Hello, we're still on that island with a huge place in the global music catalogue, Jamaica. A production hothouse and they say the Weed makes you slow and lazy-go figure. Without the ganja driven reggae music Jamaica would have remained a Caribbean backwater and dare i say would never have given us Bolt, the fastest man in the world.
Today a couple of samplers to enjoy.

RhoDeo 1142 Illuminatus
Hello, hope you've had an enjoyable weekend and support the 99%. Looking at some of the newspaper comments a US organized campaign to defame the protesters is going on, likely poorly payed suckers desperately needing some extra cash, that's how it works. Meanwhile the Rothchild bankster zionists have their own legion of posters called megaphone i suspect they can be instructed as well, in a concerted effort to control/occupy the internet opinions. No doubt people get influenced by that, specially the poorly educated, uninformed US citizens, but the ever opportunistic politicians can hide behind such as well.
Earlier this morning I saw Seb Vettel cruise to victory again, the guy is in a league of his own. Behind him Hamilton and Webber battled it out for most of the race, Schumacher got passed Alonso but didn't get much pleasure from that as not much later he was run of the road by an over ambitious Petrov thinking he could keep Alonso's Ferrari behind him by not braking.
Time to continue with the 8th trip, Hod chapters 4 till 6

The three parts of the trilogy are subdivided into five "books" named after the five seasons of the Discordian calendar (Chaos, Discord, Confusion, Bureaucracy, The Aftermath). This book is not designed to be easy to digest. You are not meant to internalize its message thoughtlessly. It's funny, contradictory, and self-aware, and it's hard for people who take themselves seriously to get caught up in a book that, for the most part, doesn't. I could say this book deserves to be more than a cult classic, its cultural influence will continue to seep in with or without grander acclaim.
The plot meanders between the thoughts, hallucinations and inner voices (both real and imagined) of its many characters, as well as through time (past, present and future)— sometimes in mid-sentence. Much of the back story is explained via dialogue between characters, who recount unreliable, often mutually contradictory, versions of their supposed histories. There are even parts in the book in which the narrative reviews and jokingly deconstructs the work itself.
The Illuminatus ! Trilogy was performed by the incomparable Ken Campbell and Chris Fairbank, and broadcast live in London on ResonanceFM in June 2006. In 1976, Ken Campbell adapted Illuminatus! for the stage - a 10 hour epic which went on to open the Royal National Theatre in London under the patronage of Her Majesty Elizabeth II. Chris Fairbank played Simon Moon, among other characters. 30 years and 23 Fernando Poos since Ken and Chris first breathed life into Shea and Wilson's masterpiece and Illuminatus! seems even more startlingly relevant and chock full of laughter than ever before. Enjoy the Trips!

The trilogy's rambling story begins with an investigation by two New York City detectives (Saul Goodman and Barney Muldoon) into the bombing of Confrontation, a leftist magazine, and the disappearance of its editor, Joe Malik. Discovering the magazine's investigation into the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr., the two follow a trail of memos that suggest the involvement of powerful secret societies. They slowly become drawn into a web of conspiracy theories. Meanwhile, the magazine's reporter, George Dorn — having been turned loose without support deep in right-wing Mad Dog, Texas — is arrested for drug possession. He is jailed and physically threatened, at one point hallucinating about his own execution. The prison is bombed and he is rescued by the Discordians, led by the enigmatic Hagbard Celine, captain of a golden submarine. Hagbard represents the Discordians in their eternal battle against the Illuminati, the conspiratorial organization that secretly controls the world. He finances his operations by smuggling illicit substances.

Hello, Occupy rallies all over, as the western world seems to finally have woken up to the insane games bankers are playing (can anyone explain why they seem to have to lend money to each other all the time ? Clearly they are going out of credit all the time) Worse is that politicians which one would assume keep tabs and impose limits aren't doing their job or can i say are more interested in a pay off as in campaign contributions) In Europe that is less the case but they are coerced by their own big banks and those from the States and nobody has the balls to call their bluff, we the people need to take back control from the banksters and hang at least 100 of them, throw their families out on the streets and confiscate the lot. That will teach them.
Time for a revolution ! The NY police maybe thick and corrupt but they too have been shafted and whilst thusfar goings on have been peaceful, it won't last and nasties will incite riots and panicking governments will come down hard, as they have no real argument for letting the people being ruined by a few hundred financial scam artists (off with their heads !) . These guys are the true terrorists of our day.
As i announced last week I got myself a new TV/monitor, installed it today and alas things didn't go smooth, the tv works though the ISP decoder box demands to be in between (channelhopping) but the biggest problem came when i reset the screen size, colors were fine on the original size but when i went up to 1920x1080 i got a blue tinge which i couldn't get rid off, resetting didn't help neither did going back to a restore point, meanwhile my tv image was fine, the blue is already there during start up which is odd and points to a motherboard issue, really not what i wanted, this is an old machine and i haven't planned buying a new one, alas google hasn't provided me with a solution thusfar. duh

As both a solo artist and as a member of groups including Tangerine Dream and Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze emerged among the founding fathers of contemporary electronic music, his epic, meditative soundscapes a key influence on the subsequent rise of the new age aesthetic. Continueing from last week...
After collaborating with Stomu Yamash'ta on 1976's Go, Schulze resurfaced with a flurry of new solo material, including the LP Moondawn, 1977's Mirage and two volumes of the porn soundtrack Body Love. Schulze developed a Minimoog technique that sounds uncannily like an electric guitar, which is quite impressive in concert. Schulze often takes German events as a starting point for his compositions, a notable example being on his 1978 album "X".
Richard Wahnfried, then simply Wahnfried after 1993, is the long-time and only real alias for Klaus Schulze – originally a pseudonym, later an official side project name. Seven albums were released under this name between 1979 and 1997. Main characteristics of the Wahnfried albums (as opposed to Schulze's regular works) are, oriented towards more mainstream genres (some would say "more commercial"), such as rock, dance, techno and trance. Always allowing for collaborative and less electronic albums, with known or unknown guest musicians performing along Schulze's synths.
He remained extraordinarily prolific in the years to follow, with 1979's Dune, inspired by the Frank Herbert sci-fi classic, becoming his 11th solo record released during the 1970s alone. In the 1980s Schulze moved from analog to digital instruments, and his work accordingly became less experimental and more accessible. Although the switch to purely digital recording and instruments is evident in the style of Dig It (1980) It was not until the release of Trancefer (1981) that the shift in style became evident. Schulze's style transformed from gentle melodic journeys to an ever-growing crescendo of music consisting of multi-layered rhythmical passages.Schulze issued a steady stream of new work in addition to various productions released on his own IC label;
Starting with Beyond Recall, the first half of the 1990s was the notorious "sample" period, when Schulze used a wide variety of pre-recorded sounds such as screeching birds and sensuous female moans in his studio albums and live performances. , Schulze had immersed himself in contemporary dance music, occasionally working in conjunction with Pete Namlook (as Dark Side of the Moog). The first half of the 1990s also saw Schulze experiment with sampling, starting with the album Beyond Recall, but these forays largely ended in 1995 with the release of In Blue. Ten years later, he began re-releasing his earlier works and collaborating with Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance. In April 2008, Schulze released Kontinuum; he also released Farscape, a joint project with Gerrard, in June of the same year.

Mirage is one of Klaus Schulze's best albums. It is certainly among the eeriest e-music sets ever. He created it as "an electronic winter landscape dedicated to Hans Dieter Schulze." It has somewhat of a symphonic structure. There are two main pieces: "Velvet Voyage" and "Crystal Lake." Each piece has six separate movements with experimental sounds serving as the recurring themes. The album has cold and icy textures that take listeners to the brink of the winter solstice. The experimental timbres give the set a sci-fi feel. This is vital space music. The bonustrack is a formerly unreleased long track that Klaus Schulze recorded six months prior to "Mirage". It's the complete version of a soundtrack piece that was originally used for a Dutch movie.

Each track on X or "Ten" (since it's Schulze's tenth release ) is titled after famous German personalities, but it's the provocative electronic music within the names that makes this one of his best albums. On this two-CD set, Schulze's sequencer is joined by electric guitar and drums, that pleasingly brings an earthy, simplistic feel into his pastiches. "Friedrich Nietzsche" is the most vibrant of all six, harboring a complex synthesized voyage with imaginative sculpturing using both the Moog and Mellotron. Extreme washes of sturdy tones and pulses make up this wonderfully crafted track, one of Schulze's best. In the same manner, the rest of the album is pure electronic bombardment. With 12 different types of sequencers and synthesizers molded, merged, and fused together, the musical landscape created is overwhelming. On both the 29-minute "Ludwig II Von Bayern" and the equally lengthy "Heinrich Von Kleist," an atmosphere is created through the multitude of variable electronics, both of the guitar and keyboard type. A true pioneer at his craft, Schulze's X is one of the more definitive albums of his career.

Klaus Schulze had acknowledged his admiration for Frank Herbert on X, so the decision to devote a new work to Herbert's brilliant novel, Dune, isn't unexpected. What is surprising is how good this piece is; from the opening amorphous forms and alien sounds to the stately synthesizer music that rises by midway, "Dune" is one of Schulze's finest moments. Perhaps it's the absence of percussion or the presence of Wolfgang Tiepold's cello that elevates the musical discussion, but for the first half of this record Schulze throws his hat in with the modern classical masters of the late 20th century and holds his own. "Shadows of Ignorance" reintroduces percussion and sequencer-driven structure, it contains a long poem written by Schulze, the bulk of Klaus' existential observations are delivered by a half-singing/half-chanting Arthur Brown in harmony with the electronic music and balanced nicely by the cello. The bonus track is derived from a track recorded live at L'Abbaye de l'Epeau outside Le Mans late 1979 during the "Dune" tour.

Hello, more rap coming your way today, after the New York party rap of the early eighties and the militant respons later that decade, the first half of the nineties saw a blossoming of Westcoast's ego tripping gangsta rap and a breakthru towards mainstream not in the least supported by MTV's eagerness to play the videoclips of scantly dressed 'ho's' dancing around the golden chained hip hoppers. It wasn't all that one dimensional but obviously it was supported by enough teen spirit.
Today's duo is one of the most successful hip-hop groups of all time, having received six Grammy Awards as well as selling 25 million copies of OutKast's eight releases,
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
André "André 3000" Benjamin (formerly known as Dré) and Savannah, Georgia-born Antwan "Big Boi" Patton attended the same high school in the Atlanta borough of East Point, and several lyrical battles made each gain respect for the other's skills. They formed OutKast and were pursued by Organized Noize Productions, hitmakers for TLC and Xscape. Signed to the local LaFace label just after high school, OutKast recorded and released "Player's Ball," then watched the single rise to number one on the rap charts.Their debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, hit the Top 20 in 1994 and was certified platinum by the end of the year. Dré and Big Boi also won Best New Rap Group of the Year at the 1995 Source Awards.
OutKast returned with a new album in 1996, releasing ATLiens that August; it hit number two and went platinum with help from the gold-selling single "Elevators (Me & You)" , as well as the Top 40 title track. Aquemini followed in 1998, also hitting number two and going double platinum. There were no huge hit singles this time around, but critics lavishly praised the album's unified, progressive vision, hailing it as a great leap forward and including it on many year-end polls. Unfortunately, in a somewhat bizarre turn of events, OutKast was sued over the album's lead single, "Rosa Parks," by none other than the civil rights pioneer herself, who claimed that the group had unlawfully appropriated her name to promote their music, also objecting to some of the song's language. The initial court decision dismissed the suit in late 1999.
Dré modified his name to André 3000 before the group issued its hotly anticipated new album, originally titled 'Sandbox', the pair's fourth album, Stankonia was released in October 2000 to excellent reviews. The album was seen as a change in the group's musical style, as it had a more commercial and mainstream appeal, compared to their previous three albums which were darker and deeper. Riding the momentum of uniformly excellent reviews and the stellar singles "B.O.B." and "Ms. Jackson," Stankonia debuted at number two and went triple platinum in just a few months; meanwhile, "Ms. Jackson" became their first number one pop single the following February.
In September 2003, OutKast released a double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. It is essentially two solo albums, one by each member, packaged as a single release under the OutKast banner; the two members also appear on each others' discs for a few songs apiece. Big Boi's Speakerboxxx is largely a funk and Dirty South blended party record; André 3000's The Love Below features only brief instances of hip hop, presenting instead elements found in funk, jazz, rock, electronic music, and R&B.Speakerboxxx/The Love Below won the Grammy Award for the 2004 Album of the Year, becoming the first album consisting solely of hip-hop to receive the honor
Members began working on a joint film, Idlewild, directed by OutKast music video director Bryan Barber. Idlewild, a Prohibition-era musical film set to a blues-influenced hip-hop soundtrack, was released on August 25, 2006 The album was released early 2006 by August it reached platinum status. Big Boi announced plans to release a full fledged solo album, titled Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. Meanwhile André 3000 returned to rapping in 2007, appearing on various remixes, and has been working on a sole album. Outkast are set to release a new album early 2012.

Unlike their debut, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, in which the two portrayed themselves as Southern pimps, many songs on ATLiens feature more unconventional subject matter for hip hop. It also has a notably more laid-back, spacey production sound, which they would continue to a certain extent on their follow-up album Aquemini. Two-thirds of the album is produced by Organized Noize, OutKast's primary production team. The rest is produced by Earthtone III, a production team that includes OutKast themselves and Mr. DJ..
Largely abandoning the hard-partying playa characters of their debut, Dre and Big Boi develop a startlingly fresh, original sound to go along with their futuristic new personas. George Clinton's space obsessions might seem to make P-Funk obvious musical source material, but ATLiens ignores the hard funk in favor of a smooth, laid-back vibe that perfectly suits the duo's sense of melody. The album's chief musical foundation is still soul, especially the early-'70s variety, but other influences begin to pop up as well. The Organized Noize production team frequently employs the spacious mixes and echo effects of dub reggae in creating the album's alien soundscapes. In addition to the striking musical leap forward, Dre and Big Boi continue to grow as rappers; their flows are getting more tongue-twistingly complex, and their lyrics more free-associative. The album broke new ground for Southern hip-hop and marked OutKast as one of the most creatively restless and ambitious hip-hop groups of the '90s.

Speakerboxxx/The Love Below represented a departure from Outkast's previous work. First of all, the album worked as two albums on a single set, with the first (Speakerboxxx) working as a Big Boi solo project and the second (The Love Below) as an André solo album. Although both albums have their own distinct character, by isolating themselves from each other, Big Boi and Andre 3000 diminish the idea of OutKast slightly, since the focus is on the individuals, not the group. Which, of course, is part of the point of releasing solo albums under the group name -- it's to prove that the two can exist under the umbrella of the OutKast aesthetic while standing as individuals. The two albums do prove that the music can be solo in execution but remain OutKast records through and through. Both records are visionary, imaginative listens, providing some of the best music of 2003, regardless of genre. The album is OutKast's biggest commercial success yet, having debuted on the Billboard 200 albums chart at number-one and stayed there for several weeks, it eventually sold over five million copies.
From the moment Speakerboxxx kicks into gear with "GhettoMusick" and its relentless blend of old-school 808s and breakneck breakbeats, it's clear that Boi is ignoring boundaries, and the rest of his album follows suit. It's grounded firmly within hip-hop, but the beats bend against the grain and the arrangements are overflowing with ideas and thrilling, unpredictable juxtapositions.

The Love Below isn't so much visionary as it is unapologetically eccentric. And as the cocktail jazz pianos that sparkle through the first few songs indicate, it's not much of a hip-hop album. Instead, Andre 3000 has created the great lost Prince album -- the platter that the Purple One recorded somewhere between Around the World in a Day and Sign 'o' the Times. It's not just that the music and song titles cheekily recall Prince it's that Dre disregards any rules on a quest to create his own interior world, right down to a dialogue with God. Meanwhile a cheerfully randy spirit surges through The Love Below, even on the spooky-serious closer, "A Life in the Day of Benjamin Andre," and it gives Andre the freedom to try a little of everything, from mock crooning to the strange one-man funk of "Roses" and the incandescent "Hey Ya!," where classic soul and electro-funk coexist happily. Both records are very different, but the remarkable thing is, they both feel thoroughly like OutKast music. Big Boi and Andre 3000 took off in different directions from the same starting point, yet they wind up sounding unified because they share the same freewheeling aesthetic, where everything is alive and everything is possible within their music.

Hello, today the 41st post of GoldyRhox, classic pop rock, in the darklight a UK group that were likely the most highly regarded of the music scene at the time, expectations for todays mystery album were sky high at the time and even though they got some platinum less and they had changed their musical ways rather dramatically, by now the album is considered one of the best of this last decade, unprecedented indeed, producing back to back albums of the decade (90's & 00's)
This later remaster came with a bonus live album, to oblige i added an ogg 9 version of it.
***** ***** ***** ***** *****
Most of the albums i 'll post made many millions for the music industry and a lot of what i intend to post still gets repackaged and remastered decades later, squeezing the last drop of profit out of bands that for the most part have ceased to exist long ago, although sometimes they get lured out of the mothballs to do a big bucks gig or tour. Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accomodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.
Todays mystery album was released 11 years and 11 days ago, it was the follow up to the highly successful breakthru album, this album would score some platinum around the world aswell, even as at the time reviews were somewhat subdued as the band broke somewhat with the previous sound, specially the falsetto singing was left behind (thankfully, personally that had kept me from really appreciating them) and electronics were brought to the fore. The album has been considered one of the most challenging pop records to have commercial success, meanwhile it's been named as the best album of the naughties by Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and The Times.. The album won a Grammy for Best Alternative Album that year as well. Considering that in line with their singers new musical direction, the band members began to experiment with different instruments, and to learn "how to be a participant in a song without playing a note".The rest of the band gradually grew to share his passion for synthesized sounds
The band and their fans had a large Internet presence by the late 1990s. As a result, Parlophone (UK) and Capitol Records (US) marketed the album in an unconventional way, promoting it partly through the Internet. A month before its release, the finished album appeared on Napster. In response, "it encourages enthusiasm for music in a way that the music industry has long forgotten to do."Estimates suggested Kid A was downloaded without payment millions of times before its worldwide release. Nevertheless when it was released it entered at No 1 in the UK, US, Canada, France, Ireland and New Sealand.

RhoDeo 1141 Aetix
Hello, Aetix is still at that great southern land, a country that produces the most sports champions per capita, not taking in account wintersports which are dominated by the Norwegians, so what do they have in common..well can i say Vikingblood ? Seriously, it makes one wonder there would be any room for a music scene to develop, well there was and it goes to show how versatile we as humans are.
One should think that Australians are proud of their achievements yet theirs is a conservative world or maybe i should call it ego-country where talk of sharing is frowned upon, and the original dwellers, the Aboriginals, that have lived there for 40,000 years (!) are still considered incompetent..go figure. Yes respect has increased as the influence of (evil) religion has diminished but understanding ? I doubt it. The mirror to western wastefulness and materialism is just too hard to accept.
To the music of today a band that came together on some shared values of love of boozed up rock'n roll, blues and punk and stayed together (more or less) for a decade to produce a handful of albums most of which are present here and will have you taste the atmosphere of Australias pubs and the viking way of camaraderie, in short The Beasts Of Bourbon.
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
The Beasts of Bourbon's music has often been compared to that of a rougher Rolling Stones (whose 'Cocksucker Blues' they covered), The Gun Club (who they played with and who some Beasts filled in for) and The Birthday Party. In Germany, the band were described as 'Muddy Waters on crack'. Their music is a tough amalgam of country music, blues, rock and roll and punk parsed through the garage sound of The Stooges and the drunken mayhem of Australian pub rock. It often touches on themes of depravity, morbidity, despair, drug abuse and violence. In short an excellent karaoke soundtrack.
The group were initially thrown together by vocalist Tex Perkins to fulfill a booking his previous band. The initial version of the group included Spencer P. Jones, Boris Sudjovic and Kim Salmon of The Scientists and James Baker of The Hoodoo Gurus, recruited in large part because they were often found in the Southern Cross, an inner-city Sydney bar. This lineup was featured on the band's first album, The Axeman's Jazz, recorded in 1984 in a single afternoon for one hundred dollars by Tony Cohen. The album was an excursion into deranged Gothic country and western, although the album became an underground success, the band continued, for the time being, to be just a side project for its members until 1987. The original line-up reunited in 1987, to record another album, Sour Mash in 1988. The swamp-rock of The Axeman's Jazz had given way to a fusion of blues-based pub rock and punk with great effect. Black Milk, recorded in 1990, expanded on this idea.
The band grew particularly confident and powerful while touring Europe on the back of Sour Mash In 1991, Baker and Sujdovic left to be replaced by Brian Hooper and Tony Pola - the bassist and drummer of Kim Salmon's new band, The Surrealists. This line-up recorded the highly popular album The Low Road in 1991. The band disintegrated in Europe while touring to support the album. A double album of live tracks and rarities, titled The Belly of the Beasts - Live '91 & '92 and shit we didn't put out the first time was released to mark the group's ten years together, and the group toured extensively in support of the album. Following the tour, it appeared as if the Beasts would announce their demise.
In 97 Gone was released to a luke warm reception, since a live album and occasional concerts have been played, however dec 06 a new album ‘Little Animals’ was announced for 2007.
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
The first sonic blast from this Austral indie supergroup was recorded in one afternoon by members of the Scientists (Kim Salmon, Boris Sujdovic, and James Baker), Salamander Jim (Tex Perkins and Salmon), the Hoodoo Gurus (Baker), and the Johnnys (Spencer Jones). They were influenced by Hank Williams, the Rolling Stones and the Cramps. The group wasn't necessarily meant to lead to a career, but for several of the musicians most notably Perkins it has. Considering how little time was actually spent on recording it, The Axeman's Jazz is a surprisingly accomplished debut, an energetic collection of grungy swamp rock with a side of countrified blues.

The Axeman's Jazz had become a springboard for much later success as a full-time working band. In 1988, the group released Sour Mash, which was a dream come true for fans of the Australian rock and garage punk that fused the sensibilities of their disparate groups to great success and marked the transition to full-time concern for the group members. With the Johnnys and Scientists both calling it a day just prior to Sour Mash, the collective creative forces were pooled to make the Beasts of Bourbon's landmark in which remains their prime document. A raw blues-rock album with post-punk afflictions, the band was often compared to the Birthday Party, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, and the Surrealists. Although, maybe that similarity is only extra evident due to sharing producer Tony Cohen, who hand shaped some of the best Australian rock albums of the '80s and '90s. With the enigmatic Tex Perkins, who could be one of rock & roll's last great frontmen, and the blistering slide-guitar-driven sound, the band does a fine job of re-creating the sound of a twisted night out at the pub. The Beasts certainly have stakes on a claim to the phrase "desert rock" on this outing, which has Kim Salmon's trademark guitar twang all over it.

By the early '90s, two of the Beasts of Bourbon's key members -- James Baker and Boris Sudjovic -- had left the group to be replaced by Tony Pola and Brian Hooper, who are also both members of guitarist Kim Salmon's project, the Surrealists. It left the group with a straighter, less garage punk sound that resembles more the direction taken by Tex Perkins with the Cruel Sea later in the '90s. With this new lineup, the Australian rock supergroup enlisted producer Tony Cohen, an engineer best known for his exceptional production work with Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and the Birthday Party. Despite his awesome skills with capturing sound, it proved a little tough to get the live energy of a performance to tape. Following the release and touring of The Low Road, members went on to pursue greater things with their separate groups, Kim Salmon with his Surrealists and Tex Perkins with the Cruel Sea. Beasts of Bourbon never officially split, but at this point reverted back to part-time concern for all the groups members, which was in fact the way that they conceived their greatest work as a an ad-hoc side project.

Hello, we're still on that island with a huge place in the global music catalog, Jamaica. A production hothouse and they say the Weed makes you slow and lazy-go figure. Without the ganja driven reggae music Jamaica would have remained a Caribbean backwater and dare i say would never have given us Bolt, the fastest man in the world.
The Jamaican music hotbed shows what can happen if creativity is set free (mindexpanding weed) and left to it's own (de)vices, hundreds of artists, dozens of producers and a handful of studios created an enormous output unrivaled per capita. Only now with the freeing of production costs are we seeing anything like it in the west. Ok so today it's toasters/deejay time with a producer/musician, Augustus Pablo and the man who put toasting on the map, U Roy
***** ***** ***** ***** *****
Horace Swaby (June 21, 1954 – May 18, 1999), a committed Rastafarian, better known as Augustus Pablo, was a reggae and dub record producer, melodica player and keyboardist, active from the 1970s onwards. He popularized the use of the melodica in reggae music. He was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica and learned to play the organ at the Kingston College School. It was at that point an unnamed girl lent him the melodica. Fascinated by the instrument, Pablo rarely put it down.Swaby recorded early tracks including "Higgi Higgi", "East of the River Nile", "Song of the East", and "The Red Sea" between 1971 and 1973 for Chin-Loy's Aquarius Records.
"East of the River Nile", a unique blend of East Asian and Jamaican sounds, became a moderate hit. He soon joined Now Generation (Mikey Chung's band) and played the keyboard with them while his friend Clive Chin began his own career as a record producer. Pablo and Chin recorded "Java" (1972) together. This instrumental was a massive hit and launched Pablo's solo career. He recorded with Chin and various others, including Lee Perry. He scored another smash hit with "My Desire" (John Holt).
Pablo formed the labels Hot Stuff, Message and Rockers (named after his brother's soundsystem, Rockers), and released a steady stream of well-received instrumentals, mostly versions of older hits from Studio One. Pablo's 1974 album, This Is Augustus Pablo was recorded with Clive and Pat Chin. This was followed by a collaboration with the legendary reggae engineer King Tubby, 1975's Ital Dub. In the later 1970s, Pablo produced a steady stream of hits, this period was eventually commemorated with critically acclaimed LPs including King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown (1976) and Hugh Mundell's classic Africa Must be Free by 1983. This was followed by East of the River Nile (1978), Original Rockers (1979) and Rockers Meets King Tubby in a Firehouse, another acclaimed hit album.
In the 1980s, Pablo's career slowed significantly. In 1980, he appeared on the soundtrack of the documentary D.O.A. He had begun to establish an American audience and released Rising Sun in 1986 to good reviews and sales. Pablo also produced memorable hits, in addition, he toured extensively throughout the world, making a memorable live album in Tokyo in 1987. That same year, Rockers Come East re-established his career and he began to release a series of critically acclaimed though somewhat inaccessible albums in the 1990s, including Blowing With the Wind and also producing several.
Augustus Pablo died as a result of a collapsed lung on 18 May 1999. He had been suffering for some time from the nerve disorder Myasthenia gravis.

U-Roy (born Ewart Beckford, 21 September 1942, Jones Town, Jamaica), also known as The Originator. His musical career began in 1961 when he began deejaying at various sound systems. This included a stint operating Sir Coxsone Dodd's Number Two set, while King Stitt "The Ugly One" ran the main set. U-Roy eventually worked with King Tubby at Duke Reid's Sound System in the late 1960s. Around this period, King Tubby had started to experiment with his studio equipment in an attempt to create new effects and sounds, which would eventually lead to a new style of Reggae called dub music. With U-Roy as his most prominent deejay, King Tubby's new sound became extraordinarily popular and U-Roy a local celebrity.
Calling himself, "your ace from outer space", U-Roy revolutionized the musical style of reggae in 1969. Even though U-Roy was not the first microphone artist, he was the first to gain recognition through recording this style. U-Roy popularized and gained a wider audience for "toasting"; rapping over "versions" of popular songs remixed by King Tubby. Considered one of Jamaica's first Deejay stars, "U-Roy raised the art of toasting to new heights.
U-Roy's success continued throughout the 1970s, perhaps most famously with the album Dread in a Babylon, produced by "Prince" Tony Robinson and propelled by the album's skank smash hit "Runaway Girl". By the early 1980s he had become one of Jamaica's biggest stars, also garnering significant acclaim in the United Kingdom.

RhoDeo 1141 Illuminatus 8th trip
Hello, fans of the Illuminati ! series will be glad the show continues today, as it happens the last episode concluded the third book, Confusion, today then we open book 4, Bureaucracy which may sound less ominous then the previous books, Chaos, Discord and Confusion but is it really ? Bureaucracy can be a real killer of the human spirit. Well, we'll find out soon enough, starting of with the 8th trip, Hod chapters 1 till 3.
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
Enjoy the Trips!
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Sundaze 1141 Yes I'm back
Hello, yes i'm back, Thursday evening my connection was restored. Insane stuff, first i paid the wrong bill, then after i paid the right one for some mysterious reason my ISP didn't reconnect though by the 30th they had been paid in full, fortunately one of the few service centers they have is a 15 min walk, so when i dropped in for the second time last Thursday they restored my , Internet ,TV and phone.
Meanwhile my CRT TV gave up the ghost, i suspect that 16/9 digital signal had become too much for it, so no TV still, I ordered a combi monitor/tv as i don't watch that much TV anyway, a few days from now I'll get it in my face right here at my desk. Obviously not a huge screen, but i think TV size is as dick size, highly overrated ! Do you know that some think "the Greys" are us from the future, must be those large TV eyes. Mind you i think the Greys are from elsewhere, doing research, they did however scare off other aliens on this planet that had played God here for a very very long time, unfortunately their nasty legacy still festers on as billions still worship Jahweh and Allah (same creep btw). Admittedly they did bring us ahead of nature's schedule and we'd likely be still hunter gatherers if they hadn't had a need for our slave labor. What can i say " the true Creator moves in mysterious ways , way beyond anything we can grasp from our limited 3D perspective".
Time for todays music, one of the founders of the ambient genre, he was at it before synthesizers became available and his first album doesn't have any but still became a landmark for the whole scene, 1971's Irrlicht by Klaus Schulze. I met him once during the build up of a show and afterwards as i speak German reasonably well, rather introverted person, but i guess he speaks with his music and over the past 40 years he's released 100+ albums mostly solo. I'm still considering how many Sundaze's will be posted with him center stage at least one other but likely more in the weeks/months to come.

As both a solo artist and as a member of groups including Tangerine Dream and Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze emerged among the founding fathers of contemporary electronic music, his epic, meditative soundscapes a key influence on the subsequent rise of the new age aesthetic. Born in Berlin on August 4, 1947, Schulze began his performing career during the 1960s, playing guitar, bass and drums in a variety of local bands; by 1969, he was drumming in Tangerine Dream, appearing a year later on their debut LP Electronic Meditation. The album was Schulze's lone effort with the group, however, as he soon co-founded Ash Ra Tempel with Manuel Gottsching and Harmut Enke, debuting in 1971 with a self-titled record; again, however, the band format appeared to stifle Schulze, and he mounted a solo career a few months later.
as a solo artist he quickly became more reflective; although he acquired his first synthesizer in 1972, it did not enter into his solo debut Irrlicht, its long, droning pieces instead assembled from electronic organ, oscillators and orchestral recordings. The double album Cyborg followed in 1973, and a year later he issued Blackdance. Timewind, regarded by many as Schulze's masterpiece, appeared in 1974. Around that same time he began producing prog-rockers the Far East Family Band; the group's keyboardist, Kitaro, frequently cited Schulze as the central influence behind his own plunge into the world of synths and electronics.
In 1976, he was drafted by Japanese percussionist and composer Stomu Yamashta to join his short-lived "supergroup" Go, also featuring Steve Winwood, Michael Shrieve and Al Di Meola. They released two studio albums (Go in 1976 and Go Too in 1977) and one live album ("Live from Paris") which went on to become a cult favorite. Throughout the 1970s he followed closely in the footsteps of Tangerine Dream, albeit with far lighter sequencer lines and a more reflective, dreamy edge, not unlike the ambient music of his contemporary Brian Eno.

Schulze's solo debut is a masterful album featuring some of the most majestic instances of space music ever recorded, all the more remarkable for being recorded without synthesizers. The album's complete title is: Irrlicht: Quadrophonische Symphonie für Orchester und E-Maschinen ("Will-o'-the-wisp: Quadraphonic Symphony for Orchestra and Electronic Machines"). Its atmospheric drone music tone is similar to Tangerine Dream's album Zeit (released the same month) as it stemmed from a common idea that Schulze and Froese couldn't agree on and parted ways over. Schulze mainly used a broken and modified electric organ, a recording of a classical orchestra rehearsal played backward, and a damaged amplifier to filter and alter sounds that he mixed on tape into a three-movement symphony.

From the early days of electronic experimentation in the pop field, Klaus Schulze's second solo album still today stands as one of the most powerful examples of ambient pulse music ever conceived. The dense layers of rhythm and synthetic tone colors melt into a seamless, flowing soundscape of melody, motion and spatial effects. It's a monumental double album of "cosmic music."

Dedicated to Richard Wagner, Timewind is a 60-minute electronic expedition that is broken up into two half-hour tracks, "Bayreuth Return" and "Wahnfried 1883," it's Schulze's first album using a sequencer.Evolving slowly but deliberately over the course of the of each album side, Timewind has been deemed an electronic version of an Indian raga. The first 30 minutes involves icy pulsations and lengthy tonal flights that unnoticeably converge into each other. While one rhythm gains momentum, the other one slowly fades into a bubbly electronic bath of bright swirls and meandering keyboard waves. Similar to early Tangerine Dream, the music here rises and falls above a distant sonic horizon, and the effect is truly mesmerizing. One specific flow can last for minutes, while small, detailed noises adhere themselves to the main electronic run. On the second track, more of the same far-off synthesized altering takes place, but the washes of keyboard become inoculated with a sharper, more precise sound. Longer notes build into resilient pieces with the same comforting result. This album will sketch a barren wasteland in the mind through the wispiness of the wind-like effects. Timewind serves as splendid mood music, and the ears are forever kept busy following Schulze's electronic wandering.

Today's artist singer, musician, composer, and rebel Peter Tosh cut a swathe through the Jamaican musical scene, both as a founding member of the Wailers and as a solo artist. He toured with the Rolling Stones and was shot dead by a low life he previously had tried to help.
Those that live of his legacy have ordered me to take down this page sigh...

Illuminatus 1138 The Golden Apple 7
Hello, on the brink of another exiting week at the global banks casino, who's going to be stuck with the hot potato (Greece), make no mistake the Americans are deep into that, as they've been underwriting a lot of that bad debt, an enormous pressure is applied via the back channels mainly, but finance minister Geithner came in person to tell the Europeans to swallow that hot potato themselves. Germany however is still angry over the billions that were stolen by Wall Street in 2008 and is in no mood to bail out the American underwriters. All the propaganda in the press about the dire consequences if Greece gets dropped is a nonsense rumor spread by the banksters to get them bailed out once more.

Hello, hope you all have a good weekend and are looking for a somewhat mind expanding finale to the weekend. Spacetime Continuum will take that task upon themselves here. Themselves is plural for one multitalented man, Jonah Sharp, during the nineties he released 4 albums , 10 12" and a compilation, not much was heard of him musically until in 2009 he returned as Reagenz (a collaboration with Move D) and released a well received Playtime.
Todays musix is both in ogg and flac and i point you here to the alien dreamtime album i posted 4 years ago it's available in flac too right here !

Ambient techno innovator Jonah Sharp has recorded several albums and EPs as Spacetime Continuum and played an important role in consolidating the San Francisco experimental ambient and techno scenes through his Reflective imprint. A London native and an acid jazz drummer before embarking on his career in electronic music, Sharp was an in-demand session drummer until the rigours of the club scene and the mawkish obsolescence of the genre had him experimenting with other styles. Going onto ambient and techno as a DJ, Sharp was a founding member of the periodic Spacetime parties, held in a hologram factory in London and hosted early ambient luminaries.
Sharp left London for America in the early '90s, settling in San Francisco, where he established his Reflective label and recorded the bulk of his work to date. Although that work has been split over a number of different project headings (Emit Ecaps, Alien Community, Reagenz, Electro Harmonix, and others), his most consistently visible work has been as Spacetime Continuum. Sharp signed a non-exclusive multi-album deal with Astralwerks in 1992 and released his first full-length work -- a live recording of a collaboration with visionary author Terrence McKenna and didgeridoo player Stephen Kent -- Alien Dreamtime
The largely ambient Sea Biscuit followed in 1994, and was released through the Fax label in Europe (Sharp has recorded a number of collaborative projects for Fax). Emit Ecaps, released in early 1996, returned to Sharp's dancefloor roots, incorporating elements of techno. It also spawned a remix album, Remit Recaps, featuring work by Autechre, Plaid, and others. In addition to a smattering of Sharp-related releases (including the collectible Flurescence EP), the Reflective label issued albums by Subtropic, Velocette, Kid Spatula (aka Mike Paradinas), and Single Cell Orchestra, as well as a stream of 12-inches. The next Spacetime Continuum full-length, Double Fine Zone, appeared in 1999.
He had recorded the first eponymous album, 'Reagenz' in 1994 after meeting David Moufang (Move D) before an Autechre show in San Francisco. In May 2008 they met up again, having not seen each other for 13 years, in Tokyo (again at an Autechre show!) and managed to spend productive days in a studio owned by a Japanese analog synth collector. They did another session in Heidelberg and David also visited Jonah in early 2009, finalizing "Playtime" .
Jonah Sharp has also released collaborations with Tetsu Inoue, Bill Laswell, Mixmaster Morris, Pete Namlook, David Moufang, and Plaid. He has remixed songs from Nine Inch Nails, Meat Beat Manifesto, Ponga, Teknostep, Susumu Yokota, and Matt Herbert. He has produced songs for Ursula Rucker and Paradise Boys. In addition to music production and remixing, he is a DJ. His work has had a clear influence on contemporary psybient artists, such as Shpongle and others.

Sharp's first album-length solo work is full of expansive, fluffy environments, a bit sugary at times and with a tendency to go nowhere in particular. Interesting, engulfing arrangements place, it's beauty, soulfullness and genius makes it an outstanding piece of sound scape. Listened to on mushrooms it borders on enlightenment!

Jonah Sharp's second studio album keeps much of the atmospheric beauty of Sea Biscuit intact, but the material usually works only as an introduction to devastating beat work on tracks like "Kairo" and "Funkyar," both of which recall the chunkier side of electro quite convincingly. Hello, i made it, despite my connection going down for an hour and later during uploading dropping out, i managed to get today's 1.3 gig of Cypress Hill out there in flac and ogg, now aren't you all lucky. I don't know how many of you have found out by now that the Multiuploadlink though not always there as one of the options, if it is, it's a fast speed, no waiting choice.
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
The original incarnation of Cypress Hill, formed in 1986 when Cuban-born brothers Sen Dog (born Senen Reyes, November 20, 1965) and Mellow Man Ace hooked up with fellow Los Angeles residents Muggs (born Lawrence Muggerud, January 28, 1968) and B Real (born Louis Freese, June 2, 1970). The group began pioneering a fusion of Latin and hip-hop slang, developing their own style by the time Mellow Man Ace left the group in 1988. Renaming themselves Cypress Hill after a local street, the group continued to perform around L.A., eventually signing with Ruffhouse/Columbia in 1991.
Cypress Hill were notable for being the first Latino hip-hop superstars, but they became notorious for their endorsement of marijuana, which actually isn't a trivial thing (in the US) . Not only did the group campaign for its legalization, but their slow, rolling bass-and-drum loops pioneered a new, stoned funk that became extraordinary influential in '90s hip-hop — it could be heard in everything from Dr. Dre's G-funk to the chilly layers of English trip-hop. DJ Muggs crafted the sound, and B Real, with his pinched, nasal voice, was responsible for the rhetoric that made them famous. The pro-pot position became a little ridiculous over time, but there was no denying that the actual music had a strange, eerie power, particularly on the band's first two albums.
With its stoned beats, and cartoonish violence, the group's eponymous debut became a sensation in early 1992, several months after its initial release. The group's public pro-marijuana stance earned them many fans among the alternative rock community. Cypress Hill followed the album with Black Sunday in the summer of 1993, and while it sounded remarkably similar to the debut, it nevertheless became a hit, entering the album charts at number one and spawning the crossover hit "Insane in the Brain." With Black Sunday, Cypress Hill's audience became predominantly white, collegiate suburbanites, which caused them to lose some support in the hip-hop community. The group didn't help matters much in 1995, toured with the fifth Lollapalooza prior to the release of their third album, Temples of Boom. A darker, gloomier affair than their first two records, Temples of Boom was greeted with mixed reviews upon its fall 1995 release.
Cypress Hill slowly fell apart. Sen Dog left in early 1996 and Muggs spent most of the year working on his solo album. Muggs Presents the Soul Assassins was released to overwhelmingly positive reviews in early 1997, leaving Cypress Hill's future in much doubt until the release of IV in 1998. Sen Dog had come back for the record. Two years later, the group released the double-disc set Skull & Bones, which featured a disc of hip-hop and a disc of their more rock-inspired material. Appropriately, the album also included rock and rap versions of the single "Superstar," bringing Cypress Hill's quest for credibility and crossover hits full circle. In the winter of 2001, the group came back with Stoned Raiders, another album to incorporate rock music. Three years later, the band issued Till Death Do Us Part, which incorporated several styles of Jamaican music. In 2010 they announced their signing to Priority Records thanks to the label’s creative director, Snoop Dogg. The label released their eighth studio album, Rise Up, that same year.

It's hard enough to transform an entire musical genre -- Cypress Hill's eponymous debut album revolutionized hip-hop in several respects. Along with Beastie Boys and Public Enemy, Cypress Hill were also one of the first rap groups to bridge the gap with fans of both hard rock and alternative rock. And, most importantly, they created a sonic blueprint that would become one of the most widely copied in hip-hop. In keeping with their promarijuana stance, Cypress Hill intentionally crafted their music to sound stoned -- lots of slow, lazy beats, fat bass, weird noises, and creepily distant-sounding samples. The sound and style of Cypress Hill was hugely influential, particularly on Dr. Dre's boundary-shattering 1992 blockbuster The Chronic; yet despite its legions of imitators, Cypress Hill still sounds fresh and original today, simply because few hip-hop artists can put its sound across with such force of personality or imagination.

Black Sunday made Cypress Hill's connection to rock & roll more explicit, with its heavy metal-like artwork and noisier, more dissonant samples.. It's a slightly darker affair than its groundbreaking predecessor, with the threats of violence more urgent and the pot obsession played to the hilt. Apart from those subtle distinctions, the sound of Black Sunday is pretty much the same as Cypress Hill, refining the group's innovations into an accessible bid for crossover success. Black Sunday still sounds vital and lively, it's overall a consistent, engaging listen, especially the flawless first half or so.

Ten years after the release of their first album, Cypress Hill have maintained a distinctive personality that has stuck around through several different musical directions. Never a band that has been afraid to experiment, the rock-rap sound they attempted on Skull & Bones is again one of the driving forces of the album. DJ Muggs and live drummer Bobo do a meticulous job of finding unique beats for the record. "Kronologik" is a spellbinding retelling of Cypress Hill's history that adds some clever insight into some of the notable events in their career. But many of the other rap songs simply do not have the beats or the choruses to keep them interesting, a problem that would seem unthinkable considering how incredibly unique and catchy their first two albums are. Overall, Stoned Raiders is a good album despite its varying quality, and should appeal to those who enjoyed their previous album's experiments with rock.

RhoDeo 1137 Goldy Rhox 40
Hello, today the 40th post of GoldyRhox, classic pop rock, in the darklight a US group that slowly build an audience and scored their first gold album with their 5th album, with their 7th (todays mystery album) they started a run of 4 multiple platinum albums. Being a bit of a prog rocker at the time (mid seventies) i already scored most of their vinyl before their big breakthrough and let them go after their '78 8th album, music by that time had moved on for me.
Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accommodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.
Todays mystery album was released 7/7/77, hardly an accident then, as it turned out it proved to bring good fortune to a band who under this moniker had released 6 albums in the 5 years before, and considering the core of the band had been making music together since 1961 these guys knew what they were doing. Progrock isn't something that Americans use as a label, perceived as too intellectual, and lyrics that imply thinking aren't called for. Remarkably todays band broke through at all, i guess the excellent guitarwork made them easier to label as hard rock, but these guys certainly weren't hardrock. Consider these deeply unamerican lyrics " so if you think your life is complete confusion, 'cause your neighbor's got it made, just remember that it's a grand illusion, and deep inside we're all the same". I suppose those were different days and the sixties still near. The album scored 3 hits and still sounds remarkably fresh. The name of the band is taken from the line (river) that separates life and death (the way the Greeks saw it).

Hello, todays Aetix stays at that great southern land . But first something about flac i note an increasing appetite for that format when i offer a choice, whether i give a choice depends on the size of the flac i post. Believe it or not flac is far faster to code then ogg (the way i do it) as a rule of thumb Files below 250mb won't be coded in Ogg.
The name of todays band reflects L.P. Hartley's classic novel, The Go-Between. They were a critics favorite but never made the commercial breakthrough in exchange they kept their integrity and wrote and played great music together upon the sudden death of Grant McLennan half of the duo that formed the core of The Go-Betweens
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
Robert Forster and Grant McLennan began as a pair of teenagers obsessed with the earthy rock of Dylan, CCR, and the Velvet Underground and encouraged by the Australian punk of the Saints. As collected on The Able Label Singles, their first two singles show a fondness for scruffy, British Invasion/new wave-influenced pop/rock. The Go-Betweens were perhaps the quintessential cult band of the '80s: they came from an exotic locale (Brisbane, Australia), moved to a major recording center (in their case, London) in a sustained bid to make a career out of music, and earned considerable critical praise and a small but fervent international fan base.
The band's first official album, Send Me a Lullaby, produced by The Go-Betweens and Tony Cohen, on Missing Link in Australia, was released as an eight-track mini-album in November 1981. Rough Trade, released the album in the UK, three months later, with four tracks added.Morrison provided the album title, in preference to Two Wimps and a Witch, from a Zelda Fitzgerald novel Save Me the Waltz. The group had developed a subtler sound consisting of dry semi-spoken vocals, complex lyrics and melodic but fractious guitar pop
The Go-Betweens returned to UK and recorded their second album, Before Hollywood (May 1983), with John Brand producing. It established them as cult favourites while "Cattle and Cane" was released as a single and was "arguably the band's absolute highlight of its earliest years". The Go-Betweens were mostly ignored by Australian commercial pop radio and never gained a broad national audience.
Robert Vickers joined on bass guitar in late 1983—freeing McLennan for lead guitar work. Their next album Spring Hill Fair (September 1984) was acclaimed as "the sound was bolder and more confident. Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express, released in March 1986 on Beggars Banquet Records, received favourable reviews, and showed the band gradually moving towards a smoother and more contemporary sound, while retaining elements of their idiosyncratic early style.
Amanda Brown on violin, oboe, guitar, keyboards and backing vocals joined later in the year. Within a few months, Brown and McLennan were lovers—many of McLennan's new lyrics were about this relationship. Tallulah (June 1987), produced by The Go-Betweens contained their "most winsome and hummable songs,
16 Lovers Lane (1988), was the group's most commercial offering, providing the alternative radio hit "Streets of Your Town", which became the band's biggest chart hit in both the UK and Australia peaking in the Top 100. The follow-up single "Was There Anything I Could Do?" was a No. 16 hit on US Modern Rock radio stations. These minimal successes were hardly the hoped-for commercial breakthrough for the band, and after recording six albums, Forster and McLennan disbanded The Go-Betweens in December 1989.
Although the Go-Betweens were absent throughout the '90s before re-forming in the new millennium, both of the band's songwriters embarked on respectable solo careers in the interim.
In 2000 the band reunited and released a new album, The Friends of Rachel Worth, which also featured all three members of Sleater-Kinney. It wasn't just a fluke, as the band recorded follow-up albums released in 2003 (Bright Yellow Bright Orange) and 2005's Oceans Apart, winning an ARIA award for 'Best Adult Contemporary Album. Documenting a 2005 concert in their hometown, the DVD/CD package That Striped Sunlight Sound arrived in early 2006, just a few months before the death of McLennan on 6 May 2006 of a heart attack, Robert Forster subsequently announced that The Go-Betweens were no more. Forster has continued to perform and records as a solo artist and has also produced well-received music criticism.

The first official album from the Go-Betweens, after a slew of earlier recordings and initial singles, was described by Forster and McLennan in later years as sounding like a practice room session, "metallic folk in a way." It's a fair assessment, and certainly while it's the work of a young band, Send Me a Lullaby is still a promising start, showing that the original trio had an aesthetic and the talent to carry its work over an album's length. Notably the singing of Forster and McLennan, investing even the sharpest songs and most cutting rhythms with a sometimes desperate and sometimes withdrawn emotion. Rather than sounding like they're trying to recodify rock and roll or the like, it's a series of often gentle explorations in restraint, saying more with less.

The Go-Betweens hit full creative stride on their second LP, Before Hollywood, an uncompromising, beautiful and consistently inventive slice of darkly-lit anti-pop. Headed by two gifted songwriters, Robert Forster and Grant McLennan, each of whom pulled the band in different thematic directions, one of the most striking things about Before Hollywood is the way it all coheres so seamlessly together, achieving, in the process, a sustained and unconventionally melodic attack on pop music paradigms. While "Cattle and Cane," is certainly deserving of all the attention it gets as one of the best songs of the decade, it makes it easy to overlook just how consistently brilliant the entirety of Before Hollywood actually is.

Tallulah, the Go-Betweens fifth album, was supposed to be the band's breakthrough recording in America. That said, its sound is nearly a full-on break with the edginess that began to fade on 1986's Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express. More lush, rounded, polished, it sounds like a record made in the mid-'80s thanks in large part to Lindy Morrison's use of drum programs in addition to her trap kit. Add to this the contributions of new member Amanda Brown on violin, oboe, and backing vocals and one has a revamped band. Fans didn't take to the new sound with kindness initially, but the songwriting of Forster and McLennan was so much more focused and taut, it more than compensates for production errors. Along with Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express and 16 Lovers Lane, Tallulah makes up the trilogy that defines the Go-Betweens massive if under-recognized contribution to pop.
