RhoDeo 1238 Aetix

Hello, Aetix time in the spotlight today a very busy body who has produced 30 something in albums in the 34 years he's been on the scene, clearly the man doesn't need any extra stimulus and i suppose he ain't someone to chill out with. Elvis Costello, to be honest here, after his first four albums that came in rapid succession I kinda lost sight of him as there was so much more and I dislike those intellektual fans that made him their hero, never liked pretentious people waring those silly glasses either. Anyway here today are his first albums, that said i deliberately omitted the best seller, This Years Model, who wants to go to Chelsea anyway ?   Njoy...

Declan Patrick Aloysius McManus alias Elvis Costello started out in a pubrock vain in a band called Flip City from 1974 through early 1976. Around this time, MacManus adopted the stage name D.P. Costello. After successfully landing a demo at Stiff records. His manager at Stiff, Jake Riviera, suggested a name change, to Elvis Costello. Costello's first album, My Aim Is True (1977), was a moderate commercial success with Costello appearing on the cover in his trademark oversize glasses, bearing a striking resemblance to a menacing Buddy Holly. Originally marketed as a punk artist, as the term new wave was applied to the first post-punk bands, Costello was classified as new wave for a time. The same year, Costello recruited his own permanent band, The Attractions, consisting of Steve Nieve (born Steve Nason; piano), Bruce Thomas (bass guitar), and Pete Thomas (unrelated to Bruce Thomas; drums). He released his first major hit single, "Watching The Detectives" . This Year's Model, Costello's first album recorded with the Attractions, was released in the spring of 1978. A rawer, harder-rocking record than My Aim Is True, it was also a bigger hit, the following year, Armed Forces was a more musically diverse album than either of his previous records. It was another hit, "Oliver's Army," the first single from the album, reached number two in Britain. In the summer of 1979, Costello produced the self-titled debut album by the Specials. In February of 1980, the soul-influenced Get Happy!!  the first record released on Riviera's new record label, F-Beat. Costello and the Attractions released Trust in early 1981; it was his fifth album in a row produced by Nick Lowe.

Jumping 22 very active years (19 albums) to 2003, when Costello returned with North, a collection of classically styled pop songs pitched halfway between Gershwin and Sondheim. The next year, he collaborated with his new wife, Diana Krall, on her first collection of original material, The Girl in the Other Room. That fall, Costello released two albums of original material: a classical work entitled Il Sogno and the concept album The Delivery Man, a rock & roll record cut with the Imposters. My Flame Burns Blue from 2006 was a live album with Costello fronting the 52-piece jazz orchestra the Metropole Orkest. On the album, classic Costello songs with new orchestral arrangements appeared alongside new compositions and a performance of the entire Il Sogno. The River in Reverse, a collaboration with R&B legend Allen Toussaint, arrived in 2006, followed by Momofuku, another effort credited to Elvis Costello & the Imposters, in 2008. That same year, Costello teamed up with veteran producer T-Bone Burnett for a series of recording sessions, the results of which were compiled into Secret, Profane & Sugar Cane and readied for release in early 2009. The pair also recorded a second album, National Ransom, which appeared the following year. In 2011 Costello & the Imposters released The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook!!!, which was recorded live over a two-day stint at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.

Over his career, Costello's musical eclecticism has distinguished his records and have shown him to be one of the most innovative, influential, and best songwriters who supports his fiercely literate lyrics with richly diverse music.

Elvis Costello was as much a pub rocker as he was a punk rocker and nowhere is that more evident than on his debut, My Aim Is True. His sensibility is borrowed from the pile-driving rock & roll and folksy introspection of pub rockers like Brinsley Schwarz, adding touches of cult singer/songwriters like Randy Newman and David Ackles. Then, there's the infusion of pure nastiness and cynical humor, which is pure Costello. That blend of classicist sensibilities and cleverness make this collection of shiny roots rock a punk record -- it informs his nervy performances and his prickly songs. Of all classic punk debuts, this remains perhaps the most idiosyncratic because it's not cathartic in sound, only in spirit. Which, of course, meant that it could play to a broader audience, and Linda Ronstadt did indeed cover the standout ballad "Alison." Still, there's no mistaking this for anything other than a punk record, and it's a terrific one at that, since even if he buries his singer/songwriter inclinations, they shine through as brightly as his cheerfully mean humor and immense musical skill; he sounds as comfortable with a '50s knockoff like "No Dancing" as he does on the reggae-inflected "Less Than Zero." Costello went on to more ambitious territory fairly quickly, but My Aim Is True is a phenomenal debut, capturing a songwriter and musician whose words were as rich and clever as his music.

After releasing and touring the intense This Year's Model, Elvis Costello quickly returned to the studio with the Attractions to record his third album, Armed Forces. In contrast to the stripped-down pop and rock of his first two albums, Armed Forces boasted a detailed and textured pop production, but it was hardly lavish. However, the more spacious arrangements -- complete with ringing pianos, echoing reverb, layered guitars, and harmonies -- accent Costello's melodies, making the record more accessible than his first two albums. Perversely, while the sound of Costello's music was becoming more open and welcoming, his songs became more insular and paranoid, even though he cloaked his emotions well. Many of the songs on Armed Forces use politics as a metaphor for personal relationships. It's a dense but accessible pop record and ranks as his third masterpiece in a row.

Get Happy!! was born as much from sincere love for soul, it resulted in a 20-song blue-eyed soul tour de force, where Costello doesn't just want to prove his love, he wants to prove his knowledge. So, he tries everything, starting with Motown and Northern soul, then touching on smooth uptown ballads and gritty Southern soul, even finding common ground between the two by recasting Sam & Dave's "I Can't Stand Up (For Falling Down)" as a careening stomper. What's remarkable is that this approach dovetails with the pop carnival essayed by Armed Forces, standing as a full-fledged Costello record instead of a genre exercise. As it furiously flits through 20 songs, Costello's cynicisms, rage, humor, and misanthropic sensibility gel remarkably well. Some songs may not quite hit their targets, but that's part of the album's charm -- it moves so fast that its lesser songs rush by on the way to such full-fledged masterpieces as "New Amsterdam," "High Fidelity," and "Riot Act." Get Happy!! bursts with energy and invention, standing as a testament to how Costello, the pop encyclopedia, can reinvent the past in his own image.

RhoDeo 1238 Roots

Hello, it's been 3 months since we left that island with a huge place in the global music catalogue, Jamaica. Plenty of time to drift towards the UK, thanks to the gulfstream. Plenty of Jamaicans found there way to UK shores and set up shop there. One of the labels that came to be was On U sound, Adrian Sherwood having been infected with the reggae/dub virus in the decade preceding decided it was time for the UK to get their heads rung by the massive tech-dub sounds.

For starters a ON U supergroup Singers & Players. I try out a new host as well, Filecoud.io let me know if it works for you.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

The early eighties saw what was perhaps the most feverish bout of recording, and corresponding leaps in musical development, for the young record producer Adrian Maxwell Sherwood and his new On-U Sound label. Licensing deals were in place with the likes of the Cherry Red organisation and Situation 2 and there was a fresh determination brought to keep control of all the aspects of the business.

The Singers And Players, as implied by their name, were not a band but a loose collective, and therefore a contribution to what was to become an On-U Sound tradition. At this time Sherwood held a vision that around fifteen to twenty musicians, all friends / lovers / musical co-conspirators, could revolve around one axis, creating five or six touring and recording bands, taking money off as many big record companies as possible, all sharing the same vaguely subversive but essentially gentle visions, all driven forward by the pulse and vibration of drum and bass, all willing to lose time in space of echo and reverb, all coming in from different musical and cultural directions. Of course this was the crazed dream of a slightly demented idealist and was never fated to work out - at least not to the letter!

The original concept behind the formation of the Singers And Players was therefore not just the creation of a reggae "super group" but an attempt to bring together a loose collective of vocalists, DJs, musicians and engineers to record and tour under the same banner. In so doing this would provide a common level of support and a platform for them to maintain their individual careers whilst avoiding the mistake of over-recording, a common problem which has plagued so many reggae artists.

In November 1981 the extended, bass-dominated workouts that dominated the debut "War Of Words" set (ON-U LP 5) must have sounded like the bizarre noises received from a blazing comet rapidly travelling away from the orbit of Planet Earth, a much safer place where sound was increasingly being sucked through a process to provide a comfortable dose of the slightly dangerous for an audience that was growing more and more immune to the sucker punch.

Recorded in 1981 the follow-up "Revenge Of The Underdog" album (ON-U LP 11) combined vocal and DJ talents of Bim Sherman and Lizard Logan with Prince Far I and Jah Woosh. Trademark On-U dub outings were also in evidence from Sherwood - it being important to note that at the time these were being regarded by some of London's reggae-critical mafia as "excessive white boy studio doodlings" and not an early clue to the new direction. The music did and still does dash away the ramblings of those more suited to reviewing garden furniture.

By 1983 the On-U Sound megacorp was truly full stride with the release of "Staggering Heights" (ON-U LP 23). Featuring an all star line-up, with the newly arrived Mikey Dread and Congo Ashanti Roy joining stalwarts Prince Far I and Bim Sherman as the "Singers", this strictly reggae album marked a level of creative production in the genre which set a high standard to be lived up to in the future.

Congo Ashanti Roy was brought to On-U Sound by his friend Mikey Dread and both were contemporary contributors to the Singers And Players' family, arriving in the UK from the States in the early eighties. Ashanti Roy was, along with Cedric Myton and Watty Burnett, part of the trio which constituted the legendary Congos who had collaborated with Lee Perry in producing the masterpiece that was "Heart Of The Congos".

Mikey Dread (a.k.a. Michael Campbell) first achieved a certain notoriety via his Saturday night radio show on JBC - "Dread At The Controls". Two of his three contributions for On-U Sound were self-referential, "Autobiography" was almost a follow-up to his "School Days" for this album.

Re-recordings of both "Breaking Down The Pressure" and "Autobiography" went on to appear on 1984's "Leaps And Bounds" set on Cherry Red (ON-U LP 33). In both sound and core personnel this was the last of the "original" S&P albums and was dedicated to Prince Far I who had been brutally murdered at his Jamaican home in September of the previous year. This tragic event was to profoundly affect Adrian Sherwood, who for several years after produced very little reggae-flavoured output.

By the time 1988's "Vacuum Pumping" album (ON-U LP 39) was unleashed on the public On-U Sound had moved-on both musically and in terms of its core band of supporting musicians and vocalists. While long-timers Bim Sherman and Lizard Logan were still in-effect, many new contributors like Style Scott (of Dub Syndicate), Akabu and Bonjo I (of African Head Charge) were now playing a part in the mix. It was perhaps then unrealistic for the set to be anything other than a departure from what had come before. Consequently it was the last original album released under the S&P banner.

It says much for the vision, freedom of playing and the sheer energy which went into particularly the early Singers And Players productions that, like jazz, blues and much other so-called genre playing, the music still retains that certain ingredient which still makes them sound fresh today.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

The short-lived Singers & Players were something of a reggae supergroup, comprised of various top-notch studio players (among them several members of the legendary Roots Radics) and a revolving lineup of singers including, at various times, Bim Sherman and the gravel-voiced DJ Prince Far I. Revenge of the Underdog was the follow-up to War of Words, and was one of the more important early production efforts by the very young Adrian Sherwood. There really is not a single weak track here: Lizard Logan, Prince Far I and Bim Sherman all take turns working over the rhythm from "Dungeon" by the Wailing Souls; Prince Far I delivers two of his most indelible performances with the stern "Prodigal Son" and the more light-hearted "Water the Garden." Bim Sherman's wispy voice is showcased to fine effect on the sufferer's anthem "Too Much Work Load." On every track, Sherwood spins his glistening web of intrusive, hyperactive magic, a production approach that would never work for anyone else but almost always does for him. No reggae collection should be without this one.

Like Revenge of the Underdog and War of Words, Staggering Heights provides just a taste of Singers & Players' magic.  On this set,  Prince Far I,  Bim Sherman,  Mikey Dread, and Congo Ashanti Roy (formerly of  The Congos) are featured, with the latter surprisingly grabbing top honors, with his enjoyable "Snipers in the Street" and the classic "African Blood" .  A pair of superb DJ tunes rounds out the best of this album: Prince Far I's playful yet insightful "Bedward the Flying Preacher" and Mikey Dread's "School Days."  Prince Far I's "Autobiography" (not to be confused with Singers & Players' "Autobiography (Dread Operator)" on the Dub Xperience: The Dread Operators collection), however, is a bit dull for me.  Although he talks straight through "Bedward," it works there because the music is so intoxicating.

Hello, I hope you all enjoyed a nice quiet sunday, autumn storms are gathering and considering all the financial dirt that has been held back these last years, should the dam break hmm.., but then some openly suggest to have a nice world war 3 to clear the decks, topped up by a nasty virus. That would certainly do it for those nasty 1%, and their support, clear 6 billion of this planet and own the world. Considering the Maya understood a new world would start on the 21st of december this year why not make it a selffulfilling prophecy...

Ok for entertaining, some ghosts of ancient past, in 5 parts the legacy of Atlantis.

In cooperation with the author, producer Gerd Elion von Attiqua(Germany) has worked out a masterpiece about the secret history of the Atlantic Freemasons and Illuminati in this video series. The series was shot in five different countries (Australia, Austria, Tasmania, Germany, USA) and in 1996 it was produced in both German and English.  The series was faced tremendous opposition from secret political networks and both the producer and the author were threatened.

Milleniums have passed... since the high culture of Atlantis sank with a catastrophe through power abuse of some corrupt scientists. All humans of that time, who also experienced the descent into the dark age, are being reincarnated today. The thrilling documentation shows the return of the Atlantean light children and allows deep insight into the role of the lightworkers and brotherhoods of Atlantis. It shows why some souls reincarnate today and act as environmental protectionists, therapists, artists, esoterics etc. for the healing of the earth. Addresses also the Space Brotherhood events --11:11, the hollow earth, Shambhala and Agharta..

Hello, yes after 3 months it's time to get the ball rolling again, nasty virus that. Well that machine is still out of order but this new one is doing the business now and as it is somewhat faster converting goes much faster too, not that that ever was a bottleneck. Anyway these last months there was much distraction for a live sports lover like me, hardly a chance to get bored. One of the most amazing things i saw was a chinese swimmer without arms winning gold (dolphin style). China won the most medals at the paralympics and totally out classed the USA. I'm afraid this shows the morally bankrupt nature of that country. Athletes with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities, including mobility disabilities, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy just don't get the support which is not only sad for them but for the country as well, because becoming aware of the adversities these people had to overcome is most inspiring. The human spirit at work..

Restarting Rho Xs today is a Norwegian from the internet age, he choose a unique name deriving it from Amethyst a much worshipped crystal, considered extravagance in violet, Moses even described it as a symbol of the Spirit of God. Combining it with ium means Google won't have you confused, he's easy to find then this Øystein Ramfjord. He made another smart move by posting free tracks at MP3.com, later even selling thru it, the respons he got, got him noticed and signed to then EMI subsidiary Neurodisc Records. Yes yes all from a provincial fjordharbour city, Trondheim. He's got a Youtube channel and of cause the obligatory facebook and twitter space, a selfmade internet artist...

Amethystium is a music project created by Norwegian composer and producer Øystein Ramfjord, usually featuring guest performers. Characterized by a melodic and atmospheric fusion of electronic and organic sounds, the music crosses genres like electronica, world music, ambient and neoclassical darkwave, with moods ranging from upbeat or relaxing to dark and melancholic.

Øystein's real start would be when he was around 14 and got "obsessed" with recording my own compositions and ideas, using a keyboard with a basic internal sequencer, a guitar, and a stereo tape recorder that enabled him to record two separate mono tracks. First few years playing alongside with others in groups, but eventually it just took over completely. Being a bit of a control freak has something to do with it. As he started listening to other electronic based music, he began to get a better idea of what he wanted to do musically, and Amethystium grew out of that. The first songs that would later be released were completed in 1998, and the first demo was recorded in late 1999.

After starting out independently with a demo release that quickly garnered a following through word of mouth and a strong respons to the free downloads at MP3.com, Amethystium got signed to then EMI subsidiary Neurodisc Records. The first three albums all charted on the American Billboard charts, and sold over 100.000 copies worldwide. In 2006 a retrospective compilation titled “Emblem (Selected Pieces)” was released, and the long awaited fourth studio album came in 2008, titled Isabliss.

Several mini-releases have been planned for 2012, and a new full-length album is also in the works.

Ethereal daydream electronica beautifully adorned with female voices, world sounds and distinctive effects. Amethystium builds tracks around twinkling liquid arpeggios, misty synthesiser washes and lush programmed beats - around these basic structures wordless voices weave various spells - gregorian choirs, breathy female tones, ethnic chants - then across everything keening, wistful melodies or emotive piano lines fill the air with memorable themes, audio fantasies that ignite the imagination. Oystein is as adept at creating soft magical interludes of gentle quietude as he is at building swelling climactic passages of grandeur - the rhythmic structures - muted hits, pitchshifted loops, effected crunches, frequent variation and shifts of emphasis - a lot of attention has been given to making the beats interesting.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

It is obvious that Amethystium has been a good student of the sonic and emotional styles of his 'musical elders', because this album both invokes and transcends them all. One can clearly hear the homage to these various musical works in the body of the album, but it also has a unique voice of its own. This is clearly the mature flowering of this genre- a climb to a well-developed high point of sonic excellence. For a first outing, it is awesome.

The sonic landscape is a very eclectic one: Middle Eastern blends with Celtic, and Sanskrit chants segue over to Gregorian chants. A familiar sample of Tibetan/Nepalese street sounds accents a couple of the cuts (Avalon and Lhasa)- one I recognized from Delirium's Karma: Enchantment. Clearly, there is a lot of creative cross-pollination in World Fusion today. I love it- one sample from an old Tibetan field recording or Gregorian chant can say entirely different things in different musical settings.

To fulfill your daily triva quota, "Odonata" is the scientific term for "dragonfly" (more specifically, it's the Order to which all dragonfly species belong).

Neatly avoiding the dreaded sophomore slump, Norwegian artist Øystein Ramfjord, who records as Amethystium, has released Aphelion, another immediately accessible and enjoyable collection of delectable ear candy. Once again, he shows a deft hand at crafting songs full of infectious beats, melodic hooks, and interesting subtleties.

So, what's new here? Actually, quite a bit. Ramfjord incorporates more overt vocals on some tracks (which may or may not sit well with everyone - personally, I liked the additional singing most of the time) and he also adds some new world fusion wrinkles here and there (such as the opening tabla on "Garden of Sakuntala"). Of course, fans of his first effort (Odonata) won't be disappointed by songs like the opening "Shadow to Light" which opens with haunting female choruses on top of a bed of liquid synths, only to have some rapid-fire broken beats enter the mix, followed soon by one of Ramfjord's patented synth sounds echoing out a lonely plaintive refrain.

From the bubbling sexiness of "Exultation" to the glitch-ambient touches that grace the opening of "Gates of Morpheus" to the percolating synths, shuffling high hats, and sultry wordless vocals of "Shibumi," this album begs to be cranked up and grooved to, either on your living room floor or in your car cruising down the highway.

More trivia "aphelion": an object's solar orbit, the point which at which it is farthest from the sun.

This is the fourth album in the unfolding Amethystium story - the fifth if you count the compilation Emblem. Once more Neurodisc are the chosen label for the Norwegian bedroom artist turned producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist. If you have heard Øystein Ramfjord's previous albums you'll know what to expect - although the dragonfly trilogy, as it came to be known, was concluded with Evermind, the trademark sound is still all here, just better.

Dreamy fairy tale soundscapes delivered with lush melodic electronica and ethereal female vocals. Amethystium has deepened and developed his sound with this latest offering - the arrangements are confident and sweeping, the instrumental work lucid and bright, the vision clearer than ever. Now the vocals are mostly specially recorded performances from such singers as Lee Nisbet, Stine Mari Langstrand and Irina Mikhailova. The gorgeous downtempo beats are still multifaceted and evolving - those low key muted interlude grooves punctuating the shadows. The synth work is multi-layered; repeating phrases and arpeggios rolling over expansive pads and strings, chimes and little metalic notes twinkling in the background - warm melodies and strong themes demanding the attention, then dropping away into gentleness and quiet corners. On Isabliss the synthetics are accompanied by some deftly interwoven electric guitars and keening violins.

Following the catastrophe in Atlantis all nations were dispersed. A part of the Atlantean brotherhood's secret knowledge survived in Egypt, in India and in Tibet. The heirs of these secret brotherhoods led mankind during the dark age...through Atlantean knowledge and through all ages. In modern times the Freemasons, Templars and Illuminati brotherhoods were formed. After World War I the Neutemplerorden and Thule society emerged in Munich and Vienna. New occult sects which saw 'satan' in the old Freemason lodges. With Hitler these occult sects came to power. This thrilling documentation shows for the first time the background of the Third Reich and its intellect which led to the catastrophy of World War II.

The legend narrates: Thousands of years ago the gods came down to Earth from the stars to initiate a genesis. Human civilization was formed and reached a peak with Atlantis. A dark age began and the battle of Atlantean gods led to its fall. A secret brotherhood brought Atlantean secret teachings before the fall to Egypt. Through all civilizations and with inspiration from extraterrestrian guards the secret Atlantean brotherhood managed all political systems with an educational mission. The thrilling documentation shows for the first time the secret activities of a brotherhood in relations with invisible masters from Shambhala and Agharta and the secret about the hollow earth.
Incredible real footage from Tasmania island.

Interviews: Erich von Däniken, Prof. Hurtak, Wladimir Tarzisky, Wendell Stevens, Howard and Conni Menger, USA

Hello, well my computer is still out of order. The olympics ended with a great closing ceremony, underlining that Great Britain is not just a great sports country but it's artists have earned plenty of gold aswell. An amazing 2,5 hour live show, well worth a download- seek the BBC version-little comment and no breaks. As for the final medals table, USA topped it again, for how lomg i wonder, as they seem mostly dependant on swimming and black female athletes these days without these the US is a mediocre sports nation. Lot's of negative vibes aswell about NBC's coverage. Well Rio is in the same timezone as New York so maybe next time...  If there is one.

Just read some mixed comments on tonight closing hmm there's even idiots stating that the phoenix at the flame extinguishing somehow was satanic, shamelessly ignorant religious nutters. I suppose Christ not only died for their sins but their ignorance aswell. Well i liked it, even if there were some artists of the not my cup of tea kind.

Hello, well my computer is still out of order, and sports, Olympic currently have kept me from what has to be done, i just love live tv and sports delivers most of that, unexpected things happening although tonight lightning struck again but then it is known that people who have been struck have a higher chance of being struck again (fact) so Bolt did it again and he will be the prime candidate to win the 100m in 4 years time. What happened at the tennis this afternoon was surprising but maybe not as much, as the 30 year old body of Federer clearly lacked enough recuperation power and the mind went with it, at least it was a match of sorts. Which was more than could be said of the female finale 'butch' williams mercilessly stamped her authority on the slender body of sharapova like a true 'brave' american. Enough of that i hardly watched the tennis plenty of other sports going on like badminton, fencing weightlifting, gymnastics where i found out this afternoon that how you do it is more important than what you do (how dissapointing).

Hello, well my computer is still out of order, and I am away on holiday (sort of) but then the internet is everywhere.Watched the opening of the Olympics a somewhat chaotic spectacle with some good surprises, the walk in of 204 countries took some of the fun out of it not withstanding some Underworld rhythms to them, highlight for me was the lighting of that spectacular alternative cauldron, it will be hard for the British athletes to surpass that.

Hello, well my computer is still out of order, I build in my partly reformatted hard disk and now  a catch 22,  bootmgr is missing and my XP cd won't boot so no recovery possible as of yet, sigh..to be continued. How weeks fly by. Today the Tour De France ended with the first ever victory of a Brit, Wiggens the smiling sideburned robot on wheels. He was treated to a painful God Save the Queen, was it a French snub or just idiosyncrasy.

Meanwhile Alonso proved his determination again and won another F1 Grand Prix and to add to festivities his biggest rival, Vettel was relegated from 2nd place to fifth for evading and not crashing into no 3 Button. Well they've been saying for years Ferrari has the judges on their side..an extra 10 points for Alonso then. Saw some golf to, a cruel game, the leader lost 700,000 pounds at the finishline, i suppose that's why they call it a rich man's game. Dispicable amount of pricemoney to be had for hitting the ball with an expensive stick. I guess that's what's meant by trickle down by those amoral 1%.

Hello, well i've been procrastinating, distracted by tennis and soccer as well as making a small dent in my back catalogue of about 100 movies, normally posting takes up most of the free-time. I did get me an up to-date XP Pro, now I really have to get my old system back up again, consider not having played any music for weeks-shocking.

Meanwhile I have the last episode of the Hitchhikers Guide to keep your spirits up.

 xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Here is the BBC television adaptation of Douglas Adams's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy broadcast in January and February 1981 on BBC Two. The adaptation follows the original radio series in 1978 and 1980. The series stars Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, David Dixon as Ford Prefect, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox and Sandra Dickinson as Trillian. The voice of the guide is by Peter Jones. Simon Jones, Peter Jones, Stephen Moore and Mark Wing-Davey had already provided the voices for their characters in the original radio series in 1978/80. In addition, the series features a number of notable cameo roles, including Adams himself on several occasions.

Although initially thought by BBC executives to be unfilmable, the series was successfully produced and directed by Alan J. W. Bell and went on to win a Royal Television Society award as Most Original Programme of 1981, as well as several BAFTA awards for its graphics and editing.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

The series final episode.

Just before the supercool all-black ship crashes into a sun, Zaphod, Trillian, Ford, and Arthur escape in a teleport module that they convince Marvin to stay behind and operate. He is still on the ship when it heads into the sun. Ford and Arthur arrive without Zaphod and Trillian on a spaceship carrying millions people in cryogenic pods. The ship's inhabitants are from Golgafrincham; they are all "middle men"; i.e. the people that the smart Golgafrinchams (the "thinkers" and the "doers") back home wanted to get rid of.

The ship lands on pre-historic Earth. Ford realizes that the Golgafrinchams, not the primitive cave dwellers already on the planet, are the ones that will evolve into the human race. The episode ends with the two friends lamenting the eventual destruction of the Earth. The regular theme music follows the song "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong.

After an initial period of confusion, the four travelers find they have been transported forward in time to just before the end of the universe. They are in Milliways, the "Restaurant at the End of the Universe," which was built on the ruins of Magrathea. So, as Arthur says, they have traveled through time but not through space. Waiting for them is Marvin the depressed robot, who they left on Magrathea millions of years ago. He's now an attendant at the car park, and still depressed. Just before the universe ends, Zaphod and Ford get Marvin to help them steal a supercool all-black spaceship, which turns out to be the property of a very loud rock band called "Disaster Area." The episode ends on the cliff-hanger as the black ship is about to start a dive into the sun of Kakrafoon.

Slartibartfast shows Arthur the archive tapes of Deep Thought being given the "Search for the Ultimate Answer" and of the result reported by the computer seven and a half million years later. After learning that the Earth was set up to search for the "Ultimate Question," Slartibartfast and Arthur join Ford, Trillian, Zaphod, and Trillian's mice, who had guided them to Magrathea.
The mice dismiss Slartibartfast, then express their desire to extract the "Ultimate Question" by first extracting Arthur's brain. While the mice attempt to strike a deal, the Galactic Police arrive, and Ford, Arthur, Trillian and Zaphod flee the dining hall, only to be cornered by the police in a large bay. After a misunderstanding, the police continue to fire on a computer bank behind which the four are hiding, which explodes, ending the episode on a cliffhanger.

Zaphod has been explaining to Ford that he has found the legendary planet of Magrathea, whilst Trillian tends to a pair of white mice. Zaphod orders the computer to land on the planet surface.

Before long, they receive a transmission from the Commercial Council of Magrathea, informing them that the planet is closed for business and asking them to leave. They ignore this and later receive another message, noting that nuclear missiles have been sent at the ship. Attempts to evade the missiles fail, and Arthur uses the ship's Infinite Improbability Drive, which ends up turning the missiles into a very surprised looking whale and a bowl of petunias. Trillian discovers that during the chaos, her mice escaped.

The five characters go onto the surface, where they find it desolate. Zaphod suggests that the Magratheans lived beneath the surface of the planet. They split into two groups — Trillian, Zaphod and Ford explore a tunnel, whilst Arthur and Marvin remain on the surface. Trillian, Zaphod and Ford's thread ends on a cliff-hanger, with them seeing something alarming at the end of the corridor.

Hello, well i've fallen victim to a nasty ransom virus, it means my working pc is out of order for the time being. This back up pc i got from the bedroom isn't synced, no passwords and shit and windows was doing 68 updates, sound not working, in short i need my regular machine back. That however i a very complicated proces according to what i've been able to discern, a very nasty piece of trojan virus that escaped my scanner. As things stand i suppose a clean reinstall looks the fastest way to get back. Yet having to do some more i don't expect to be fully up and running again before the weekend.

I do have an episode of the Hitchhikers Guide to keep your spirits up

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

The episode opens with a recap of the story, with Ford and Arthur about to be captured. After being read Vogon poetry, they are thrown out of an airlock and improbably rescued by the Starship Heart of Gold, which has been stolen by Ford's semi-cousin Zaphod Beeblebrox, accompanied by Trillian, a young woman who Arthur once met at a party. Ford and Arthur are escorted to the bridge by Marvin the Paranoid Android and meet Zaphod and Trillian. The episode ends after they are introduced, with no cliffhanger.

Hello, as the brits prepare to celebrate their 'lizard' queen who after 60 years still seems reluctant to let go, I fully expect her to go for 75 years, after all she'd only be 100 by then and would have seen off most subjects alive at her crowning.  Looks like the weather won't play ball though, it's more like March this weekend, a dreary perspective for the party. Oh well the dead come back to dance here....

Dead Can Dance (sometimes referred to as DCD) were an ambient, world music band which formed in Melbourne, Australia, in August 1981. Its mainstays were Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry. The band relocated to London in May 1982 and disbanded in 1998, but reunited temporarily for a world tour in 2005. Their 1996 album Spiritchaser reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top World Music Albums Chart. Australian music historian Ian McFarlane described Dead Can Dance as having an ambient style of world music that "constructed soundscapes of mesmerising grandeur and solemn beauty... with African polyrhythms, Gaelic folk, Gregorian chants, Middle Eastern mantras and art-rock".

Dead Can Dance formed in Melbourne, Australia, in August 1981 with Paul Erikson on bass guitar, Lisa Gerrard (ex-Microfilm) on vocals, Simon Monroe (Marching Girls) on drums and Brendan Perry on vocals and guitar. Gerrard and Perry were also a domestic couple and they left Erikson and Monroe in Australia when they moved to London in May 1982, where they signed with alternative rock label 4AD Records. With the duo, the initial United Kingdom line-up were James Pinker, Scott Rodger and Peter Ulrich. The group's debut album, Dead Can Dance, which appeared in February 1984, was produced by the band. The artwork, which depicts a ritual mask from New Guinea, "provide[s] a visual reinterpretation of the meaning of the name Dead Can Dance". The album "featured drum-driven, ambient guitar music with chanting, singing and howling".They followed with a four-track extended play, Garden of the Arcane Delights in August.which saw them plunging into a wider range of music and style, in fact it set them on their musical style.

For their second album, Spleen and Ideal, the group comprised the core duo of Gerrard and Perry with cello, trombones and tympani added in by session musicians. It appeared in November 1985 and was co-produced by the duo with John A. Rivers Raggett describes it as "a consciously medieval European sound ... like it was recorded in an immense cathedral". The group built a following in Europe, and this album reached No. 2 on the UK indie charts. By 1989, Gerrard and Perry had separated domestically – Gerrard returned to Australia and Perry moved to Ireland – but they still wrote, recorded and performed together as Dead Can Dance.

For the next two years, Dead Can Dance were relatively quiet, releasing only two new songs in 1986, both which appeared on the 4AD compilation Lonely Is an Eyesore. Within the Realm of a Dying Sun, the group's third album, appeared in 1986. In 1988, the band released their fourth album, The Serpent's Egg, and wrote the score for the Agustin Villarongas film El Nino de la Luna, which also featured Lisa Gerrard in her acting debut. Aion, Dead Can Dance's fifth album, was released in 1990. Also in 1990, the group toured America for the first time, earning rave reviews. The following year, the group was involved in various festivals and theatrical productions. In 1991, the compilation A Passage in Time was released on Rykodisc, making it the first American release of Dead Can Dance music. Early in 1993, the group provided the score to Baraka and contributed songs to Zazou's Sahara Blue.

Their sixth studio album, Into the Labyrinth, was issued in September 1993 and dispensed with guest musicians entirely; it sold 500,000 copies worldwide and appeared on the Billboard 200. It was a cult success throughout the U.S. and Europe, making them 4AD's highest selling act. They followed with a world tour in 1994 and recorded a live performance in California which was released as Toward the Within, with video versions on Laserdisc and VHS (later on DVD). Many unofficial bootlegs of concerts spanning their career exist, containing several rare songs that were only performed live. Toward the Within is the duo's only official live album. Gerrard released her debut solo recording, The Mirror Pool, and recombined with Perry for the Dead Can Dance studio album, Spiritchaser, in 1996.The album also charted on Billboard 200 and reached No. 1 on the Top World Music Albums Chart.

In 1998, Dead Can Dance planned a follow-up to Spiritchaser, but the band separated before it was realised. One song from the recording sessions, "The Lotus Eaters", was eventually released on the box set Dead Can Dance (1981-1998) and on the 2-disc compilation Wake (2003). Gerrard teamed with Pieter Bourke (Snog, Soma) to issue Duality in April 1998. Perry released Eye of the Hunter in October 1999. DCD reunited in 2005 and released limited-edition recordings of 13 shows from its European tour, and 8 recordings from the subsequent North American tour, as well as a compilation titled Selections from Europe 2005. These concerts were recorded and released on The Show record label.

On 28 March 2010, in an interview for Bulgaria’s Katehizis.com online music magazine, Perry revealed the possibility of a future Dead Can Dance reunion: "Yes, I’ve been talking about it with Lisa [Gerrard]. Maybe in the end of next year we’ll start work again. We’ve been talking about doing something like taking a small chamber orchestra – 10 or 15 people – and tour with them. And we have to write songs. We have to write new material – totally new – so the whole, entire set will be a new album. Then we’ll go into the studio after the tour, record, produce and release a record as well.

With its two sides split between Perry and Gerrard's vocal efforts, Within the Realm of a Dying Sun serves as both a display for the ever more ambitious band and a chance for the two to individually demonstrate their awesome talents. Beginning with the portentous "Anywhere Out of the World," a piece that takes the deep atmospherics to a higher level with mysterious, chiming bells, simple but effective keyboard bass and a sense of vast space, the album finds Dead Can Dance on a steady roll. Once again a range of assistant musicians provide even more elegance and power to the band's work, with a chamber string quartet plus various performers on horns, woodwind, and percussion. Impressive though the remainder of the first side is, Gerrard's showcase on the second half is even more enveloping and arguably more successful. The martial combination of drums and horns that start "Dawn of the Iconoclast" call to mind everything from Wagner to Laibach, but Gerrard's unearthly alto, at its most compelling here, elevates it even higher. "Cantara" is no less impressive, a swirling, drum-heavy song that sounds equally inspired by gypsy dancing, classical orchestras and any number of Arab musical traditions.

Perry and Gerrard once again did the business with Aion. Its cover taken from Bosch, Aion's medievalism was worn more openly than ever before, with songs adapted from centuries-old material. The beautiful, entrancing "Saltarello," with lead performance by what sounds like an old wind instrument, comes from an Italian dance of the 14th century, while the mysterious moods of "The Song of the Sibyl" derive from 16th-century Catalonia. The group's command of not merely recording possibilities but of musical traditions, instruments, and more from around the world was arguably never stronger. Gerrard's vocals in particular have an even stronger, richer feeling than before, not merely able to command with its power but softly calm and seduce. Perry, meanwhile, is no less compelling, his ever-strong, wonderful voice perfectly suited to his choice of material. The standout track is "Fortune Presents Gifts Not According to the Book" with lyrics from a Spanish poet. The musical combination of softly plucked guitar and buried organ drone is striking enough, swathed in reverb, but when Perry steps in with his vocals, matched by more sparkling keyboards, the result is yet another high point for a band laden with them. Guest performers once again assist throughout.

It all begins with yet another jaw-dropper from Gerrard, "Yulunga (Spirit Dance)," with keyboards and her octave-defying voice at such a deep, rich level that it sweeps all before it. Wordless as always but never without emotional heft, the song slowly slides into a slow but heavy percussion piece that sounds a bit like "Bird" from A Passage in Time, but with greater impact and memorability. As the album slowly unwinds over an hour's length, the two again create a series of often astounding numbers that sound like they should be millennia old, mixing and matching styles to create new fusions. Perhaps even more impressive is that everything was performed solely by Perry and Gerrard -- no outside guests here, and yet everything is as detailed, lush, and multifaceted as many of their past albums. New classics from the band appear almost track for track: Gerrard's a cappella work on "The Wind That Shakes the Barley," the gentle beauty of "Ariadne," the rhythmic drive and chants of the title song. The conclusion is a slightly surprising but quite successful cover -- "How Fortunate the Man With None," an adaptation of a classic Bertolt Brecht tune about the turn of fortune's wheel. Given a restrained arrangement and Perry's singing, it brings Labyrinth to a satisfying end.
