RhoDeo 1321 Goldy Rhox 110

Hello, today the 110th post of GoldyRhox, classic rock pop.  Today's focus is on an American singer-songwriter, actor, and author (February 26, 1932 – September 12, 2003) who was considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Although he is primarily remembered as a country music icon, his songs and sound spanned other genres including rockabilly and rock and roll—especially early in his career—and blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal won Cash the rare honor of induction in the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

He was known for his deep, distinctive bass-baritone voice, for the "boom-chicka-boom" sound of his Tennessee Three backing band; for a rebelliousness, coupled with an increasingly somber and humble demeanor, for providing free concerts inside prison walls and for his dark performance clothing, which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black"

Most of the albums i 'll post made many millions for the music industry and a lot of what i intend to post still gets repackaged and remastered decades later, squeezing the last drop of profit out of bands that for the most part have ceased to exist long ago, although sometimes they get lured out of the mothballs to do a big bucks gig or tour. Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accommodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.

Today's mystery album is the fourth album in the American series by todays artist(and his 87th overall), released in 2002. This is the last album released before his death in 2003. The majority of songs are covers which he performs in his own spare style, with help from producer Rick Rubin. He receives backing vocal assistance from various artists, including Fiona Apple, Nick Cave, and Don Henley. It was the final album he released during his lifetime, it was also his first non-compilation album to go gold (selling over 500,000 copies) in thirty years. Additionally, the album won "Album of the Year" award at the 2003 CMA Awards. It was certified Gold on 4/24/2003 and Platinum on 11/21/2003 by the R.I.A.A. The video for "Hurt", a song written by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails in 1994, was nominated in seven categories at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards and won the award for Best Cinematography. The final track on his final album was 'We'll Meet Again" .....

Throughout its numerous lineup changes and textural shifts, Siouxsie and the Banshees remained under the leadership of vocalist Siouxsie Sioux, born Susan Dallion on May 27, 1958. She and the Banshees' initial lineup emerged from the Bromley Contingent, a notorious group of rabid Sex Pistols fans; inspired by the growing punk movement, Dallion adopted the name Siouxsie and formed the Banshees in September 1976. In addition to bassist Steven Severin and guitarist Marco Perroni, the band included drummer John Simon Ritchie, who assumed the name Sid Vicious; they debuted later that year at the legendary Punk Festival held at London's 100 Club. Soon after, Vicious joined the Sex Pistols, while Perroni went on to join Adam & the Ants. The core duo of Sioux and Severin, along with new guitarist John McKay and drummer Kenny Morris, reached the U.K. Top Ten with their 1978 debut single, "Hong Kong Garden"; their grim, dissonant first LP, The Scream, followed later in the year. Two days into a tour for their 1979 follow-up, Join Hands, both McKay and Morris abruptly departed, and guitarist Robert Smith of the Cure (the tour's opening act) and ex-Slits and Big in Japan drummer Budgie were enlisted to fill the void; although Smith returned to the Cure soon after, Budgie became a permanent member of the group, and remained with the Banshees throughout the duration of their career.

Siouxsie Sioux and Steven Severin elected to soldier on with ex-Slits drummer Budgie and two guitarists, ex-Sex Pistol Steve Jones and John McGeoch of Magazine as guest Banshees. Despite the personnel upheaval, the result is a surprisingly strong record: Kaleidoscope. While a number of the songs here are still dark-hued and feature bleak lyrics, they are made very palatable by extraordinarily imaginative production values featuring intricate synthesizer-flecked arrangements; psychedelic touches in "Christine," spaceship synthesizer swoops in "Tenant," and rhythmic camera clicks in "Red Light" all enliven their respective songs. Kaleidoscope was a make-or-break album for Siouxsie and the Banshees, and happily the band came through strongly. A year later, the Banshees released the psychedelic Juju, along with Once Upon a Time, a collection of singles; at the same time, Sioux and Budgie formed the Creatures, an ongoing side project. Following 1982's experimental A Kiss in the Dreamhouse, McGeoch fell ill, and Smith temporarily rejoined for the group's planned tour. Also in 1983, Severin and Smith teamed as the one-off project the Glove for the LP Blue Sunshine.

After his recovery, McGeoch opted not to return, so the Banshees recruited former Clock DVA guitarist John Carruthers after Smith exited following the sessions for 1984's dark, atmospheric Hyaena. With 1986's Tinderbox, Siouxsie and the Banshees finally reached the U.S. Top 100 album charts, largely on the strength of the excellent single "Cities in Dust." After 1987's all-covers collection Through the Looking Glass, Carruthers took his leave and was replaced by guitarist Jon Klein and keyboardist Martin McCarrick for 1988's Peepshow, a techno-inspired outing that gave the group its first U.S. chart single with "Peek-a-Boo." In 1991 -- the year in which Sioux and Budgie married -- the Banshees performed on the inaugural Lollapalooza tour; their concurrent LP, Superstition was their most commercially successful, spawning, "Kiss Them for Me." Another singles collection, Twice Upon a Time, followed in 1992 before the group returned after a long absence with 1995's stylish The Rapture, produced in part by John Cale. A year later, the nostalgia surrounding the reunion of their former heroes the Sex Pistols prompted Siouxsie and the Banshees to finally call it quits; Siouxsie and Budgie turned to the Creatures as their primary project, while Severin composed the score for the controversial film Visions of Extasy.

In 2002 Siouxsie, Severin, Budgie and Chandler reunited for the so-called Seven Year Itch tour, eventually leading to a live album, Seven Year Itch, and a DVD concert film in 2003. Universal Music began releasing the band's albums remastered with bonus tracks in 2006. Voices on the Air: The Peel Sessions, drawn from live recordings made for the John Peel radio show between 1978 and 1986, appeared that same year.

One of the band's masterworks, Juju sees Siouxsie and the Banshees operating in a squalid wall of sound dominated by tribal drums, swirling and piercing guitars, and Siouxsie Sioux's fractured art-attack vocals. If not for John McGeoch's marvelous high-pitched guitars, here as reminiscent of Joy Division as his own work in Magazine, the album would rank as the band's most gothic release. Siouxsie and company took things to an entirely new level of darkness on Juju, with the singer taking delight in sinister wordplay on the disturbing "Head Cut," creeping out listeners in the somewhat tongue-in-cheek "Halloween," and inspiring her bandmates to push their rhythmic witches brew to poisonous levels of toxicity. Album opener "Spellbound," one of the band's classics, ranks among their finest moments and bristles with storming energy. Siouxsie's mysterious voice emerges from dense guitar picking, Budgie lays into his drums as if calling soldiers to war, and things get more tense from there. "Into the Light" is perhaps the only track where a listener gets a breath of oxygen, as the remainder of the album screams claustrophobia, whether by creepy carnival waterfalls of guitar notes or Siouxsie's unsettling lyrics. "Arabian Nights" at least offers a gorgeously melodic chorus, but after that the band performs a symphony of bizarre wailings and freaky imagery. As ominous as the cacophony is on its own, close attention to Siouxsie's nearly subliminal chants paints a scarier picture. A passage such as "I saw you...a huge smiling central face with eyes and lips cut out but smiling and eating lots of other lips" doesn't exactly brighten one's day. Siouxsie is full of such quips throughout the album's running time, but her delivery packs as much punk as her message. Her attack-the-world dynamic range on "Voodoo Dolly" predates and out-weirds Björk's similar styling years later. McGeoch, Budgie, and bassist Steven Severin deserve just as much credit for crafting an original sound that would inspire a diverse group of future bands from Ministry to Placebo. All the while, producer Nigel Gray maintains the sense that the album is an immediate, edgy performance unfolding right in front of the listener. The upfront intensity of Juju probably isn't matched anywhere else in the catalog of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Thanks to its killer singles, unrelenting force, and invigorating dynamics, Juju is a post-punk classic.

A Kiss in the Dreamhouse shows Siouxsie and the Banshees backpedalling a bit from their excellently forthright predecessor, Juju, to update the more avant-garde stylings of Kaleidoscope. This album is in fact the Banshees' crowning glory in this experimental vein. Production and arrangements are highly varied and accomplished, and Sioux's singing by now is excellent, capable of imaginative shadings and free of its former tunelessness. "Obsession" is scored for chimes, overdubbed breathing, swallowed synthesizer sounds, strings, and very occasional guitar touches; this all supports a fine vocal with lyrics about the speaker's fixation on her object of desire. "Green Finger" is a driving, up-tempo number with Joy Division melodic bass, sparkling synthesizer touches, and wacky recorder tootlings. "Painted Bird" features a full helping of multi-tracked vocals propelled by a drumbeat that is alternately skittering and thumping; portions of this song suggest a nightmare version of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way." "Cocoon" is best characterized as mutant bopping jazz with an often breathy, cooing vocal. "She's a Carnival" and "Slowdive" suggest eccentric stabs at mainstream acceptance.

Broadening the eclectically experimental landscape of 1982's Kiss in the Dream House with the occasional string arrangement and a spacious sound mix, Siouxsie and the Banshees' here nicely bridge the gap between the band's handful of more-punk-than-pop early releases and their run of new wave, radio-friendly hits from the late '80s and early '90s. And though echoes of classic albums like Kaleidoscope and JuJu are heard in dark and menacing tracks such as "Bring Me the Head of the Preacher Man" and "Blow Your House Down," the emphasis here is on layered arrangements and pop tunes disguised as art-house production numbers ("Dazzle"); tasteful horn and keyboard parts expand the group's guitar-dominated sound and provide Siouxsie with an airy and dreamlike backdrop in which to fully display her considerable vocal talents. Hyaena qualifies as one of Siouxsie and the Banshees' finest moments.

RhoDeo 1321 Roots

Hello, these past 2 years there has been a weekly dose of reggae here, I estimate about 250 reggae/dub albums have been highlighted, for me the choices have eroded, admittedly there is still a lively reggae scene on Jamaica and beyond but it's output is more drowned out by todays cacaphony and has become a niche once again. Besides, I don't post new work. I'm sure that there will be more from the reggae/dub scene here but on a more occasional basis. For now i will end the series with a number of sampler albums

First up a clear labour of love, a set of ON U sampler albums, carefully compiled...1,2,3 for the road  ....N'joy

RhoDeo 1321 The Falcon 04

Hello, story of the day... No sooner had Nico Rosberg emerged triumphant for Mercedes amid the maelstrom of an accident-strewn Monaco Grand Prix, than his team became engulfed in an extraordinary row over tyres. As their leading rivals erupted in indignation at the disclosure that the Silver Arrows had carried out a private, 600-mile Pirelli test in Barcelona earlier this month, which brought them a 1sec laptime advantage compared to the race two weeks ago.

It would be a pity if Rosberg, who has lived in Monaco all his life and who's father won the race 30 years ago, should have to forfit but it is on the cards. Vettel came in second and felt bored, his direct competion had a bad day, Alonso felt threatened by drivers who had nothing to loose, one of whom cost Iceman Raikonnen his 5th place. A word on Nibali who won the 3 weeks of bad weather Italian Giro today, i've seen this cyclist grow stronger these past years and he showed plenty of reserve and cunning these last weeks. With Nibali Italy has a real racecycling star again.

Sci-fi fans can prepare themselves for 10 weeks of excitement   ... NJoy

The Falcon Banner
By the twenty-second century, mankind had stretched forth its hand to command the stars. Other races were discovered, and, as the human sphere of influence expanded, they were happy to live in peaceful coexistence, and humanity was on the verge of an evolutionary leap.

The Terran emperor was the first to ascend to the next step of human evolution. His advisors, who now styled themselves holy clerics, sought to force the other races to see the light of their religion. They began to subjugate the other races to the will of the empire. The Amsus, who saw the Empire as decadent, illogical and chaotic, waged war upon it. Admiral VonGrippen, the brightest military mind in centuries, betrayed the empire, and removed the entire home fleet, collapsing the jump gate after them, leaving Earth and the Empire to be squashed under the heel of Amsus oppression.

Now, three hundred years after the fall of the Terran Empire, humans find themselves the subject race, Stagnating on their own world unable to evolve either technologically or otherwise. It is into this oppressive world, that the most unlikely of men are thrust into the roles of heros.

Based on The Falcon Banner, a novel by Christopher Patrick Lydon
Original music composed and performed by Kai Hartwig, Kevin MacLeod and Phil Craigie

Hello, the Championsleague final was an all German one, the best team won although unfortunately there was a big mistake by the referee who should have send off Dante with a second yellow, against 10 Bayern Dortmund might have overcome their tiredness and win the game. Meanwhile in Monaco it's F1 weekend again, Rosberg for the third consecutive time on poll, he doesn't expect to win the race as the previous two times he was chanceless in the race. ...more tomorrow.

Today two men from the background, generally unassuming but really present so many times ..... N'Joy

Steve Jansen (born Stephen Batt, 1 December 1959, in Beckenham, Kent, England) is an English drummer, percussionist, singer and composer. He was educated at Catford Boys' School, Catford, South East London, where he failed academically, leaving at 16.
He is best known as a founding member of the group Japan, along with his brother David Sylvian (vocals, guitars and keyboards), Mick Karn (bass guitar), Richard Barbieri (keyboards), and Rob Dean (guitar).

After Japan broke up in 1982, Jansen recorded with bandmate Richard Barbieri under the name The Dolphin Brothers, with Jansen handling lead vocals as well as drums and percussion. In 1991, Jansen, Barbieri, and Karn formed Medium Productions as a venue for releasing their own music, as well as releases by other artists.

Jansen has worked extensively as a session musician and in collaboration with a wide range of international artists, such as Yukihiro Takahashi and Italian singer-songwriter Alice. His most recent project is Nine Horses with David Sylvian and Burnt Friedman. Jansen played drums and percussion on tour with Sylvian through the latter half of 2007. On his first solo album, entitled Slope, Jansen "approached composition attempting to avoid chord and song structures and the usual familiar building blocks. Instead I wanted to piece together unrelated sounds, music samples, rhythms and 'events' in an attempt to deviate from my own trappings as a musician.

Richard Barbieri (born 30 November 1957, in London, England)  was educated at Catford Boys' School, Catford, South East London. Originally coming to prominence in the late-1970s and early-1980s as a member of new wave pioneers Japan (and their brief 1989–1990 reincarnation as Rain Tree Crow), he is now best known as the keyboard player in the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, of which he has been a member since 1993. Despite being known for work in bands with prominent musicianship, Barbieri's key skill lies not in virtuoso instrumental performance, but in developing and processing synthetic electronic sound. This is either generated entirely by keyboard input or by processing a sound source from a musical collaborator.

During his time with Japan, Barbieri worked (with the assistance of lead singer/occasional keyboard player David Sylvian) on programming the band's analogue (and early digital) synthesizers to create original sounds and textures. On record, these were played by whichever member of Japan could interpret the performance best (generally drummer Steve Jansen, as "he had the best timing.") Barbieri would, however, perform the bulk of the keyboard playing live. His keyboard-playing role in Porcupine Tree is similarly split with frontman/producer Steven Wilson, with Barbieri processing the sound of other musicians in the band as well as playing more orthodox keyboard parts.

Despite his emphasis on sonic experimentation, Barbieri is also an accomplished keyboard player who has become more overtly traditional in his playing during his years with Porcupine Tree (and who currently plays electric and acoustic pianos and Mellotrons in addition to his analogue-styled synthesizer work).

After the break-up of Japan, Barbieri continued his association with David Sylvian, playing on the latter's early solo albums (and on the 1986 In Praise Of Shamans tour). During this time he worked alongside such other innovators as Holger Czukay, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Robert Fripp. In 1987 he started a long musical association with another Japan colleague, Steve Jansen. This has produced six collaborative albums to date, initially under the name The Dolphin Brothers (Catch the Fall, 1987) and later as Jansen & Barbieri (including Stories Without Borders, 1993,Worlds in a Small Room, 1996, and Stone to Flesh, 1997).

The Rain Tree Crow collaboration was short-lived due to David Sylvian's assumption of control over the project (which he claims was necessary for financing but which the other members saw as controlling arrogance). The group parted company shortly after recording the album, for which there was no supporting tour. However, the project was key to the reuniting of Jansen, Barbieri and Karn as a creative unit (sometimes referred to as "JBK").

In 1993 Barbieri formed the Medium Productions label in 1993 with Jansen and Karn. Their objective was to enable themselves to create music and collaborate with fellow musicians on projects without record company interference and restriction. They kicked off the label with the Jansen/Barbieri/Karn album Beginning to Melt (a collection of varied pieces including some trio work and other recordings featuring various permutations of the basic trio with other collaborators including David Torn and Robbie Aceto). Thirteen diverse albums were released during a ten-year period; Jansen and Barbieri's collaboration with DJ Takemura on the album Changing Hands being one of the highlights. During this period Barbieri also made two other collaborative albums, one with his wife Suzanne J. Barbieri under the name Indigo Falls (1996), and one with Tim Bowness from the band No-Man titled Flame (1994).

In late 1993 Barbieri joined the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree (having previously played as a guest performer on the album Up the Downstair). The band released eight studio albums to increasingly greater chart success, and toured in support of many of them. Their first major success was the album In Absentia, which enjoyed chart success around Europe with sales of over 120,000. The following studio albums Deadwing and Fear of a Blank Planet met even greater success, charting highly worldwide. The band transitioned somewhat away from metal with their last album, The Incident, with leader Steven Wilson expressing a desire to enter a different genre. They are currently inactive, though with plans to eventually reform.

The new album 'Not The Weapon But The Hand' from Steve Hogarth and Richard Barbieri was released by Kscope Records February 2012. Hogarth is best known as the frontman of Marillion.'Not The Weapon But The Hand' was completed in late 2011 and features appearances from Danny Thompson on double bass, Arran Ahmun (John Martyn) and Chris Maitland (ex Porcupine Tree) on drums and Dave Gregory (XTC) on guitar, bass and string arrangements.

In 2005 he released his debut solo album Things Buried. Although he has made many albums as part of a group, trio or duo, surprisingly this is his first solo work. The instrumental album also features the distinctive performances of Andy Gangadeen on acoustic and electronic drums, and Percy Jones on fretless bass.

Back in 1984, Shortly after the Demise of the Group Japan, Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri were Asked by Jvc to Compose a Soundtrack to One of a Series of 'ambient Videos' to Be Released by the Multi-national Company. Recorded and Mixed in Tokyo, 'worlds in a Small Room' was a Quintessential Ambient Album, Complementing Footage from Space Shuttle Missions, Courtesy of Nasa. The Album Has Become Something of a Rarity. Jansen and Barbieri have Therefore Decided to Re-issue Selected Tracks from the Original Recording, Combining them with New Pieces Specifically Written for this Period. The Resulting 'other Worlds in a Small Room' Combines Original Analogue Recordings (Digitally Re-mastered) with Three New Instrumental Pieces. These Are, in Essence, Solo Recordings Since the Duo Worked Separately Throughout, and were Written and Recorded in Medium's Own Digital Studio.

The Dolphin Brothers feature Steve Jansen, and Richard Barbieri,on their second album together. They released one album Catch the Fall under this moniker in 1987, with Steve Jansen on drums, percussion, keyboards and lead vocals, and Richard Barbieri on keyboards and synthesizers. Additional personnel were: Phil Palmer, David Rhodes (acoustic and electric guitars); B. Heinrich-Keat (electric guitar), Clive Bell (Thai flute, khene, crumhorn); Carrie Booth (piano); Danny Thompson (double bass); Matthew Seligman, Robert Bell (bass); Martin Ditcham (percussion); Suzanne Murphy, Katie Kissoon, P.P. Arnold (backing vocals).

Steve Jansen shows his flair for song writing, and unique approach to vocals, Richard Barbieri doesnt disappoint either, with his wonderful approach to sound and texture. "Catch The Fall" is a collection of both "pop", and some amazingly moving introprosective tunes. The title track opens the album beautifully, I kind of wished they continued the album in this vein, but the following four tracks change the mood to a more uptempo/pop feel. The final three tracks are flawless, totally wonderful, and are the highlight of this album. The mood swings back to the opening track, and you can easily loose yourself in the truley blissful sounds.

One of Steve Jansen and Richard Barbieri's most atmospheric recordings and a good starting point for those unfamiliar with their work, Stories Across Borders is principally a night album in mood -- only two pieces, "When Things Dream" and "Lumen" (Latin for light) are lighter. There is some stunning material, particularly from Barbieri on the penultimate cut, "Nocturnal Sightseeing."

An excellent album of experimentation and improvisation from messes Barbieri and Jansen, of prior Japan fame.  Of all the Japan related solo works and collaborations, this duo seemed the tightest knit and sadly as with a lot of material of this ilk, the album is highly rare and collectable and it seems a shame that such a brilliant record should be forgotten about in this fashion.  Stories Across Borders excels in several fields by virtue of its gorgeous synth soundscape backing and excellent levels of creation and implementation.  Each track sounds suitably different to the next, with the (apt for me at least) The Insomniac's Bed being my favourite because of its menacing piano backbone.

RhoDeo 1320 Beats

Hello, Germany is the most popular country in the world a poll by PIPA and GlobeScan conducted for the BBC of more than 26,000 people worldwide came up with that . In response to the question: 'Tell me if you think each of the following countries is having a mainly positive or mainly negative influence in the world' 59 per cent said positive for the economic powerhouse. More people in Britain also shared the opinion, with favourable attitudes up eight points to 78 per cent, with France the keenest towards its neighbour at 81 per cent. Jawohl !

Well the Germans would have won World War II if they hadn't been led by a mad corporal with the strategic insight of a donkey. But that's all in the past now, today they've been showing the West what they are capable of, they are busy exchanging their nuclear power for renewable energy, as well as driving 200 Mph on parts of their autobahn. You need a decent car for that and they build those too. Last night their women won the Championsleague football and tomorrow the men will win it as there are two German teams in the final. Let's hope all that success don't rise to their head.

Meanwhile we're here for some beats, we've been getting serious and clinical and it should hardly be a surprise we turned to Germans for that, we remain in Berlin following our next Germans in the spotlight, Kraftwerk with guitars, todays band provide a nice fusion of indie-rock instrumentalism and the more minimal end of armchair techno occupied by Autechre and Freeform. The group manage a near-perfect balance of elements, here, coming off neither retro nor pretentious, reserving the occasionally embarrassing artiness of a Stereolab or Tortoise for the subtlety with which they play electronic and acoustical textures off one another..      ..N'joy

To Rococo Rot formed in 1995, when the Lippok brothers (Ronald & Robert) were invited by the owner of a gallery in which they were exhibiting their art to record some music instead of providing a catalogue. Rising to the challenge, they invited bassist Stefan Schneider from up and coming Düsseldorf based Kreidler to join them, and the result was their debut album, released by Kitty-Yo in late 1995. In the years since, they have released two more albums for City Slang (Veiculo and The Amateur View), EPs for City Slang, Sub Pop, Fat Cat and Soul Static Sound, and toured Europe and the US.

They have remixed artists as diverse as Leftfield, Appliance and Mira Calix, found time to produce two radio plays and even a soundtrack to a documentary entitled No Ordinary Cowboy. Stefan Schneider has also released two mini albums under the name Mapstation, while Ronald Lippok continues to work on his acclaimed Tarwater project. Robert Lippok has also just released his debut solo material on Raster Noton Records.

To Rococo Rot were originally among a new breed of German electronic experimentalists working more often within the context of hauptkunst digital art and multimedia installation (prior to meeting Schneider, the Lippoks were behind a project of this sort called Ornament und Verbrechen). With TRR, however, the group described its work as an overt attempt to reconnect the art-school proclivities of musical experimentalism with the accessibility and "use-value" of pop, a goal clearly evident both in their name and their recorded output.

The To Rococo Rot sound is quite unlike any other. Those familiar with their previous work will find that "Music is a hungry ghost" sees the band refine their talent for sumptuous and restrained instrumental soundscapes, underpinned by Stefan Schneider's lugubrious basslines. But it also exhibits even greater skill at resolving the conflict between abstract electronica and contemporary dance music. To Rococo Rot are weaving intricate melodies amongst intimate sounds, whilst maintaining the trademark warmth and elegance that has always lain deep at the heart of their sound. "Kölner Brett" is the name of a building, designed by Cologne architects b&k+ in 2000, that blends living and working in each of its single units. On the occasion of Archilab, an architectural exhibition held at Orleans in May 2001, b&k+ and Staubgold present a musical translation of the "Kölner Brett", composed by To Rococo Rot. The music of To Rococo Rot reflects the architectural grid (twelve equally sized modules giving structure and shape to the building as a whole) as well as the possible individual living and working conditions of the dweller, respectively."

Taken From Vinyl, is a compilation of vinyl-only rarities released over the past ten years. Not only is it their most listenable full-length album, it establishes them as a more successful singles-oriented group. The alternate take on the legendary “Mit Dir in Der Gegend” is a new approach to a classic piece of instrumental post-rock. And “Schon Sehr Viel Telefoniert” provides a new appreciation for the band’s subtle, studied electronic dub sound. ABC One Two Three a mini album was released in 2007 it was the result from a commission related to the 50th anniversary of the Helvetica typeface. Their latest full-length album, Speculation, was released in March 2010.

Including all ten songs from their 1995 self-titled debut plus four extra tracks, To Rococo Rot's Cd. is one of the first post-rock albums which isn't obsessed or weighed down by its own potential as conscious, artistic music (perhaps because of the lack of hype surrounding the band in indie rock quarters). The album doesn't say a whole lot, it just grooves along, recalling the pleasant atmospheres of Tortoise, the groove-oriented bent of Ui and Trans Am, and the minimalist effects of Rome. Though trumped by its follow-up, Veiculo, To Rococo Rot's first album has its own characteristic advantages.

With The Amateur View, To Rococo Rot leaves behind their many fumbling colleagues in the field of post-rock/post-techno to set upon a course of their own, a lush vision of listener electronica. Though the occasional angular guitar repetition is a clear nod to the influence of Tortoise, the trio construct tracks with reams of vintage electronics and a few acoustic instruments, assembling complex songs on a production line of sorts with a variety of simplistic parts. Highlights "Telema" (the single) and "A Little Asphalt Here and There" are bursting tone-capsules of warm laidback electro-funk, far less focused on the angular abstractions of previous TRR material. Although it's still leagues away from the electronic dance mainstream (or even the electronic listening mainstream), The Amateur View offers an intriguing glimpse at the future of home techno.

Though they quickly traded the warm electronic pop of The Amateur View for a colder vision of primitivist synth pop and atmospheric noise, To Rococo Rot proved with Music Is a Hungry Ghost that they're still at the top of their game artistically. Though they occasionally reference some familiar forms -- swirling ambient noise reminiscent of Oval as well as the angular, downtempo indie rock often found on Tortoise records -- the trio (plus guest I-Sound) clearly has a knack for creating music that's understated yet deeply felt. "First" frames a few beautiful, atmospheric chords around downtempo heart-monitor beats, while "Pantone" transforms a series of compact disc errors into surprisingly lush trance-state ambience. Two of the highlights are "From Dream to Daylight" and "Along the Route," a pair of Tortoise-styled tracks featuring another guest, violinist Alexander Balanescu, merging contemporary classical into experimental techno.

RhoDeo 1320 Goldy Rhox 109

Hello, today the 109th post of GoldyRhox, classic rock pop.  Today's focus is on a Dutch rock band which was founded by classically trained organist/flautist Thijs van Leer in 1969, and is most famous for the instrumental pieces "Hocus Pocus" and "Sylvia". In 1973 Akkerman was chosen 'Best Guitarist in The World' by the readers of the UK magazine, Melody Maker. His standing was such that he teamed up with manufacturer Framus to produce one of the first 'signature' guitar models. The band broke-up in 1978, but reformed in 2002 (without Akkerman) and has been recording and touring since. They have found also renewed fame due to the use of "Hocus Pocus"  as the theme for the Nike 2010 World Cup commercial, Write The Future. Between touring they managed another 3 albums, latest is X released last year.

Today's mystery album is the second studio album by today's artists released Oct '71, it became the first LP in the US to strike gold, it boosted the band into at least semi-fame outside of continental Europe, the album blasts off with their hit single, "Hocus Pocus." Built around a killer guitar hook by Jan Akkerman and a series of solo turns by the band, this instrumental replaced "Wipeout" as a staple of FM radio. The bizarrely hilarious vocal and accordion solos by Thijs van Leer -- one of which absurdly concludes with rousing stadium cheers -- have to be heard to be believed. After this over-the-top performance, the other tracks seem comparatively constrained: the gentle "Le Clochard" features some gorgeous classical guitar over Mellotron strings. The album concludes with "Eruption,"a 23-minute adaptation of Jacopo Peri's opera Euridice which tells the story of Orpheus and Euridice. It while mimicking the multi-suite nomenclature of Yes and King Crimson, is essentially a side-long jam session. Stop-time Emersonian organ solos alternate with languid sections of jazzy guitar redolent of Santana, while still other sections are flat-out electric blues-rock stomps. It's impressive playing, though it comes off as a bit meandering after the tightly structured solos that began the album. Here in a 2001 quality Japanese remaster.

Hello, come on let's twist again, like we did last summer. A megatwister raises a town to the ground following the same path it had 13 years before..go figure. i suppose, as did was a bigger twister and much bigger destruction but with less victims, the safety precautions have had effect. Clearly after living centuries with tornado's one would think people would build brickhouses and distribute electricity underground, but none of that. Could it be the indian spiriit still rules the land, allowing just semi permanent wooden houses ?

Meanwhile Aetix continues with females in the lead, now some of you may have wondered where the Queen of Goth went, well she's right here and she will pay us more visits in the weeks to come ....N'Joy

A year later, the nostalgia surrounding the reunion of their former heroes the Sex Pistols prompted Siouxsie and the Banshees to finally call it quits; Siouxsie and Budgie turned to the Creatures as their primary project, while Severin composed the score for the controversial film Visions of Ecstasy.

xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

After building up an intense live reputation and a rabid fan base, Siouxsie and the Banshees almost had to debut with a stunner -- which they did, "Hong Kong Garden" taking care of things on the singles front and The Scream on the full-length. Matched with a downright creepy cover and a fair enough early producing effort from Steve Lillywhite -- well before he found gated drum sounds -- it's a fine balance of the early band's talents. Siouxsie Sioux herself shows the distinct, commanding voice and lyrical meditations on fractured lives and situations that would win her well-deserved attention over the years. Compared to the unfocused general subject matter of most of the band's peers, songs like "Jigsaw Feeling," "Suburban Relapse," and especially the barbed contempt of "Mirage" are perfect miniature portraits. John McKay's metallic (but not metal) guitar parts, riffs that never quite resolve into conventional melodies, and the throbbing Steven Severin/Kenny Morris rhythm section distill the Velvet Underground's early propulsion into a crisper punch with more than a hint of glam's tribal rumble. The sheer variety on the album alone is impressive -- "Overground" and its slow-rising build, carefully emphasizing space in between McKay's notes as much as the notes themselves, the death-march Teutonic stomp of "Metal Postcard," the sudden near-sunniness of the music (down to the handclaps!) toward the end of "Carcass." The cover of "Helter Skelter" makes for an unexpected nod to the past -- if it's not as completely overdriven as the original, Siouxsie puts her own definite stamp on it and its sudden conclusion is a great moment of drama. It's the concluding "Switch" that fully demonstrates just how solid the band was then, with McKay's saxophone adding just enough of a droning wild card to the multi-part theatricality of the piece, Siouxsie in particularly fine voice on top of it all.

The songs on this early release are almost uniformly grim, with dragging tempos, bleak lyrics, long and wandering free-form structures, static and often unfocused harmony, and thick, colorless arrangements. The best selection here is "Icons," which survives an unpromising beginning to open out into a faster main section with fuller vocal sound and gutsier guitar work. The notorious number "The Lords Prayer" is a major punk landmark, featuring stream-of-consciousness lyrics that digress in every imaginable direction from the basic devotional text. Some of these selections appear to strongly anticipate the work of Joy Division's second album, Closer, especially "Placebo Effect," whose guitar sound was a clear inspiration for that of the Manchester band's song "Colony." Sound quality here is drab and squelched. Despite the group's laudable attempts to take some risks, it's hard to enjoy Join Hands it isn't an easy album.

Hello, Germany has no colonial connection to the Caribbean, however they did devellop a reggae / dubscene, though less extensive as the UK/France one. Interestingly there have been plenty of interest for a few acts that have been picking up platinum albums.

A sprawling, multi-ethnic, and multilingual lineup German reggae/dancehall band from Berlin. Founded in 1998, they have become well-known in Germany and its neighboring countries. Also today a gentleman who lives in the Neubrück area of Cologne, but sometimes names Jamaica as his home away from home. He is the son of a Lutheran pastor. He is the father of two children, named Samuel and Tamica, and is married to Tamika, a background singer of the Far East Band, which has been supporting him since his first concert tour of Germany in 2002..... Germaican ....N'joy

Seeed consists of eleven band members, their sprawling, multi-ethnic, and multilingual lineup is comprised of vocalists Pierre "Enuff" Baigorry, Demba "Ear" Nabé, and Frank "Eased" Dellé; DJ Luke; guitarist "Rudeboy" Rudy; bassist Tobsen Cordes; keyboardist "Dubmaster" Reibold; saxophonist Moritz Delgado; trombonist Jerome "Tchamp" Bugnon; drummer Based; and percussionist Alfie Trowers. Seeed is recognized for their unusual use of horns. They have worked with Cee-Lo Green, Anthony B, Tanya Stephens, General Degree as well as other Jamaican artists and producers. Almost all of their music releases feature a popular guest experience. Seeed's lyrics are in German, English and Patois. Their biggest hits in the German Sprachraum were "Dickes B", "Aufstehn", "Ding" and "Music Monks". Although their lyrics are in English and German, most of the songs in German were completely translated into English for the international releases of the Albums Next! and Music Monks.

They won three ECHO Awards. With the international versions of Music Monks and Next!, they found broader success in Germany's neighboring countries, especially France. After their initial success with "Dickes B" (ode to Berlin), in the year 2000, they released their first full length album a few months later, in 2001: New Dubby Conquerors. Followed up by another Gold album "Music Monks" in 2003, their big breakthrough in Germany came out in 2005, Next ! a platinum album (200,000 +)
In the following years, members Peter Fox, Dellé and Demba Nabé (Boundzound) each released solo albums. Peter Fox started working on a solo album named Stadtaffe ("Urban Ape") in 2007. The album was released in Germany on the 26th of September 2008. It was a huge success 6xPlatinum even outside Germany (Austria/Switserland/ Netherlands) He has since announced that he will be returning to Seeed due to unwanted stress and attention generated by his highly successful solo album Stadtaffe.

On September 2012 Seeed released their fourth studio album, Seeed, their first release in 6 years.  The album Seeed went straight to number 1 at the German album charts. It was the first time an album of Seeed achieved the Top of the album charts.

German reggae singer Gentleman (born Tilmann Otto) fell in love with Jamaican music when he first visited the island at the age of 17. He had already heard and appreciated the sounds of Dennis Brown, Peter Tosh, and Bob Marley, but when he heard more contemporary artists like Sizzla and Anthony B., it made him realize that roots-flavored reggae was still alive and well, and all he had to do was bring the good word back to Germany. In 1997 he got his chance when the German hip-hop group Freundeskreis asked him to lend his singjay skills to their track "Tabula Rasa." A series of solo singles led to his 1999 debut, Trodin On. The album was a mix of dancehall and hip-hop with Gentleman singing in English and Jamaican patois. It was an important release and laid the foundation for what would eventually be dubbed the "Germaican" movement, but it failed to make an international impression.

In 2002 he returned with his breakthrough long-player, Journey to Jah, a very roots-oriented album that was influenced by the birth of his son. There was no more swearing or gun talk, and guest appearances from righteous reggae artists like Morgan Heritage, Capleton, and Luciano along with production from Richie Stephens, Bobby Digital, and the Firehouse Crew earned Gentleman respect among the roots reggae faithful. Stopgap releases like the Runaway EP and the live CD/DVD Gentleman and the Far East Band -- both released in 2003 -- kept the fans happy as Gentleman spent his time touring the world and playing to an ever-growing audience. His 2004 single Superior was a worldwide reggae hit, landing on compilations in the U.S. and Europe and making an impact well past the Germaican scene. By the end of the year he released the album Superior, another well-received effort with special guests Anthony B., Cocoa Tea, and Barrington Levy.

The 2010 fifth studio album from internationally acclaimed German reggae artist Tilmann Otto, aka Gentleman, is his first to be released since defecting from Four Music to Universal Records. Produced by the likes of Benny Blanco (Ke$ha) and others, Diversity features collaborations with Sugar Minott and Patrice, and includes the singles "It No Pretty," "To The Top," and "Lonely Days." It reached no 1 and platinum sales

RhoDeo 1320 Falcon 03

Hello, story of the day... Karp had been interested in tumblelogs (short-form blogs) for some time and was waiting for one of the established blogging platforms to introduce their own tumblelogging platform. As no one had done so after a year of waiting, Karp and developer Marco Arment began working on their own tumblelogging platform. Tumblr was launched in February 2007and within two weeks, the service had gained 75,000 users. As of May 19, 2013, Tumblr has over 108 million blogs, 13 billion views each month... and today it's been sold for 1.1 billion $ to Yahoo. Poor mr Karp he now has to figure out how to spend his money for the rest of his life.

Hello, Europe calling, here are our 125,000,000  votes, yes it was that time of the year again the Eurovision night, no less then 39 countries got to vote and the bookie's favorite, Emmelie de Forest, won. Not my choice, too flat and readymade for me, that it won just proves that many have been brainwashed into liking this kind of music fast-food, a forgetable song.  But it's good to have 39 countries compete in a friendly way, where each has a say in the outcome an estimated 125 million viewers saw the show which is great but will be easily surpassed next week with the Championsleague final, even if it's an all German one.

He's been a man in the background, unassuming but he's been present so many times ..... N'Joy

One of the least-known releases in both the Japan and No-Man family trees -- it fell out of print shortly after release -- Flame is unsurprisingly a lush, romantic album that lets both Barbieri and Bowness show off their considerable skills. Hearing Bowness away from his usual collaborative foil, Steven Wilson, makes for a nice contrast; Barbieri sounds less interested in exploring modern pop styles as he is in creating his own evocative style, a bit of stripped-down Sinatra gone electronic in ways, nightclub cabaret for the end of the century. There's also something of both Scott Walker and quieter Peter Gabriel in their '80s incarnations in the music, low-key avant-rock with a moody undertow and unexpected arrangements, with Steve Jansen's drumming especially worthy of note. "Brightest Blue" is a particular winner in this vein, Barbieri's piano taking the lead there, while Bowness matches this perfectly, his just wonderful voice, softly sighing and gently passionate, giving one of his best romantic lyrics the delivery it deserves. "Time Flown" is another fine highlight, with Bowness taking a commanding tone -- only just, but enough to make an impact -- on the chorus, suiting the darker, more intense music there very well. With the help of both performers' regular circle of friends and fellow musicians -- Mick Karn and Michael Bearpark, besides Jansen and Wilson himself, among others -- the partnership creates some wonderful songs to luxuriate in. Indeed, no track is solely recorded by the two on their own, though a couple come close, including the keyboards/drums/vocals approach on "Trash Talk" (with an especially captivating choir vocal sample woven in) and the instrumental "Torch Dance."

If you were impressed by Sunday All Over the World (Robert Fripp's collaboration with his wife, Toyah Wilcox), then you will probably be so by this. More or less it's the same minus Fripp. Suzanne Barbieri has an interest in the occult and that mood is conjured up by both the sleeve and some of husband Richard's synth textures. The collection commences well with the Celtic-flavored "Only Forward." "The Wilderness," a beautiful piece with folky infusion that is also featured on the medium label-sampler Beginning to Melt, also fares well, but some of the album falls to lengthy dirge -- "Worlds End" does it no favors but does feature an excellent guitar stretch by Jakko. "Falling Into Years" is another superb atmospheric piece which wouldn't have seemed out of place on Stories Across Borders, his 1991 pairing with Steve Jansen. Barbieri's other Japan sidekick, Mick Karn, is in full command on the funky "Feed the Fire" and Steven Wilson takes a break from Porcupine Tree to guest on said "Wilderness."

Considering that Richard Barbieri has been a professional musician for close to 30 years, it may seem hard to believe that Things Buried is his first solo outing.Things Buried gives Barbieri the opportunity to step into the spotlight. And shine he does on this disc - a rich collection of electronic instrumentals that features Brand X bassist Percy Jones and Massive Attack and fellow H band drummer Andy Gangadeen. Barbieri's analog keyboards shimmer on songs like “Nevada” and the cinematic “Fear and Trembling,” a number that sounds like it’s longing to be used in a science fiction film.

“Light on Glass,” with Jones’ funky bass and Gangadeen’s pounding rhythm, sounds very reminiscent of Barbieri’s work with JBK. Barbieri drives the track along with some cool synth noises and effects. The closing “Path Not Taken” takes the same route – some funk bass matched by Barbieri’s programmed percussion. The song’s simple yet highly effective piano line will bore into the listener’s brain.

But the true standout song on Things Buried is the majestic “Red Square.” Barbieri plays what sounds like a harpsichord while Jones adds some subtle fretless bass. Eerie sound effects lie in the background. Nearly three minutes in, a lovely piano part takes over. This song so perfectly encapsulates why Barbieri is such a stellar musician – nothing really reaches out and grabs you, but if anything was missing, you’d notice it. Barbieri layers his instrumentation so deftly that it’s easy to under appreciate what he does.
