, Eno was able to layer simple parts atop one another, resulting in a beautiful piece of music that never really changes but constantly evolves with the addition and decay of different parts. And while there were elements of noise and dissonance on the albums with Fripp, all the sounds here are calming and serene. The second half of the album deals with the same ideas of recurring themes and evolution but uses a different approach. Here, members of the Cockpit Ensemble use pieces of the score of Pachelbel's Canon in D Major, but the relation of these elements changes over time by having the parts slow at differing intervals or using different lengths of the musical score. The same notions of theme and constant variation appear, but without the aid of the tape delay system. The tones of the strings are vastly different from the synth tones of the title track, but the effect on the listener is the same, with the pieces delicately unfolding over time. Discreet Music's reputation as a groundbreaking and influential work is surpassed only by its placid beauty.

Recorded intermittently between 1975 and 1978, Music for Films compiles moody, instrumental electronic pieces intended as soundtrack material for imaginary motion pictures; the songs are brief and fragmentary, ranging from the haunting to the luminous, densely layered.

Although it's his Music For Airports album, his work with Roxy Music, and his collaborations with David Byrne and other artists are the ones that have been talked about the most, this is an album that is just as good in my opinion (which is a collaboration with many different people as well). Comprised of work recorded over a 2-year period of time, some of the 18 tracks were actually used in films, while others were not. The short tracks (ranging from one and a half minutes to just over four) are all fairly stripped-down ambient, but unlike the aforementioned Music For Airports, never linger on enough to get to the point of being too repetitive. If anything, some of them feel like they end just as they're beginning. Perhaps it's just a generational difference that Eno prefers to keep things short, while many current ambient artist choose to stretch things out into longer, sprawling works. As mentioned before, Eno collaborates with lots of different people on the album and most of the contributions are that of one instrument in a track. Phil Collins, Robert Fripp, and John Cale (as well as several others) all add their respective touches to different tracks, and even though there are so many people working on the album (and so many different tracks), the album is surprisingly cohesive. The release starts out with a track that sounds very similar to something from Music For Airports, with it's chiming minimal sound, followed by one of the prettiest tracks "From The Same Hill." Over some warm, quiet washes of sound, a plucked acoustic guitar gives the track a simple, fragile sound. If you enjoy ambient music and want an idea of some of the roots of the genre, this is really one of those essential releases. Since the time that the pieces were composed (the late 70s), Eno has continued to create lots of music (as well as art installations and interactive pieces), but his early work proves that he has always been important as a musician and innovator.

Hello, today the 7th post of the new format; GoldyRhox, classic pop rock.

Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip and for the younger visitors, for certain something to confront your parents with (as loud as possible)..don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accomodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.

They would have been the biggest selling band ever, were it not for the fact that somehow they failed to appeal to the US east-west coast media controllers, possibly these feared an enormous flood of copy cats or the whole happy husband/wife image didn't connect with their live style..who knows the rest of the world fell for them big time..they sold almost half a billion records, hmm well Napoleon sure made a big comeback, europop was never more popular thanks to these Swedes.

Philip Morris Glass (born January 31, 1937) is considered one of the most influential American composers of the late-20th century and is widely acknowledged as a composer who has brought art music to the public where his big breaktrough came with the movie score Koyaansquatsi (Life out of Balance) . Thus he followed illustrous precursors such as Richard Strauss, Kurt Weill and Leonard Bernstein. Although his music is often, though controversially, described as minimalist, he distances himself from this label, describing himself instead as a composer of "music with repetitive structures". Although his early, mature music is minimalist, he has evolved stylistically. Currently, he describes himself as a "Classicist", pointing out that he trained in harmony and counterpoint and studied Franz Schubert, Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Mozart with Nadia Boulanger.

Glass is a prolific composer: He has written works for his own musical group which he founded, the Philip Glass Ensemble (for which he still performs on keyboards), as well as operas, musical theatre works, eight symphonies, eight concertos, solo works, string quartets, and film scores. Three of his film scores have been nominated for Academy Awards.

Since the late 1980s, Glass has also written works for solo piano, starting with occasional piano pieces which are associated with his friends, such as Witchita Sutra Vortex (1988). This piece was followed by two piano cycles: Metamorphosis (1988) Solo Piano (1989) is an album of piano music composed and performed by Philip Glass. It was produced by Kurt Munkacsi. Its first track, Metamorphosis One, was featured in the Battlestar Galactica television episode "Valley of Darkness".Its second track, Metamorphosis Two, formed the basis of one of the main musical themes in the film The Hours.

Besides working in the classical tradition for the concert hall, for theater and film, Philip Glass (b. 1937) also has strong ties to rock, ambient music, electronic music and world music. Early admirers included musicians Brian Eno and David Bowie, who acknowledged the influence of Glass's minimalist style. Years later Glass, who had become friends with Bowie, orchestrated certain pieces from Bowie and Eno's collaborative albums Low and Heroes .

According to Philip Glass, the Low Symphony, composed in the Spring of 1992, is based on the record Low by David Bowie and Brian Eno first released in 1977. "My approach was to treat the themes very much as if they were my own and allow their transformations to follow my own compositional bent when possible. In practice, however, Bowie and Eno's music certainly influenced how I worked, leading me to sometimes surprising musical conclusions. In the end I think I arrived at something of a real collaboration between my music and theirs." (Philip Glass, New York City, 1992)

Following the success in 1993 with his Low Symphony, Glass repeated the experiment with another Bowie/Eno collaboration, Heroes, an album that drew its inspiration from the then-divided city of Berlin. The six movements of Heroes Symphony function as independent pieces that, between them, gradually build into a self-sufficient musical work. Like Low before it, Heroes was one of David Bowie's most experimental and avant-garde records, so it made sense that Philip Glass would follow the Low Symphony with the Heroes Symphony, adapting Bowie and Brian Eno's original, minimalistic synthesized sketches for full orchestra. The new arrangements emphasize the icy allure of the original compositions, and the shimmering, glassy textures sound coldly beautiful.

Keith Jarrett (May 8, 1945) is of Hungarian and Scottish extraction, grew up in suburban Allentown, Pennsylvania, with significant early exposure to music. He possessed absolute pitch, and he displayed prodigious musical talents as a young child. He began piano lessons just before his third birthday, and at age five he appeared on a TV talent program. The young Jarrett gave his first formal piano recital at the age of seven, playing works by composers including Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and Saint-Saëns, and ending with two of his own compositions.
In his teens, as a student at Emmaus High School in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, Jarrett learned jazz and quickly became proficient in it. In his early teens, he developed a strong interest in the contemporary jazz scene, so much so he turned down classical training in Paris. Following his graduation from Emmaus High School in 1963, he moved to Boston where he attended the Berklee College of Music and played cocktail piano in local clubs. After a year he moved to New York City, where he played at the Village Vanguard.

Jarrett started his career with Art Blakey, moving on to play with Charles Lloyd and Miles Davis. Since the early 1970s he has enjoyed a great deal of success in both jazz and classical music, as a group leader and a solo performer. His improvisations draw not only from the traditions of jazz, but from other genres as well, especially Western classical music, gospel, blues, and ethnic folk music. In 1973, Jarrett began playing totally improvised solo concerts, and it is the popularity of these voluminous concert recordings that has made him one of the best-selling jazz artists in history. Albums released from these concerts include The Köln Concert (1975) which became the best selling piano recording in history;and Sun Bear Concerts (1976) - a 10-LP (and later 6-CD) Box Set.

Preliminaries to the concert were not auspicious. The concert was organized by Vera Brandes, Germany’s youngest concert promoter. Brandes had selected a Bösendorfer 290 Imperial concert grand piano for the performance, but the stagehands did not realize that the piano was stored in the cellar of the building. Instead, they found a Bösendorfer baby grand backstage and assumed that it was to be used. This piano was intended for rehearsals only, and was in poor condition.

Jarrett had not slept in two nights. He arrived at the opera house late and tired after an exhausting hours-long drive in a Renault R4. He rushed to finish a hasty meal just minutes before the concert was to begin. After learning about the substandard piano, Jarrett nearly refused to play. Brandes, who just turned 18 years old, had to convince the 29-year-old Jarrett to perform nonetheless. Almost as an afterthought, the sound technicians decided to place microphones and record the concert, even if only for the house archive. The instrument was tinny and thin in the upper registers, so Jarrett concentrated on ostinatos and rhythmic figures. Despite the obstacles, Jarrett's performance was enthusiastically received, and the subsequent recording was acclaimed by the critics and an enormous commercial success. With sales of more than 3.5 million, it became the best-selling solo album in jazz history......

Rhodeo 1012 Happy Xmas

Hello, Happy Xmas to you all, another year has gone and war is not over..there's just too much profit in it...for some..and yet there are 75 million more of us this year. Good thing US and Russia agreed to scrap a lot of nukes..these things are useless anyway, alas admitting to that is a step too far still. Secrecy still rules, despite Wikileaks, in fact most of that is useful destraction of the real evils. RhoDeo 1012 Goldy Rhox 6

Hello, today the 6th post of the new format; GoldyRhox, classic pop rock .

Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip and for the younger visitors, for certain something to confront your parents with (as loud as possible)..don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...
That said i will try to accomodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album. However you can check the Goldy Rhox Leaks in the links section to find a pdf of what will and has been on in the first 10 Goldy Rhox episodes...Take your pick it's live inside your browser....

Those that picked up on the Fab Four hint last week, will know what to expect today..the blue version of their career...magical strawberry diamonds in the sky forever across the universe...gosh

Monty Python Sings is exactly what it sounds like: 25 songs (six under a minute) written and performed by members of Monty Python's Flying Circus. The numbers should be instantly familiar to fans of their legendary sketch comedy series and theatrical features. Each member of the troupe is represented to some degree or another, including director/animator Terry Gilliam with the tiny tune "I've Got Two Legs" (:33), and two co-written by the late Graham Chapman (to whom the compilation was dedicated): "Medical Love Song" and "Knights of the Round Table (Camelot Song)." John Cleese, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin contributed to several compositions, but the lion's share were written/co-written by the most musically inclined member, Eric Idle. All of the songs are sung by Pythons, with the exception of "Brian Song," which features Sonia Jones channeling Shirley Bassey's Bond anthem "Goldfinger" -- quite successfully, too. It's debatable whether those not already enamored by the Pythons' unique brand of humor would be won over by this recording. For the already converted, however, it represents an opportunity to have all of their best known songs in one place: Life of Brian's "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", "Lumberjack Song" and, of course, "Spam Song". For better or for worse, many of their most politically incorrect songs are also included: Although packed to the brim with (lyrical) comedy, Monty Python Sings is strictly a musical recording and does not include any sketches, spoken word pieces, or narration.

For those of you who don’t know, neil (often written in lower case) was a hippie character, played by Nigel Planer in the alternative comedy series The Young Ones. After that programme came to an end, Planer reprised the character and recorded this album, full of late 60s/early 70s hippie classics, interspersed with spoken word comedy pieces. What’s of greatest interest here though are the musicians involved – the cast list (in addition to a few of Planer’s comedy chums) features a handful of musicians from the early 70s Canterbury Scene. Dave Stewart (the Hatfield and the North man, not to be confused with the beardy one from the Eurythmics) has the greatest impact, playing lots of instruments as well as handling production duties. The first big question which needs asking is exactly how did Planer get these musicians involved? Did he know them personally?

The album begins with an apology from neil, explaining how the album turned out nothing like he’d wanted, before launching into a cover of Traffic’s ‘Hole In My Shoe’ (a number 2 hit in the UK in 1984; it held that postition for three weeks, having been held off the number 1 spot by Frankie Goes To Hollywood's ‘Two Tribes’). Despite a nasty synthesised sample of an elephant, this arrangement of ‘Hole In My Shoe’ is fabulous and very faithful to the original. Dave Stewart’s production is fantastic, as it is throughout the rest of the album. It’s such a pity this only became a huge hit due to its so-called novelty potential.

After neil falls down the sink and has a conversation with a mouldy potato, things get ..... well get it and enjoy

Bad News, the parody of a bad heavy metal band, began as a 1982 episode (pre-This Is Spinal Tap) from the Comic Strip, an English comedy troupe whose members numbered three of the four Young Ones (Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmonson, and Nigel Planer) and writer Peter Richardson (other members included Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders).

Interspersed between several intentionally terrible (and thankfully short) songs such as "Drink Till I Die" and "Masturbike" are what sound like mainly improvised and edited routines, wherein the band tries to record a Tolkein-meets-Iron Maiden mood-setting introduction ("Excalibur"), attempts to get one good song out of the bass player ("Hey, Mr. Bassman"), and engages in lots of funny arguing and, eventually, fighting. The album holds up over time, with many throwaway jokes revealing themselves only after years of listening. Recommended to fans of 1980s British humor. Produced by Brian May who also helps the band destroy Bohemian Rhapsody

Earth Search II 1012

Hello, as the festive season has begon, many are still stuck by snow and ice, i suppose this will mean even more co2 in the atmosphere to keep that global warming coming. Meanwhile another global scam will relieve the people of their money, yes you pay and we (can) do nothing.. sorry ..it's the sun after all, but thank you for your billions..our estates are now fully equiped with renewables. Yes, i am very cynical about the globalwarming protagonists.
Don't let it spoil your happy holidaze, booze is an excellent de-icer (wink). They no longer need it on Paradise as the ice has turned to water...too much of it..in fact the name Paradise seems ever further from the truth.....
