Stage 24, Finland Linux ed.

Stage 24 still in Finland, well as i announced last time i wanted to say some more about the Linux operating system, that started out as the brainchild of Linus Torvalds , meanwhile this has become a global platform , where development takes place all over the world . Linux is open source that means every sourcecode is shared, everybody who wants to, can work on and with it. In the old days this was a geek toy/ world but those days are gone, not only that, Windows poor software has trained many a user in getting deeper into the workings of computers.

Nowadays there's many different flavors(distros)) of Linux and this is undoubtely confusing for a casual observer, however from this competition benefits development and these days the average user is targeted with an alternative desktop environment, you want 3d it's been there from some of the builders for more then a year now.
The probems of the past with drivers have been solved for most hardware. There's no reason whatsoever why you shouldnt give Linux a try, just download and burn to get a 'Live' disk which lets you run/try without installing anything .

You cant have missed Microsoft pushing its new OS Vista, well let me tell you its not only expensive, it basicly turns you into a user with them as administrator, yes Microsoft will control your computer-if you are on line- , it will actively block or distort illegal content, disengage drivers, etc , in fact what Microsoft is saying to its customers is simple..we know you cannot be trusted , so pay up or your Vista will turn into a brick wall.

If there ever was a time to say fuck off to this multinational it is now. Linux is a child of the best humans program at this time, and tomorrow. It is there for all, not to be exploited by greedy men forever hoarding more power and wealth. There's much more to it, i hope to get back to it in the near future. For the moment i offer you some links to check out, myself ive chosen Ubuntu but there's plenty of others.

Ubuntu , an african word meaning "humanity to all others" or "I am what I am because of who we all are "

I found a few great links that helped me out with Ubuntu. Their forums at http://www.ubuntuforums.org/ have a wealth of knowledge. So many of the regular posters are more than happy to help anyone out. They usually answer a new question quickly. Its a great new community I have found. Btw so many Linux distros have excellent communities, which have always been the driving force behind Linux.

Just one more link that I must pass on to everyone. Go here if you install : Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy I followed this guide all the way down the list.. Its a great resource!

The Bomfunk MC's will have you freestyling again. Nightwish have dumped their drama queen and sent her over the hills and far away. Now Tenhi, i think they're great, but then i do have a bit of a northern soul.

Erkki Kurenniemi - Äänityksiä Recordings 1963-1973 ( 02 ^ 333mb)

Erkki Kurenniemi (1941, Hämeenlinna, Finland) is a pioneer of electronic art in Finland, a former nuclear scientist, mathematician and philosphy student who composed computer-based music and designed his own instruments. Kurenniemi was the University of Helskini's resident inventor of electronic instruments, renowned for his technical skills and visionary outlook. His earliest "automated instruments" were quickly snapped up by noted European composers, who marveled at Kurenniemi's ingenuity and built studios around such devices as the Andromatic, the inventor tried his own hand at music in improvised pieces such as 1963's "On - Off," drawing on "sublime" childhood memories of "the turbine hall of the Imatran Voima power plant, where these enormous generators whirred away in a huge hall with fantastic echoing acoustics," while shaping machine feedback through real-time manipulation of knobs and switches back in 1963 !

The exploratory search for new species of user interfaces for musical instruments and the semi-automatic generation of music have been among Kurenniemi's main goals his career. A collection of modular drum and instrumental machines, the Digital Quartet, begat the DICO (digitally controlled oscillator), which in turn begat the DIMI-A (digital musical instrument with associative memory, an early computer-based sampler) and the DIMI-O (a groundbreaking wonder that translated optical (video) input into sound). The latter became a favorite in ballet performances throughout the mid-'70s, finding an unexpected secondary application in psychological research. DIMI-S (also known as the "Sexophone") was able to generate sound and light by contact with the skin, reacting to the emotional state of the performers. Kurenniemi created the first commercially manufactured and marketed microcomputer already in 1973, which was two years before the American MITS Altair 8800. Nowadays many of the Kurenniemi-created instruments are in the possession of Swedish collector Ralph Lundsten, the owner of Andromeda electronic studio. Äänityksiä showcases the DICO, the violin and percussive components of the Digital Quartet in a series of short pieces. And this is where Pan Sonic comes in, as the stark, rubbery rhythm of "Sähkösoittimen ääniä #1" issues from Kurenniemi's drum machine.

Alongside working on media art, happenings , short films and musical career Erkki Kurenniemi has worked as an automation designer pioneering industrial automation at Rosenlew in the seventies, and in Nokia's cable division in the early eighties. As head of exhibition planning at the Heureka Science Centre in 1987-1999, he designed many exhibitions on sound, structures, thinking machines and sensory illusions. He has written several articles on such subjects as artificial intelligence and robotics. In 2002 Finnish film director Mika Taanila made a documentary film on Erkki Kurenniemi, called The Future Is Not What It Used To Be.

Värttinä - Seleniko ( 93 * 313mb)

Värttinä means "spindle," an icon representing women's creativity to the four young women who formed the band in 1983 in a Karelian village near the border of Finland and Russia. Värttinä is Finland's most successful contemporary folk music group, celebrating their twenty-third year with the release of their eleventh album Miero. Värttinä's roots are in the Karelia region of Finland, specifically women's vocal traditions and ancient poems known as runos. Fronted by three female singers and supported by six acoustic musicians, Värttinä composes most of their music and lyrics, based on an ancient Fino-Ugaric tradition of runo poems and tribal sagas, but with a contemporary twist and thoroughly distinctive and original arrangements.

Since 1990, Värttinä has toured internationally and built a solid reputation as one the most inventive and uncompromising ensembles in the contemporary world music arena. Their latest high-profile achievement is the role of co-composer for the stage adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, with the Toronto World Premiere in March 2006 and the London West End premiere in spring 2007. Wiki has a good page on them, well worth checking out, if you want to know more on this Fantastic Finnish Folk group.

Jimi Tenor - Europa ( 95 * 301mb)

Lassi Lehto changed his name to the cooler sounding Jimi Tenor, after his favourite instrument the tenor sax. During 1989-92 Jimi made four albums with his Shamans, a highly uncommercial industrial group. Finland was too small and he went aboad ending up in Berlin, where the last Shaman album was recorded. Subsequently the big apple lured him where he paid the rent as an official souvenir photographer on top of the Empire State Building. His musical style started to develop into a different direction, more relaxed, ironic jazzy stuff.During an European club tour following his second solo album Europa (1995), he was picked up by Warp records. It resulted in the acclaimed Intervision (97), Organism (99) and Out of Nowhere.

After his departure from Warp in autumn 2000, he returned to his original label Sähkö to release the EP Cosmic Relief (2001) followed by the long play Utopian Dream (2001). For his genre-spanning masterpiece Higher Planes (2003) he found a new label, Kitty-Yo. The much anticipated follow-up Beyond the Stars (2004) is a joyful showcase of pure musical happiness. In 2004 Jimi left sunny Barcelona and returned to his hometown Lahti, Finland.

On Europa finds Jimi in an relaxed, somewhat ironic and inpired mood. At the time of release, acid jazz was starting it's succesful if shortlived career, and Europa has some inspirational acid jazz elements, the subtle humor does also help to make this a classic. The loungy moods with relaxed grooves are mixed with furious sax, flute and keyboard solos. The melodies are strong and very memorable, and each song has it's significant feeling. Tenor wrote 11 little soundtracks for imaginairy movies, in this context he scores just fine.

Bomfunk MC's - In Stereo ( 99 * 342mb)

The Bomfunk MC's At the turn of the new Millenium, Finnish sensations The Bomfunk MCs suddenly became big from Manchester to Berlin. The rave stylers of rock beat stormed the charts across the World with their smash hit single, 'Freestyler' - at 2.2 million, the biggest selling European single of the year 2000. Formed in 1997 by rapper B.O.W. (Brother of Words) and vinyl spinner DJ GISMO, The Bomfunk MCs trawled the cultural waters of cool minimalism to produce - with Finnish dance genius Producer/writer JS16 - a seemingly perfect blend of old school flava and wild pop tunes.
"In Stereo" was their first album and they admit the style was reached unconsciously. The album was number 1 in Finland (their native country) and ended up selling more than 800,000 copies, as it reached good entries in many European charts.

At the end of 2001 The Bomfunks unveiled the first single from their 2nd Album "Burnin' Sneakers" , titled 'Super Electric'. The single immediately hit #1 on the Finnish chart, as did their 2nd album. In 2002 commissioned by FIFA they recorded a track for "The Official Music of World Cup Korea-Japan 2002" featuring Sweden's finest Jessica Folker, titled "(Crack It) Something Going On". "Crack It" surely did, charting across Scandinavia - the Bomfunks 7th consecutive Top 10 Single in Sweden, Norway and Finland .
After some personal changes the "new" Bomfunk MCs - Raymond, Wille, Ari, Riku and Okke - aided and abetted by co-founder/Producer/writer JS16 and other regular collaborators like Max'C, released "Reverse Psychology" in the spring of 2005 and seem to have returned to all the usual being; remixers, radio personalities, label chiefs (the Pyssy label!) , record producers and even mobile-phone-gismo designers, not to mention spinning.

Nightwish - Over the Hills and Far Away ( 01 * 368mb)

Nightwish started in an unassuming way as 3 friends ( Tuomas, Tarja and Emppu) played some acoustic mood music together around a summer campfire, wanting to hear what the music would sound like if drums were added (Jukka came to the band) and an electric guitar was used instead of an acoustic one. After a couple of weeks of training they went to studio in April 1997 recorded seven songs which can be found on the limited edition of the album Angels Fall First.
The next year, bass player Sami Vanska joined in. Dec 98 saw the release of Oceanborn, which turned out to be a bigger success than expected, so release and success in the rest of europe followed, late 99 they did a european tour.

During the recording of their 3 rd album Wishmaster spring 2000, Nightwish was chosen by the Fins to represent Finland at the eurovision festival with Sleepwalker, alas the 'experts' forbade it..they obviously no longer have this power, with Lordi representing and winning for Finland in 2006. Well Nightwish didnt really need the eurovision platform, in may Wishmaster went straight to number 1 on the Finnish album charts and stayed on the pole position for three weeks. In those three weeks it also reached the gold disc mark. The "Wishmaster World Tour", which started from Kitee, continued first to the big festivals in Finland and then to South America in July 2000. The three-week tour in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Panama & Mexico turned out to be one of the band's greatest experiences so far.

In March 2001 Nightwish entered the studio again to record their version of Gary Moore`s classic "Over The Hills And Far Away", with 2 new songs and a remake of Angels Fall First's "Astral Romance". The Finnish release for this EP was in June 2001. The european version of "Over The Hills And Far Away" includes 6 live tracks in addition to the 4 unreleased songs
Nightwish's popularity began to grow, reaching its top in 2002, when their album Century Child became a top-seller ( Platinum in two weeks in Finland). In the meantime, bassist Sami Vanska was replaced by the bass player / singer of Tarot, Marco Hietala, who also added some male vocals, the main difference from previous albums was the use of a live orchestra from Finland to get a more present feeling of classical music.

Once was released on June 7, 2004, along with their first single, "Nemo" (Latin for "nobody"). The single topped the charts in Finland and Hungary, and reached the top ten in five additional countries. "Nemo" therefore remains their most successful single release to date. The platinum success of the album set them up for the Once World Tour, enabling them to play in many countries the band had never visited before.

An era came to an end, a "best of" album was released in September 2005, after the recording in the Hartwall Areena (Helsinki) on the 21st of October, 2005, of the new live DVD End of an Era (released June 2006), the four other members of Nightwish decided that it was best to continue Nightwish without Tarja, a feeling they expressed through an open letter to Tarja Turunen, (an interesting insight).

Nightwish has been writing and recording thru 2006 and have been auditioning for a replacement singer, who's name will be announced any mayday now......

Tenhi - Airut-Aamujen ( 04 * 259mb)

At the end of year 1996 Tyko Saarikko composed the first songs for Tenhi and Ilkka Salminen joined the band. After short sessions, a demo tape ‘Kertomuksia’ was recorded and released in spring 1997, getting good response in the underground and catching the interest of German label Prophecy Productions, a deal was signed for three full-length albums. Ilmari Issakainen was asked to join the group before they entered the studio for the ‘Hallavedet’-recording session in spring 1998. The recording and mixing took place in a hasty 16-hour session and the band indirectly learned to define their wanted Tenhi sound by it. The following summer, violin player Eleonora Lundell joined the band while they were composing material for the first full-length album ‘Kauan’ which was recorded autumn 1999. Veera Partanen played flute as a session member. Two songs were dropped out from the sessions: ‘kielo’ and ‘niin auer hiljaa vie’.

During the summer of 2000, `Kielo´ was re-recorded and released later on the mCD `airut:ciwi` with two other songs. At the end of year Tenhi started to record the following full-length album `väre`, which came across many setbacks. Now it ought to be released early autumn 2002. In the beginning of summer 2001 Tenhi got another chance to play at Wave-Gotik-Treffen and this time everything went as planned. Following autumn Tenhi had a tour in Germany and in Austria with Dornenreich and Of The Wand And The Moon. The tour went well, apart from the lack of proper equipment at some venues, which forced the bands to play at almost speaking volume. The following release after 'väre' is continuing the 'airut:' saga.

The piano driven “Airut:aamujen” was originally released in small limited edition thru our Utustudio in December 2004 under the name Harmaa. After signing it also to Prophecy we wanted to re-release it with the title TENHI and so bring the saga together.Airut:saga is based on my and Ilmari Issakainen’s visions. The saga continues and explores further paths found in certain TenhiI songs. The song ‘Kielo’ was the source of inspiration for the first two chapters. The third one “Airut:Savoie” will grow upon themes found in ‘Tuulenkaato’ and ‘Maa syttyy’ (Maaäet). Tenhi have already composed the material for “Airut:savoie” and shall enter the studio later this year.

Tenhi journeys through diverse feelings. folk-influenced progressive music, the lyrics are written in Finnish, and they follow the musical themes; esoteric moods, withdrawn feelings, fragility and the mystical side of nature. This is a great band, just click here Kielo and you'll get the pictures.....

HIM - And Love Said No ( 04 * 484mb)

HIM started out as a cover band, covering songs of artists such as KISS, Type O Negative, Danzig, Black Sabbath and Depeche Mode. After many lineup changes and a hiatus from 1991 to 1995 caused by the members' military services, the band now consists of the three founding members plus keyboardist Janne Johannes "Burton" Puurtinen and drummer Mika Kristian "Gas" Karppinen. In 97 HIM released their first full-length studio album, Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666, produced by Hiili Hiilesmaa, who also produced their EP 666 Ways to Love: Prologue. In keeping with the theme of 666, the albums length is 66 minutes and 6 seconds. After gaining popularity in Europe, and particularly their homeland, HIM released their second and european breakthrough album Razorblade Romance (99). Their single "Join Me in Death" reached #1 on the German music charts.

After the Daniel Lioneye side-project, HIM released Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights in August 2001. This was the band's first album with new keyboarder Emerson Burton, the final addition to the current line-up. 2003, HIM released Love Metal. This was the first album that did not feature singer/songwriter Ville Valo on the cover. Instead, it featured a gold heartagram, the band's well-known logo. Around that time HIM became better known in America and internationally when professional skateboarder and TV personality Bam Margera began using the band's heartagram logo and promoting them extensively on his MTV series Viva La Bam. Margera produced their video for "Buried Alive By Love", which featured a guest appearance from Natural Born Killers actress Juliette Lewis. "The heartagram symbolizes the contrast or perfect balance between life and death, love and hatred, darkness and light, good and evil, or even love and death together."

And Love Said No: The Greatest Hits 1997-2004 is HIM's first greatest hits album. It contains two unreleased songs: "And Love Said No" and "Solitary Man", it also had a rerecorded version of "When Love And Death Embrace".

HIM's fifth studio album, 2005's Dark Light, became their big breakthrough in the United States. Some of the success of the Dark Light album was due to professional skateboarder and Jackass star, Bam Margera, who is an avid supporter of the band. Uneasy Listening Vol. 1 is HIM's third compilation album with remix versions of their songs, "Uneasy Listening Vol. 2" will be released sometime in 2007.

Stage 22, Sweden SE

Welcome to Sweden's SE (second edition), i start off with a vinyl rip, Swedens first ever raprecord sort of, there's some great fusion going on and the title track was a dancefloor cracker, Per Cussion All Stars , besides look at that awesome cover (over at rho-xsss) spectacular, so was the whole production of the album. Radio Dept's first album Lesser Matters surprised the industry and laid a good foundation. Their latest 'Pet Grief", which i came across listed as one of last years best at some places, should pave the way further. From the glossy cityscape drama's to the rough and rugged world of nature isnt as far as it may seem, Hedningarna takes their tools into the field and offers you a ride on their trip. The biggest name in swedish music last year was the Knife, the camera shy brother and sister raised their freakish/odd imago a little more by staying away from the awards cere-money, but thats allright rumour has it they'll soon go on a farao's tour (wink) . Anyway a country so close to Finland must get inspired by the pleasently deranged music scene we'll explore next week.

Wiki has 136 pages in the "Swedish heavy metal musical groups" category, compared to for instance Germany's 98 pages with a 9 times bigger population, kinda tells us that Sweden very likely is heavy metal country no 1 on this planet. I'm not really into that sort of music, however my posting of swedish music bands cant completely ignore the biggest scene the swedes support, the closest i get is with Pain, the soloproject of Hypocrasy frontman, industrial, goth technometal. Also Khoma originally started as a side project from Cult of Luna, well maybe its too sensitive for metal heads , too brutal for indie fans or maybe just right . .

Per Cussion All Stars - Don't Stop ( 83 ^ 226mb)

Per Cussion all stars' album "Don't stop" from 1983 is an ultra rare Swedish rap record and the first of its kind to be presented in Sweden. The Swedish percussionist Per Tjernberg visited NYC several times in the early 80s. There he discovered the breakdance and the early rap culture and did get so inspired so he brought home the idea to Sweden and put together some Swedish musicians. A friend also brought him together with an obscure rapper Grandmaster funk (later shortened to GM funk), originally from Brooklyn NYC. The project was finally called "Per Cussion all stars". They released their first 12" "Don't stop" in 1983, which was the first rap ever recorded in Sweden. One especially flattering story for Per Tjernberg was when Africa Bambaata, whom he considered the high priest of hip hop, asked him if he could spare some copies of the 12" since he had worn his out when DJ-ing! The 12" was followed up by the album with the same name in June that year. Two yearrs later Per Cussion All Stars released "Beatwave" a bit of a repeat with 2 tracks sung by dr. John (mac rebennack), but without the 'hit' and lacking marketing backing from the recordlabel, the Per Cussion jazz-funk fusion project sank into oblivion.

Radio Dept - Lesser Matters ( ' 04 ^ 317mb)

The Radio Dept. was formed by Elin Almered and Johan Duncanson in 1995 who were in the school together in their early teenage. The name was taken from a gas station/radio repairer shop in Lund, sweden which had a large sign with the name "Radioavdelningen, ("The Radio Department" in Swedish) hanging outside their shop.

Since 1995 members have been coming and going and at some points there has never really been a Radio Department at all. Coree members Martin Larsson and Johan Duncanson started playing together in 1998 and decided to use the name The Radio Dept. Since the band has done lots of gigs and recordings. In the autumn of 2001 Lisa Carlberg and Per Blomgren (Bass & drums respectively), and soon afterwards Daniel Tjader, on the keyboards joined. Their recordings were sent to the music magazine Sonic and got a good review.

The Radio Dept. signed to Labrador in late 2002 and began to pioneer the Swedish indie pop revival that has occured this millennia. Most of the Radio Dept.' releases have been on Labrador.Including: "Lesser Matters", "Pulling Our Weight", "Where Damage Isn't Already Done", Shelflife were selected by Labrador to distribute The Radio Dept.'s debut album, lesser matters, around Europe. They did this in 2003. XL rec picked them up in 2004 and well, due to XL being a multinational conglomerate obsessed with making 'bucks' and the Radio Dept. being everything but, the two parted ways again a year later. Their latest 'Pet Grief", which i came across listed as one of last years best at some places should really get them moving.

'Lesser Matters' is their long-incubated debut album and a thing of great fuzzy wonder. Sounding like it was recorded in a world where four tracks are the most heavenly of all creations, the record gently fizzes along on a train of buzzing guitars and strained keyboards, with vocals gently focussing in the background. It has the same majesty and ethereal wonder contained in the best works of bands who have bled their soul onto acetate.

Hedningarna - Hedningarna (1989-2003) (03 * 513mb)

Hållbus Totte Mattson, Anders Stake and Björn Tollin formed Hedningarna in 1987. Hedning is Swedish for heathen, or unfaithful, and the musicians said that they felt to a great extent unfaithful to the prevailing ideas in folk music. They wanted to go far back to the roots of the Old Norse culture, including the use of ancient instruments not much used in current Swedish folk music. Stake, a trained luthier, also began to invent and build new instruments, to produce new sounds. They play traditional instruments - lutes, fiddles, mandoras, flutes, accordions, except, these are all plugged into amplifiers. Their world is a place where primitive, brutal folk music collides with sampling and programming.

Hedningarna have a scratchy/droning sound and a keen sense of often the dark side of nature.ut sensitive nevertheless.Their lyrics are often from the viewpoint of wolves, horses and wilderness humans. The female singers from Finland are beautifully uninhibited. In some songs they're expressive of childhood innocence, and in others they're wild and frenzied.

The Knife - Deep Cuts ( ' 03 * 482mb)

This is the world of The Knife: precise, particular, dark, occult, funny-peculiar, funny-ha-ha. This Swedish brother-and-sister duo work mostly on their own in splendid isolation; they release music on their own label, licensing it to selected partners around the world, so they have to answer to no one Though the pair has been at it for years now, diligently producing sounds since 1999 in Stockholm for their own label, Rabid (Being Swedish Grammis winners of "Pop Group of the Year" in 2003 for this work Deep Cuts, specifically the ultra-sweet "Heartbeats," the song transformed into a top 10 hit to achey-breaky affect by fellow Swede José Gonzales in the Sony Bravia ‘bouncing balls’ commercial. And so to The Knife edged towards the mainstream and into the public eye. All this came about when they put last touch on"Deep Cuts" follow up album, "Silent Shout" late 2004. Its release was held back by the sudden succes/limelight thru heartbeats and so Deep Cuts was rereleased in 2005, together with some new videos.

Silent Shout was named the best album of 2006 by Pitchfork Media, however Q mag gave it a 1 in its review, so very polarised opinions in the music press, remarkable in itself. At the Swedish Grammis awards in January 2007, The Knife won in all six categories they were nominated in: Composer, Music-DVD, Producer, Pop group, Album and Artist of the Year. However, they did not attend the award ceremony due to many different reasons according to themselves.Like too silly wearing masks when accepting awards., oops.

Khoma - The Second Wave ( ' 06 ^ 330mb)

It seems like an incompatible alliance, members of musically divided bands such as Cult of Luna, the Perishers, Scared, Refused and Plastic Pride together in a rehearsal room. Solid darkness meets melodious sadness, musical precision and the creative forces of anarchist politics. Brutality and tender frailty surrounded by four walls – but there is a theme: Khoma is a breathing space where the different styles fuse, says the band´s singer Jan Jämte. We have a vision of creating heavy music that reflects more feelings than sheer aggression. Sometimes whispering can be more powerful than screaming.

Khoma is yet another result of Umeå's raging music scene, founded in 2002, the members have known each other for years- sharing dreams, rehearsal rooms, vans and a musical kindship that has survived the birth and death of a thousand bands. Anything but a conventional band, Khoma is a few friends sharing a musical and political vision. Khoma is what won't fit the frame. A crashing wave of angst, desperation, anger and beautiful love.

Khoma has two faces. One that writes, rehearses, and records songs, and another that gathers to play live. The core of Khoma is always static vocalist Jan Jämte, guitarist Johannes Persson, and Fredrik Kihlberg on guitar/piano but the surrounding band members are a rolling collective of musicians. Despite starting as a side project originally, a few months in things were beginning to take off for the band. A limited 1000-disc run of debut album Tsunami was released and quickly sold out. It was reprinted and quickly sold out again.

Fusing granite-hard riffs with plangent cello motifs and aching vocals, Khoma are what Radiohead would sound like if they'd grown up listening to Black Sabbath. Complex and technically dazzling, the trio's sprawling songs would be impenetrable were it not for singer Jan Jamte, whose passionate vowels soar above the sonic chaos in the tremulous style of Muse's Matt Bellamy. Too sensitive for metal heads too brutal for indie fans, Khoma may struggle to find their niche. A shame, because this is heavy music at its most epic.

Pain - Rebirth ( 99 ^ 342mb)

Pain is Peter Tagtgren's Industrial Techno Metal side project. He is also the lead vocalist and guitarist of well known Death Metal band Hypocrisy. In contrast to Hypocrisy, Pain is focused more upon the melody over aggression. Peter no longer sings in grunted snarls, instead he sings normally but still with that trademark attitude people have grown to love. They're still loud, pissed off, yet full of melody and atmosphere due to their masterful mixing of techno and metal with a touch of gothic. Pain is different however when compared to other metal acts, their sound is very high pitched and resonates well. Very unique sound. With ear shattering songs such as 'End of the Line' and 'Suicide Machine', Rebirth is definitely an album I recommend to fans of  Industrial Metal, it will utilize your loud speakers to their fullest capacity.

Stage 21, Sweden

Sweden

In the midst of the Middle Ages (1397), following the end of the Viking Age (ca. 800-1100), Sweden became part of the Kalmar Union together with Denmark and Norway (Finland at this time was a part of the Swedish kingdom). King Gustav I of Sweden (House of Vasa) broke free from it in 1521 and established a nation state, considered the foundation of modern Sweden. Sweden's "Father of the Nation", shortly afterwards rejected Catholicism and led Sweden to the Protestant Reformation. From then on Sweden more or less constantly battled its neighbours for many years, especially Russia and the still united Denmark-Norway, which never completely accepted Sweden leaving the union. In the 17th century Sweden extended its territory through warfare and became a Great Power, twice its current size. By 1814 Sweden had lost its empire as well as Finland, previously an integral part of the Kingdom of Sweden. Since 1814, Sweden has been at peace, adopting a non-aligned foreign policy in peacetime and neutrality in wartime. Between 1850 and 1910 more than one million Swedes emigrated to the United States.

Sweden remained neutral during World War I and World War II as claimed by itself, although its neutrality during World War II has been highly debated. Following the World War II, Sweden took advantage of intact industrial base, social stability and its natural resources, making it possible to expand its industry to supply the rebuilding of Europe, leading it to be one of the richest countries in the world by 1960. Sweden continued to stay non-aligned during the Cold War, and is still not a member of any military alliance.

Sweden has a rich musical tradition, ranging from medieval folk ballads to house music. The music of the pre-Christian Norse has been lost to history, although there have been historical attempts to recreate how it could have sounded based on instruments found in Viking sites. Instruments used were the lur (a sort of trumpet), simple string instruments, wooden flutes and drums. The Viking musical legacy lives on in the old Swedish folk music and their attraction to heavy metal, Sweden, Finland and neighboring Norway experience a rising inclusion of Viking or Germanic neo-pagan religious elements in 21st century Scandinavian culture.

ABBA is without a doubt the most well-known popular music group from Sweden, and the only one that ranks among the most well-known in the world selling over 250 million records worldwide ( thank you Napoleon). Thats more than enough, so lets concentrate on those that need it. I start off today,as usual, with a vinyl rip from Twice A Man, a duo that s close to their 30th year in making music together, with hindsight one can say, commercially they didnt do very well, maybe they dont care but I think its a pity their work is so hard to come by ive added some recent work aswell, together with the album Music For Girls a great start , second up, ancient instrumentation next to sampled drum-loops, tender violins and distorted guitars, yes it's Garmarna. Lucky People Center's Interspecies communication is a masterpiece from a collective that dissolved in a millenium crises, a real pity. DK7, the unassuming bandname derived from the labelnumber, noir tinged electro with a touch of Dalbeck acid, and some cool detached vocals from irish 'import' Mark O'Sullivan. The alternative scene favourite almost dead little bird, Stina Nordenstam deserves a place, her output hasn't been that high but then Stina has other interests too, she's multitalented and an accomplished artist in photography and music video directing. Last Swede for todays post is one of the biggest names in techno, Adam Beyer.

Twice A Man - Music For Girls ( ' 82   207mb)

Cosmic Overdose (Karl Gasleben, Dan Söderqvist) had released two fantastic albums in Sweden, then morphed into Twice a Man. While the progression seemed logical, at the time it was a major disappointment. Gone were the hard electronic drones and electric guitars of the "space punks" (as they were called back then. What was left was this, a very light, ambient sound, somewhat in advance of everything else, but very disapponting at the time.

Twice A Man have been around since 1981, from the start more like an ordinary musicgroup in the syntheziser genre, but has since the middle of the eighties become a projectgroup, who cooperate with artists from other fields such as film, theater and dance. During the years Twice A Man has been in existence they have made 15 CD/LP, 7 theatre productions, 3 filmmusic productions and many tours and concerts all over Europe.

Twice A Mans interest to visualize their music has been one of the characteristics of the group and they appear as pioneers in the context of using advanced technique with an artistic expression. The computer as a tool or an instrument have played a key role during the last years, except for the music, now also in graphics. Unfortunately they lacked the foresight to keep control over their work and much of it has been stalled at now defunct labels, therfore getting hold of their work is very difficult. Second hand or dumpstores likely offer the best chance to find any of their work, at least outside Sweden.

Garmarna - Vedergallningen ( 99 ^ 275mb)

Formed 1990 in Sweden. Garmarna have a unique sound: firmly based in Swedish traditional music but influenced by the rock tradition they've all grown up with. They ignore the unwritten laws of how traditional music should be performed; they know no boundaries. The music is half new - and newly-written - and half traditional with ancient instrumentation next to sampled drum-loops, suggestive mouth harps, tender violins and distorted guitars. In 1992 the band recorded their first EP. They thought that female vocals would provide a contrast to the dark mood of their music and invited Emma Härdelin, a long-time friend of the band, as the guest vocalist on the EP. She officially joined the band in 1993. The debut EP sold well in Sweden, and helped the band tour in Scandinavia. On their debut album Vittrad(Withered), the band decided to add samples and sequencers to the mix. Garmarna started a long German tour and released the album Guds Spelemän (The fiddlers of God) in 1996. The album sold well in Sweden and was reviewed favourably internationally.

In 1999 the band took a giant step forward with Vengeance. It's truly a breakthrough record for the entire genre of Nordic music. This masterpiece brilliantly fuses the ancient with the modern, traditional murder ballads with rock and trip-hop production techniques, the transcendent with the subterranean. Emma Härdelin delivers Swedish medieval songs about evil spells, deceit and violence with sweet, sensuous seduction. The rest of the band have risen to the task of providing real substance behind The Voice (Emma).

Following Vengeance, the band returned to the studio to complete the full-length Hildegard von Bingen album. After extensive study of the source material, the band created new instrumental arrangements to surround the lyrics and von Bingen's original melodies. Layers of strings, guitars, hurdy-gurdy and percussion swirl around the traditional vocals of Emma Härdelin. Since then (2001), they toured a lot , waorking on side projects (Triakel) and at the moment working on a new album to be released this year.

Lucky People Center - Interspecies Communication ( ' 95 * 308mb)

Lucky People Center was a swedish artistic collective, most well known for their electronic music, which falls roughly in the Ambient house/Trance genres, and the movie Lucky People Center International. Lucky People Center is more a constellation than a group, and the projects done under the name have various members. They've made 3 albums " Welcome To Lucky People Center" (93), this one " Interspecies Communication" (95) and " Interference" (98) . Unfortunately the labels these are released on are all defunct now. Neither was i able to find much on what the LPC collective members are doing these days. DK7 - Disarmed (05 ^ 324mb)

Ever wondered what grown-up electro would sound like? Meet DK7... The coming together of Tiga producer Jesper Dahlback and the Mighty Quark's Mark O'Sullivan, DK7 make noir tinged electro - but with a New Romantic twist. .Jesper Dahlbäck, born 74 in Stockholm starts to produce techno at home, influenced by the Detroit, Berlin, London techno scene in 1991. Two years later, with Peter Benisch (FPU) and Adam Beyer he founds Globe Studios where he produces mainly hard techno. Together with Thomas Krome Jesper Dahlbeck founded the label DK in.. Disarmed was it seventh release, therefore DK7.

Taking in a commendably broad spectrum of influences and styles, DK7 seem just as happy crafting broad and theatrical electro torch songs ('Sweetness In Time') as they do gurning it up on the space-race electro and Underworld vocals of 'Fade In Tomorrow'. Disarmed" is an altogether darker – even gothic – affair with screeching guitars (courtesy of former Ride and current Oasis member Andy Bell) sometimes showing their teeth over the thumping electronic basslines."Disarmed" muddles already blurry musical genre boundaries further by stitching Joy Division and Underworld into an attractive patchwork quilt.

Doubtless DK7 will have to endure a few remarks about their similarity to labelmates Colder. They certainly share a number of attributes, namely the cool detached vocals (courtesy of Mark O'Sullivan), that minimalist European, almost-danceable sound (provided by Jesper Dahlbäck) and the omnipresent sense of evil. As it turns out, what we have is a great post-wave record that crosses over to the club scene.

Stina Nordenstam - This Is.. (01 ^ 180mb)

Slightly reclusive, Stina gives very few interviews, rarely performs live and even alters her appearance using wigs and make-up for album covers and magazines, her distinctive, breathy voice led to early comparisons with artists like Rickie Lee Jones and Björk. However, in addition to being a musician, Nordenstam is also an accomplished artist in other fields, such as photography and music video directing.

Stina's early albums, Memories Of A Colour and And She Closed Her Eyes were significantly jazz-influenced with only subtle elements of alternative rock. With 1997's Dynamite she started down a darker, more experimental path - most of the album was filled with over-processed distorted electric guitars and unusual beats, but careful listening revealed her unique songwriting abilities. An album of covers, People Are Strange, followed before she returned in 2001 with This Is Stina Nordenstam, an album with shorter songs and a more pop-like, but still highly distinctive feel; ex-Suede vocalist Brett Anderson features on two tracks. In 2003 she sang on one track from Danish prog-rockers Mew's international debut Frengers. Her 2004 album The World Is Saved continues the path set on This Is..., but presents a more realized sound and acknowledges her earlier jazz influences more.

Adam Beyer - Ignition Key 1 ( ' 02* 424mb)

Alongside Stockholms Cari Lekebusch, Joel Mull and Jesper Dahlback, Adam Beyer has become synonymous with the techno sound of Sweden, which has quite literally shaken the world since the mid-nineties. From the driving percussive force of his Drumcode label to the more open electronic miasma on his current Truesoul and Mad Eye imprints, Beyer remains one of the biggest and most influential producer/DJs on the planet. He's released a constant stream of succesful 12" mostly thru his own Drumcode Records, Truesoul Records and Mad Eye Recordings. He was behind some well recieved mix albums Essential underground 9 (04) and Fabric 22 (05) , he's a sought after remixer and still manages to play plenty of poundiing percussive gigs around the planet.

Percussion..drums was Adam's first entry into making music at the age of 11. By the age of 15 Adam was DJing at school parties and any student gig he could get hold of. At 16 with schoolfriends Joel Mull and Peter Benisch they began to fool around with a sampler. They started to learn the basics with one thing and then we bought an Atari, then saved some money and bought a Juno 106, a 303 and so on. By 1993 they were confident enough to send demos out, 8 months later their first record came out. With more records coming out the three friends started to get booked for bigger raves whilst interest abroad remained in the Scandinavian environs. In 94 they released a lot of fast tempo stuff and some hard trance under different names, but Adam still hadnt defined his style.

After he finished school in 1995. Beyer went on holiday and came up with the idea of making a record based solely around drums. Thus it was that year that Drumcode 1 was released on Glen Wilsons Planet Rhythm imprint, the record store's label where Beyer had worked and met fellow DJ/producer Cari Lekebusch. After releasing Drumcode 2 and an album for Planet Rhythm in 1995 Decoded, Beyer finally went on to form his own label, Drumcode in 1996. Check his MySpace for what happened next...

Stage 20, Denmark to be or..

Unfortunately Mediafire has decided to no longer accept any size uploads, which it naively did before feb 1, i think the cap at 100mb is arbitrary, for me it means that several uploads will have to be split. As, in contrast to rapidshare, you won't have to wait an hour or more to get the other part i suppose its not too inconvenient.

I noted a bigger inconvenience at blogger, as coverart not always unfolds, im not sure if i can do anything about it. However,  i can point you to my Opera mirror blog, Rho-Xsss where cover art is displayed fullsize.

Denmark to be or, my second danish installment with more new talent rearing it's head, like Kasmir, Diefenbach, Efterklang and Under Byen from my last post Mew, Saybia, Bliss and Lampshade need all the exposure they can get, which means being twice as good and lots of touring to get the press noticing them, because one things for sure, the anglo american music industry, and that includes their musicpress , isnt going to give up its imperialist ways by itself.

Well i start off today with 2 duo's, first a vinyl rip from Laid Back, kings of not to be music, they probably still make some nice pocketmoney from their 3 hits to this day. Safri Duo are a different proposition all together these guys have been drumming together sincec they were 10 year olds, they toured in suits with their classical arrangements and were thrown in the limelight when they tried something else Bongo Song.. got picked up and all of a sudden....

I've added some YouTube videos links , for entertainment and to give you the chance to probe naturally.

Laid Back - Keep Smiling ( ' 83 * 232mb)

Laid Back (John Guldberg and Tim Stahl) are from Copenhagen and formed in 1979. In the early 1980s, Laid Back were known in their own country and South America only, with the 1982 single "Sunshine Reggae" being one of their most successful, however, no so in the United States, but its B-side, "White Horse," was embraced by several of the country's club DJs. Thanks to support from Prince, Warner Bros. eventually released a 12" single featuring "White Horse" and Prince's "When Doves Cry" on the same platter, increasing Laid Back's profile significantly. The track's instantly recognizable, snapping electro-funk has solidified its reputation as an underground dance classic played by DJs until this day. "White Horse" (heroin) was an anti-drug abuse themed track about people who were lured into the drug culture/lifestyle.

For a number of years Laid Back were fairly quiet, but they resurfaced in 1989 with the catchy single "Bakerman," (featuring famous Danish singer Hanne Boel) a hit in most European countries (including #9 in Germany) and a minor success in the UK charts where it reached number 44 (1990). It received plenty of airplay because of its unusual video, directed by Lars von Trier, which had the band skydiving while "playing" their instruments. Though they never again enjoyed the attention granted to them through "White Horse," Stahl and Guldberg continue making music together as Laid Back The duo also began working as composers of film music. In 2002, the duo composed the soundtrack of feature film, Flyvende Farmor, for which they were awarded a Robert, one of Denmark's top film awards.

Safri Duo - Episode 2-1 ( ' 02 * 393mb)

Uffe Savery and Morten Friis first met in 1977 playing with the Tivoli Garden Boys' Guard Band, in 88 whilst attending the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music, they formed an experimental duo, called Safri Duo, whose name originated from the first letters of their last names: Savery and Friis. Under this name, Savery and Friis released six albums between 1990 and 1998, mostly percussion transcriptions from classics from Bach, Chopin and others. Their talent did not pass unnoticed, and in 1999 the duo was given a contract with Universal Music Denmark.

After being signed, a track mixing both tribal sound and modern electronica was set to be released in 2000 The result was the tremendously popular "Played-a-live (The Bongo Song)," , it started appearing on club's playlists, it soon got airtime on MTV Europe. The mix between the then fashionable tribal drums over trance proved to be a success, and it ended the year as one of the best selling singles in Europe in 2000. The album, named Episode II hit the market on 4 June 2001, nine tracks long, all featured the same percurssion-electronica combination, except Adagio that kept the former classic line of the duo. A reissue with the single Sweet Freedom recorded with Michael McDonald was released on 30 September 2002.

In 2003 the new album 3.0 was released. It featured Clark Anderson as vocalist on several of the tracks, including All the People in the World, Agogo Mosse and Laarbasses. The single Rise became a huge success and later they released a new version called Rise (Leave Me Alone) which featured Clark Anderson on vocals. In 2004 they released a remix album of 3.0 called 3.5 - International Version. Not everybody's cup of tea i guess and they certainly could have done with a better trance dj to guide them, but these guys, not even 40, have been seriously playing the drums for 30 years now and that deserves respect.

Mew - Frengers ( 03 * 324mb)

The band originates from Hellerup, north of Copenhagen, though the members now all reside in London, England. Whilst their music may be classified as indie and on occasion progressive rock, they sometimes humorously refer to it themselves as "pretentious art rock".At the 2003 Danish Music Critics Award Show, Mew was awarded prizes for "Album of the Year" and "Band of the Year". After an European tour supporting R.E.M. they have begun to attract wider attention. Their latest album "And The Glass Handed Kites" brought them 4 statuettes at the Danish Music Awards 2006.

Mew blend a distinctive mix of My Bloody Valentine, Lush and the Cocteau Twins (with a little dash of New Order) and come up with something verging on essential. Frengers, their debut album, kicks off with the superb single, Am I Wry? No, a frenetic surge of pop that collapses on itself several times as it pushes you into raptures. It's not the style of the rest of the album, but its passion throbs through the remaining nine tracks.

Symmetry is an ethereal beauty that seems to have been stolen off the kitchen side while Liz Fraser was looking the other way, Her Voice Is Beyond Her Years throws a tantrum in the intro and continues down the street marked Stina Nordenstam (the spiritual mother of this group), She Came Home For Christmas is a devastating snow storm, frozen into a sheer slide of emotion, and album closer Comforting Sounds is just that, a womblike vision of lo-fi guitars and far-off harmonies that suddenly burst into flower and joy.

Saybia - Live @ O13 ( ' 02 * 349mb)

In 1993, the band Saybia was formed in the town Nyborg, Denmark. The Name Saybia originated from the name of a Sabian cymbal, Sabian slowly turned to Saybia. At that the time the band members were: Søren Huss (Vocal), Thomas Dahl (Guitar), Jeppe Knudsen (Bass) og Palle Sørensen (Drums) In 1998, two new band members joined the band; guitar player Sebastian Sandstrøm replaced Thomas Dahl who had quit the band and keyboard player Jess Jensen. In 2000, the band moved to Copenhagen where they started to work on new songs in their studio. In June 2001 they get a record deal with EMI and release the "Saybia EP" containing 6 numbers, with songs like "Foold corner" and "The day after tomorrow", which got them nominated for 3 Danish Music Awards, winning the Award for Best Rock Album. A big part of the bands success was thanks to massive airplay on the Danish radio station "P3".

January 2002, the long awaited album "The second you sleep" was released. In Denmark, this album hits the number 1 position in almost all charts in no-time and ultimately sold 300,000 copies ( 1 in 10 danish households has a copy !). The single "The second you sleep" also got released in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Finland. September 2004 Saybia releases the follow-up to The Second You sleep: These Are The Days.

This 40 min Live EP came as a limited edition with The Second You sleep album, and is recorded at O13, a mediumsized concerthall with excellent acoustics in Tilburg, Netherlands. Bliss - Quiet Letters-1 ( ' 03 * 396mb)

BLISS - The very name says much about the music. But little is known about this rising Danish/Swedish and African outfit. Because founding members dj Steffen Aaskoven and classically trained Marc-George Andersen, with Alexandra and Tchando on vocals, have chosen a somewhat anonymous profile so far. Even their sleeve imagery has been abstract and about the music. Instead they've been allowing their music to speak for them. The musical world of BLISS is deeply rooted in a blend of western, african and classical musical influences representing the vast musical backgrounds of all four members respectively. It also showchases an undercurrent of apprent melancholy with a warmth that is otherwise hard to describe in words...

Since the first release of the debut album 'Afterlife' (2001) and having sold more than 12.000 records in Denmark, BLISS have gained a growing audience around the world. BLISS is also one of the most compiled acts from Scandinavia and have appeared on more than 58 compilations over the last 2 years.Lately BLISS have expanded their musical scope and have been producing music amongst other things for the American tv series C.S.I (Crime Scene Investigation), the reality show ROBINSON and have also written the official movie trailer for the first Copenhagen International Film Festival 2003. Furthermore, BLISS have provided music for such diverse companies and adds like Carlsberg, Lundbeck, Zendium....and will continue supporting all kinds of media and to appear in diverse fora.

Bliss's Quiet Letters makes you think of Massive (new age) Attack meets Sade. With the vibes of Morricone opening track ”Sleep will Come” from”Quiet Letters” is an open space created with musical flair for tradition, and beautiful sense of beauty ambience. Calm, quietly it folds into a dreamy and peaceful piece of music, that makes you think about a movie ones lost, now found. This jamuary Bliss released a new album "Spirit of Man"

Lampshade - Because Trees Can Fly (' 03 * 396mb)

Lampshade has existed since 2000 and has released a bunch of singles and EP’s, taken part in the concept release 3P (three EP’s released as an album in a digi-pack) and about 15 compilations internationally. The breakthrough single ’Adorable Void?’ was released in 2001 and made way for a long line of concerts and festivals in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and The Netherlands and for airplay in Danish national TV and radio. In 2003 Lampshade released the debut album ’Because Trees Can Fly’ in Denmark and the year after the band signed with Glitterhouse Records after a show that amazed the label’s President and A&R at a concert in Germany, subsequently the album was released in the rest of Europe with great success.

The title ’because trees can fly’ is inspired by the poem ’Seglet blev brudt’ written by the Danish author Martin A. Hansen, and it is an expression of the band’s confident and simple but grandiose music. It is an album full of hope and positivism containing 12 songs that shape a whole of whispering lyric poetry and beautiful noise. The tracks are flavoured with trumpet, cello, horn, glockenspiel, piano and a lot of other musical details.

The band writes all its songs together and all contribute with new ideas and ‘relics’ of each of their musical raising that roughly looks like this: Guitarist Martin has his background in hardcore and melancholic rock, while the Swedish Drummer Daniel is into emorock . The musical revolution in bassist and singer Johannes’ life came with noise- and postrock, lead singer and key-player Rebekkamaria’s universe is full of lo-fi rock and singer/song-writer music .
Last year Lampshade released "Let's Away"

Stage 19, Denmark not to be..

Danmark is an extremely flat country, the highest point just 170m (570ft) above sealevel, Danmark belongs to the family of Scandinavian countries although not located on the Scandinavian Peninsula, its capital is Copenhagen. Denmark became a constitutional monarchy in 1849 after having been an absolutist state since 1660, Having existed for more than 1000 years, the Danish Monarchy is one of the oldest in the world. The Kingdom of Denmark also encompasses two off-shore territories, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, both of which enjoy wideranging home rule.

From the 8th to the 10th century, the Danes were known as Vikings. Together with Norwegians and Swedes, they colonised, raided and traded in all parts of Europe. Viking explorers first discovered Iceland by accident in the 9th century, on the way towards the Faroe Islands and eventually came across "Vinland" (Land of wine) also known today as Newfoundland, in Canada. The Danish Vikings were most active in England and France where they temporarily conquered parts of England, known as the Danelaw, Ireland and France, giving name to the French region of Normandy. More Anglo-Saxon coins from the Viking age have been found in Denmark than in England !

Famous Danes, well if Neils Bohr rings a bell than you probably have heard of quarks aswell, it is however more likely that you know H. C. Andersen's fairy tales. Or Karen "out of africa" Blixen or maybe babe Briggitte Nielsen xStallone is more your line of interest. Whatever, by far the most famous Dane is actually a fictional character, Hamlet, the title character of William Shakespeare's famous play, which was set in the real castle of Kronborg in Helsingør. The play was inspired by an old Danish myth of the Viking Prince Amled of Jutland, and his quest for vengeance against his father's killer. But Shakespeare' wouldnt be Shakespeare' if he hadn't added something more, the line, the curse of Hamlet, the curse of the Danes " TO BE or NOT TO BE " that's the question, or is it ? Well something is rotten in the state of Denmark, Murder most foul, ...There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.Though this be madness, yet there is method in 't....The cat will mew and dog will have his day....an old man is twice a child, Purpose is but the slave to memory,... The rest is silence.

Musically Danmark reflects this opposition TO BE a thoughtful introverted and generally unassuming attitude Not to BE, extraverted, simplistic if not banal, it stands to reason that the latter have commercially been more succesful, home but certainly abroad. There's the Roskilde Festival that these days attracts not only scandinavians, but from all over Europe, its one of the biggest in its sort but nevertheless manages, thanks to thousands of local voluteers, to maintain an open and communal atmosphere .

In this post 2 oldies, vinyl rips Kliche and Sort Sol, latter proves to be an interesting band right from the start, excellent cover art aswell...must consider the time here 1980, and Danmark was a bit of a backwater, these guys would have done very well in the UK in those days. I found a clip at YouTube from 94 , i searched out more clips of the bands i present here, so you can

get an idea as most groups aren't that well known globally. Efterklang and Kashmir are likely the best known and have several vids available aswell. Diefenbach, named after a character from the movie Fargo, has a hard to define instant appeal. My favourite here are Under Byen, a collective of men and women that create soundscapes dominated by piano, cello, violin, electrically distorted saw, organ, drums and percussion and voice. Make sure you check the awesome live vid of legesag.

Kliche - Supertanker ( ' 80 * 54mb)

Kliché was a Danish new wave band found in 1977 by Lars Hug (Lars Haagensen), Jens Valo (Jens Danielsen) og Johnny Voss (Johannes E. Møller), short after the drummer Anders Brill (Anders Gilberg) joined the band. Kliché's first concert was the 5. May 1978 at Vestergade 58 in Aarhus. Kliché had, a distinct sound mainly due to lead singer Lars Hug's original voice. They would semi-ironically quote Mao and Buddha and perform in uniforms - often coloured overalls. In 1980 they released their fist album "Supertanker", known for the number "Militskvinder" that quotes Mao. The opening track igen og igen aswell as the last track the 10 min "Masselinjen" epos are mainly instrumental and i'm pretty convinced they reached Kiel and little Ullli Schnauss. In October 1982 they released the album "Okay Okay Boys".

Lead singer, Lars Hug (later Lars H.U.G.), began his solo career in 1984 and has released several albums. After Hug left the band, the band was officially dissolved in april 1985. The remaining members released a single album titled Dobbelt Plus under the name Voss Torp Brill.

Diefenbach - Set & drift (05 ^=upgr 99mb)

Diefenbach first official album, Run Trip Fall, which according to NME took in “everything good from the last 40 years of pop music”. With its undeniable charm, Diefenbach managed to win over the likes of The Guardian, Radio 1, XFM and even found praise in The Sun , Remarkable, considering their first record was purely instrumental and they clearly didn't not let their skills go to waste. "Set and Drift" is a hugely polished lesson in professional song writing that covers many styles and moods, as any good pop record should their sound partakes in everything from shoegaze to techno-pop to folk without ever sounding like anything but their own wholly natural style, and they write great songs.

It's pretty easy to try to be some tortured artiste in a rock and roll band, but it's much harder to just come across as nice—or even worse, comforting, which Diefenbach kind of is. And yet they avoid the plague of wussiness which has been sweeping rock .There’s a real Manchester influence echoing all the way through this album with its sublime guitars and lush melodies. The Stone Roses resonate through every track, there are beautiful Beach Boy harmonies and there’s also a psychedelic, trippy 60s thing going on.

Efterklang - Tripper ( ' 04 * 87mb)

Efterklang (the Danish word for reverberation) is a post-rock group formed on January 2001 in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. The group consists of five core members and a sixth member who makes films for their songs. When performing live, these six members are also joined by violinist Helianne Blais and trombonist Niklas Antonson. They have released albums on the British/American record label The Leaf Label, but also have their own record label called Rumraket (the Danish word for space rocket). Efterklang, an extended ensemble from Copenhagen, who have produced some of the most lush and exquisite music in recent years. Uniting electronics with acoustic instrumentation, anchoring them to a central pulse and weaving a delicately incomprehensible voice across the landscape, as a mournful choir and sympathetic strings illustrates and colours in a textual manner, is the principal shape to their sound.

Released in 2003 the Springer EP is a striking introduction, with patiently balanced male/female vocals against contemplative displays of tension and surface. Tripper, originally released in 2004, continues this symphonic approach with an intelligent and effective use of drama and silence, bridging the vast spaces with whispered voices and intricate flittering electronic glitches. There's nothing erroneous about creating such beautifully sensual work and Efterklang are unafraid to offer us moments of absolute bliss in a time of unrest. On record and live, they are a seductive and essential force. Close your eyes for an instant and breathe, and relish that moment.

A new 5-track mini-album, entitled 'Under Giant Trees', which will be released in spring 2007 in strictly limited quantities and in deluxe packaging. Efterklang's second full album is currently scheduled for autumn 2007.

Sort Sol - Under en Sort Sol (Black Sun) ( ' 80 - 60mb)

Sort Sol was formed in Copenhagen, 1977. The original lineup consisted of: Steen Jørgensen (vocal), Peter Peter Schneidermann (guitar), Knud Odde (bass guitar), Thomas Ortved (drums). They released their first record Minutes to go February 1979 and it is considered the first Danish punk album. They went on to release Under En Sort Sol in 1980, a more experimental album, influenced in part by Joy Division, Wire, Pere Ubu and Television.

In 1981 the group released their first single under the name Sort Sol, "Marble Station" (b/w Misguided) was only released in England on the record label 4AD. In March. 1983 saw the release of the album Dagger & Guitar, featuring punk idol Lydia Lunch. In 1985 Lars Top-Galia(guitar) joined the group, and the line-up was not to change again until 1996, when Peter Peter left due to arguments within the band, partly owing to artistic differences. In 1988 they made the album "Everything that rises must converge" which has been described as the their artistic breakthrough. The album consists of 10 slowpaced tracks that rely heavily on the talented deep voice of Steen Jørgensen. In 1991 " Flow my Firetear" , was the first of their records reaching a broad audience. Sort Sol reached their peak popularity three years later with Glamourpuss which sold 100.000 records in Denmark. Internationally famous artists who have performed and/or recorded with the group include William S. Burroughs, Lydia Lunch, Link Wray and The Jordanaires.

Under Byen - Det er mig der holder træerne sammen (02 ^ 92 mb)
Under Byen is an eight piece band that mix the gentle with the raw. Reigning from Denmark's second-largest city, Århus, they produce their own unorthodox interpretation of rock music.Their qualities especially become evident at their spellbinding live shows where they create a symbiosis between elven fairytale fragility and massive rock energy. Sometimes soft as the wind, other times sharp as a rock. The intimate versus the extrovert. It is in this space that their musical magic emerges. Under Byen seem most at ease walking on thin ice - believing that their talent will keep them above water. And it does.

Under Byen (which is Danish for "Below The City") don't use guitars. Instead their soundscape is dominated by piano, cello, violin, electrically distorted saw, organ, drums and percussion - to great effect. A somewhat different vein of rock (or pop) spiced up with jazzy, folky and classical elements. This is a band to be heard, simply because they defy satisfactory explanation. Music speaks , awesome performance Under Byen- Legesag, live if that doesn't convince than no words of mine will.

The Danish lyrics are an important part of Under Byen, but the sound of the vocals alone will give the listener at hint of their poetic universe. When senior editor at Rolling Stone, David Fricke, experienced the band live in Denmark in 2002 he said: "Under Byen were fantastic. Of course I didn't understand a word of the lyrics - but that didn't matter at all. Luckily there's this page that offers Under Byen lyrics in english .

The 1999 debut album "Kyst" immediately impressed the music critics, who applauded the band for creating their own style and tone. The second album "Det er mig der holder træerne sammen" (2002) was equally praised and has grown to become a hallmark for the band and helped reach a wider audience in Denmark and elsewhere. In 2004 it was re-released outside Denmark. In 2006 Under Byen released their third album "Samme Stof Som Stof " ( Same Fabric As Fabric)

Far from being a mainstream act Under Byen has nevertheless attracted a growing devoted fanbase following the release of their albums extensive touring and intense live shows. The first 3 weeks of march they will tour US and Canada, check for dates and places at their website.

Kashmir - No Balance Palace ( ' 05 * 71mb)

In 1991 Kasper, Mads & Asger met each other on Kastanievejens Efterskole. Here they founded the band Nirvana, where they played heavy blues. As the other Nirvana grew in popularity, the band was aware that they had to change name - they changed it to Kashmir, named after a song by one of their favourite bands, Led Zeppelin. In 1994 Kashmir got their first record deal, on the new-formed record label Start, where their first album, Travelogue, was released. Later on, Kashmir signed a contract with Sony Denmark. Cruzential, album -- 1996, The Good Life, (1999) Zitilites (2003 ), Rocket Brothers, a doc. DVD (2004), The Aftermath a live concert DVD/CD ( 2005) fall 2005 saw the release of No Balance Palace.

Upon the release of Zitilites (city lights) the band was lauded with Danish Grammies. The rest of Europe, Australia, Japan and other territories embraced Kashmir as a band who could play an uncompromising form of cerebral rock music: The Music is nothing short of brilliant ... (Sunday Herald Sun, Melbourne) . Kasmir – Mads Tunebjerg (bass), Asger Techau (drums), Henrik Lindstrand (keyboards, guitar) and Kasper Eistrup (vocals, guitar) – have always sought a sound that didn’t match the material they’d recorded previously; the result has been five very different albums. As for No Balance Palace "We wanted to get the wild energy out of our systems. We became inspired after observing how 20- and 30-somethings pull out all the stops when they’re out at night. The hedonistic night life is a kind of No Balance Palace. So, the album was made with very aggressive energy, on a kind of self-destructive note,” Kasper says, and concludes: “It’s all about debauchery, turpitude, depravity, hedonism.”
