RhoDeo 1242 Goldy Rhox 79

Hello, today the 79th post of Goldy Rhox, classic pop rock. In the darklight today are a UK pop rock and jazz-funk band founded in 1979 by Phil Gould and Mark King who were both based in London and became involved in Robin Scott's pop project M ('Pop Muzik'). While working with M, they became acquainted with Waliou "Wally" Badarou, a freelance Afro-French keyboard and synthesizer player. In late 1979, Phil Gould introduced Mark King and Mike Lindup to each other, and all of them began playing together in loose rehearsal sessions, developing their own jazz-funk fusion style. King, a notably flexible musician and quick learner, had observed visiting American funk players demonstrating the thumb-slap bass guitar technique and developed his own take on the style in a matter of weeks. The band supposedly came to their name as some had been reading The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy and feeling a bit full of themselves they found "the Answer to The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything" appropriate enough as a namesake to forgo any confusion with age they added a level.. After having a number of hits the band disbanded in 1994 only to reappear in 2001 but only released one album since. They've sold 30 million + albums.

Most of the albums i 'll post made many millions for the music industry and a lot of what i intend to post still gets repackaged and remastered decades later, squeezing the last drop of profit out of bands that for the most part have ceased to exist long ago, although sometimes they get lured out of the mothballs to do a big bucks gig or tour. Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accommodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.

Todays mystery album was the debut album by the band, released in  July 1981. It is best known for the track "Love Games", which became a successful jazz–funk and dancefloor hit for the band. It has figured in both the band's and bassist Mark King's solo live appearances to this day. Also gaining substantial dance airplay on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean was the third single "Starchild", with Lindup on vocals. The second single, "Turn it On", released in the United Kingdom, Spain, France and Canada, peaked at #47 in the UK single charts. Today is not a remaster but a relatively rare first cd pressing with extended versions replacing the original album lengths adding some 4 minutes duh.
