RhoDeo 1427 Goldy Rhox 168

Hello, the Tour De France coughed up a belter GC favorite and last years winner, Froome fell of his bike twice even before the cobblestones started, he didn't get back on, disappointing attitude there not a great champion after all. Meanwhile Nibali who hadn't done any reconnaissance, empowered by his yellow jersey as well as some strong team mates support rode all his competition on minutes, it will be an interesting Tour de France this year. Oh yes a Dutchman, Lars Boom won, the first Dutchman to win a tourstage in 9 years. No such luck for the Dutch in their semi final penalty showdown with Argentina. Before, 2 hours of two teams that managed to neutralise each others attack, Messi and Robben made impotent such a contrast to the night before. Go Germany ....

Today the 168th post of GoldyRhox, classic pop rock, as the Worldcup plays out these weeks i thought it fitting to show in the darklight today  a Brazilian rock band formed in 1982 in Brasília, Distrito Federal. The band primarily consisted of Renato Russo (vocals), Dado Villa-Lobos (guitar) and Marcelo Bonfá (drums). In its earlier days, they also had a bassist, Renato Rocha, but he would leave the band due to creative divergences.

Renato Russo (born Renato Manfredini, Jr.) created today's mystery band in 1982, in Brasília, after his short presence in an earlier band named Aborto Elétrico ("Electric Abortion"). Today's mystery band  was initially formed by Renato Russo, Marcelo Bonfá (drums), Eduardo Paraná (guitars) and Paulo Paulista (keyboards), but Paraná and Paulista would quickly leave the band. Dado Villa-Lobos replaced Paraná as the guitarist. In the beginning of 1985, Renato Rocha joined the group as the bass player, after Renato Russo couldn't play any instrument because of a suicide attempt that injured his wrist. Renato Russo would then focus on the vocals.

Many elements helped shape the identity of today's mystery band, consciously or not, Renato Russo was heavily influenced by The Smiths and U2, particularly The Smiths lead singer Morrissey, with his extremely personal lyrics and idiosyncratic on-stage performance. He was also influenced by Joy Division's Ian Curtis. Thematically, Russo and the other members were also influenced by literature, especially that of Portuguese poet Luís de Camões, whose poetry is featured in more than one of the band's songs.

In the first concert in Brasília after the release of their first album, 200 people were wounded in a riot. The band would never again perform publicly in Brasília, the city from which Russo and other band members hailed.

A Tempestade, ou O Livro dos Dias ("The Storm" or "The Book of Days") was recorded between January and June, 1996 and released on September 20, 1996. This would be their seventh and last album released before Renato Russo's death less than a month later. This album surpassed V in terms of introspection and sadness in the lyrics, probably related to the state of Russo's health. The album has a very sad tone, directly connected to the fact that Russo and his health were deteriorating very quickly, both psychologically and physically.

Renato Russo would die one month after the release of Tempestade, on October 11, 1996, from an AIDS-related illness. One day later, Bonfá and Villa-Lobos announced that the band was officially disbanded.

Most of the albums i 'll post made many millions for the music industry and a lot of what i intend to post still gets repackaged and remastered decades later, squeezing the last drop of profit out of bands that for the most part have ceased to exist long ago, although sometimes they get lured out of the mothballs to do a big bucks gig or tour. Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accommodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.

Today's mystery album, is the third studio album by Brazilian rock band Legião Urbana. Released November 1987, it has a heavier sonority than its predecessors, and most of the songs of the album were written by Renato Russo when he was still a member of his previous band Aborto Elétrico. One of the most successful albums by the band, it sold more than 1 million copies, and received a Diamond Certification by ABPD. It was also the last album that featured bassist Renato Rocha.  Many of this album's tracks were composed during the 1970s, when Renato Russo was still a member of Aborto Elétrico. Only two tracks of it can be considered more "recent": "Mais do Mesmo" and "Angra dos Reis" (that references the construction of the Angra Nuclear Power Plant). The tracks "Que País É Este" and "Conexão Amazônica" were written by Russo in 1978 and were originally performed by Aborto Elétrico. The title track was voted by the Brazilian edition of Rolling Stone as the 81st greatest Brazilian song.

"Faroeste Caboclo" was written in 1979 and was performed during Russo's "Trovador Solitário" ("Lonely Troubadour") phase. One of the most famous songs performed by Legião, and their third longest one Renato Russo considered this song "his 'Hurricane'". Later is was used as basis for a movie. Also in the album are the tracks "Depois do Começo", the only track written by Russo that he did not like, for considering it to be too pretentious, and "Química", originally recorded by Os Paralamas do Sucesso in their debut album Cinema Mudo. During the tour that promoted this album, a tragedy occurred at the Mané Garrincha Stadium; fans got overexcited and were stomped to death. This incident increased Russo's stage fright, and the band's following work would become more introspective. This here the 2007 remaster.
