God Is an Astronaut are an instrumental three piece hailing from the Glen of the Downs, Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Brothers Niels and Torsten Kinsella hooked up with drummer Lloyd Hanney in 2002 and released their debut album The End of the Beginning (2002) on their own Revive Records label. Their two music videos for The End of the Beginning and From Dust to the Beyond, received MTV airplay. "The first album was made with a keyboard sequencer and an Akai sampler. There wasn't enough memory to put down live performances from beginning to end, so there were a lot short sound-bites sequenced to make the songs" says Niels, admitting that the new album was maybe a bit easier, "All Is Violent was actually recorded on a computer using Pro-tools. This gave us a lot more options because the system had lots of processing power which allowed us to record guitars, drums etc. as full live performances."
All Is Violent, All Is Bright (2005) This epic return is smothered in big guitar anthems, mind controlling electronica and a healthy dose of melancholy featuring their build ups from serene ambience to searing intensity. In all its a closer representation of their live sound. A year later they released a five track EP called A Moment of Stillness. Still in a productive mood 2007 saw the release of "Far From Refuge , where they have been taking that sound to a new emotive level. The compositions are intricate and well thought out with moments that explode into quietness. Far From Refuge is anything but a cliche post-rock album. Rather, it is a masterpiece that finds the band's sound maturing, the compositions are intricate yet careful and the album as a whole is fluid and the tracks perfectly selected and ordered. In early 2008, the band embarked on their first tour of the United States. On the day they were set to return home, $20,000 worth of uninsured equipment was stolen from their van in New Jersey. Disaster and this on a tour that had reportedly already cost the band $20,000 to organize.
Despite that big setback they went into the studio and November 7, 2008 , the self assuredly self-titled album God Is an Astronaut was released. On February 12, 2010, a download single was released on their website" In The Distance Fading" , a track from their fifth and latest album, Age of the Fifth Sun, released on May 17, 2010.
2011 saw two changes to God is an Astronaut's lineup. Drummer Lloyd Hanney left the band due to personal commitments and was replaced by Michael Fenton. Keyboardist Jamie Dean joined the band for live shows, allowing the band to perform more keyboard-focused tracks on tour.

Hello, it would be hard to pass on the death of Amy Winehouse earlier this week. She led a tumultuous life and yet 15 years ago she was an aspiring timid teen with ambition to make it as a singer. The path was cleared but 3 years later her hormones led her to a more independent stance, which has to be said went smooth, three years later record labels were fighting over her. Amy's first love affair inspired her to write the Mercury nominated debut album, Frank, it went platinum in the UK, yet storms clouds were already gathering.
In various interviews, she admitted to having problems with self-harm, depression and eating disorders In 2005, she went through a period of drinking, heavy drug use, violent mood swings and weight loss. Nobody in her surroundings got the true picture, the one that did, her later husband Frank, only, he joined in and stimulated her on a path of self destruction. Despite all that she managed to write Back To Black, an album that got a bizarre number of accolades (even for a jewish artist)Five Grammys, including three of the "Big Four": Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. On 14 February 2007, she won a BRIT Award for Best British Female Artist; she had also been nominated for Best British Album. Back to Black was the world's seventh biggest selling album for 2008. It certainly didn't help her leaving her self destructive path.
The years that followed gave the British tabloids plenty of field days as she stumbled on, often drunk or on other substance abuse. After her marriage was dissolved, hubby Frank had been imprisoned for 1/4 of the 2 years it officially lasted. She seemed on the mend after several clinical visits mainly because she contracted emphysema which would have cut short her singing career, still Amy continued smoking. She did however write and record too, the result will probably see the light of day later this year, as the album has been postponed from earlier this year.. In the years since back to black her concerts often failed to impress as she seemed more interested in Frank-in the audience- as the public. Her latest tour was canceled as the first gig ended in disaster, she was almost too drunk to stand on her feet.
Now she's dead at a moment her surroundings felt she was doing better, how sad. Clearly those around her never had a clue what her underlying problem was. I never much followed Amy and it may sound arrogant here, but doing some research for this post, i almost immediately recognised her problem, her amygdala ! Her GP (doctor) must have been incompetent otherwise he would have referred her to a neurologist. Lot's of research has and is being done on the amygdala, it's the nervecenter of our emotions. It's been found artistic people have larger amygdala's these are known to have lesions which can cause lot's of problems a listing of which corresponds with Amy's troubles. In her case there seems to be an extreme effect as in when she was emotionally aroused-good or bad- she lost control of herself. As the amygdala is connected to memory consolidation as well, she might get caught in an emotional feedback loop. All this, she found out, could only be dimmed by extensive amounts of alcohol, normal people loose control when drunk, she felt the opposite. Obviously a 5ft3" body won't accept too much alcohol before loosing control anyway, but in her case in a better way. I think her GP maybe glad she was cremated because i think her amygdala would have proven his incompetence as a doctor. What is remarkble about her death that the cause hasn't been announced yet, they obviously tested the usual suspects but to no avail, so she died of something else, suicide maybe or some other bodily malfunction, whatever it was, they decided to release the body for cremation.
What is it that attracts so much interest in people on a path of self destruction, is it because they represent the human race on it's own path of self destruction ? In many ways Amy was a tortured soul, having little control over herself. Being lauded for her achievements would have been confusing and in a way a trap because so much of her success was directly connected to her agony. Millions of albums sold but sharing her pain didn't help her, i don't know if there is a drug that could have kept her amygdala in check, considering all the research that is being done, i would think so. However would the world have accepted a healthier Amy, i think yes as after all it was foremost her voice that connected to the world.

Frank was released by Island Records in October 2003 in the United Kingdom, and in the United States on 20 November 2007. The album spawned the singles "Stronger Than Me", "Take the Box", "In My Bed"/"You Sent Me Flying" and "Fuck Me Pumps"/"Help Yourself". The album was reissued in a deluxe edition in the UK on 12 May 2008. This edition includes an eighteen-track bonus disc including rare tracks, remixes, B-sides and live performances.
Upon its release, Frank received generally positive reviews from most music critics and earned Winehouse several accolades, including an Ivor Novello Award. Since its original release in the United Kingdom, it was certified triple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry, denoting shipments in excess of 900,000 copies in the UK on 18 December 2008 The title Frank doesn't refer to a certain man though the album is about her first big love but frank should be read as outspoken. As such it the title alludes to the nature and tone of Winehouse's lyrics on the album. A staggeringly assured, sit-up-and-listen debut, both commercial and eclectic, accessible and uncompromising accompanied by her eclectic mix of musical genres including R&B, soul and jazz

RhoDeo 1130 Goldy Rhox 33
Hello, today the 33rd post of Goldy Rhox, classic pop rock. 33 is a special number in Numerology it is not only a numerical representation of “the Star of David,” but also the numerical equivalent of AMEN: 1+13+5+14=33. Or the highest degree in Masonary. The year Jesus was crucified after his 33 miracles. According to Al-Ghazali (1000AD Iranian mystic) the dwellers of Heaven will exist eternally in a state of being age 33. Obviously vinyl albums rotate at 33⅓ revolutions per minute. As did todays remastered blockbuster. The artist after an eventful, commercially, artistically successful life died before his time on a cocktail of drugs. He sure was different, not like the other boys. Living his life in the spotlights from a very young age he become the worlds biggest musical star, only to fall from so much grace later in life. To be honest todays mystery album really shouldn't be one for the average visitor.....
***** ***** ***** ***** *****
Most of the albums i 'll post made many millions for the music industry and a lot of what i intend to post still gets repackaged and remastered decades later, squeezing the last drop of profit out of bands that for the most part have ceased to exist long ago, although sometimes they get lured out of the mothballs to do a big bucks gig or tour. Now i'm not as naive to post this kinda music for all to see and have deleted, these will be a black box posts, i'm sorry for those on limited bandwidth but for most of you a gamble will get you a quality rip don't like it, deleting is just 2 clicks...That said i will try to accomodate somewhat and produce some cryptic info on the artist and or album.
Todays mystery album was released on November 30, 1982 it remained at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart for thirty-seven weeks, second only to the soundtrack for West Side Story. The album spent a record 80 consecutive weeks, more than a year and a half, in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. It charted seven Top 10 singles and is the only album to have sold more copies in the United States than any other in two separate years, topping the sales charts in 1983 and 1984, and selling over 29 million copies to date. The album topped the charts in many countries, sold 3.7 million copies in the UK, 2.5 million in Japan and went 15x Platinum in Australia. Still popular today, it sells an estimated 130,000 copies in the US per year. Worldwide, its sales total has been estimated at 110 million copies by his management; independent sources give lower estimates, but there is consensus agreement that Goldy Rhox 33 is the top-selling album in history. Even it's 25 year rerelease collected gold in its own right.

RhoDeo 1130 Aetix
Hello, todays Aetix is all American, in these dark days when patriotism seems the prime concern for socio/psycho paths, reason has no place in the mind of the righteous. I'm not just talking about Norwegian creep but those republican imbeciles in the US congress as well. Tax the rich you morons, if you don't your rich friends will become a lot less rich, maybe not compared to fellow Americans but most certainly compared to the rest of the world. It amazes me that they haven't been reeled in, there must be a plan behind ruining the US.
Tom Petty & the Heartbrakers represent the good guys, their rock & roll managed not just to hold on to a fanbase for more then 3 decades but they stayed true to themselves with a core lineup that didn't change. Tom Petty ( rhythm guitar, lead vocals, harmonica) Mike Campbell ( lead guitar) Benmont Tench ( piano, organ, synthesizer, backing vocals). Today their first albums in flac if you want, and their third in 5.1 for those with right system the others need to make do with the standard Ogg 9.
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
Tom Petty, known in his early years as "Tommy", was born in Gainesville, Florida and grew up in northeast Gainesville. As a teen-aged, amateur musician he often practiced at home with friends and sometimes even in the family owned fall-out shelter located in his back yard. Petty graduated from Gainesville High School in 1968. Petty did not have any musical aspirations until Elvis Presley came to Ocala, Florida, 25 miles south of Petty's hometown, to work on a film, "Follow That Dream". Petty went down to watch him and was inspired. After working with his early bands The Sundowners, The Epics, and Mudcrutch with ace drummer Randall Marsh, (which also included future Heartbreakers members Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench) he began his recording career with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers when the band broke onto the national music scene with their 1976 self-titled debut album. Still, it took America a full year to catch up to the album. "Breakdown" was re-released to radio and became a Top 40 hit in 1977 after word filtered back the band was creating a firestorm in England.
Their 1978 second album You're Gonna Get It! proved the debut album's intensity was no fluke. Marking the band's first gold album, it features the singles "Listen To Her Heart" and "I Need To Know". Shortly after its release the band was dragged into a legal dispute when ABC Records was sold to MCA Records. Petty refused to simply be transferred to another record label without his consent. He held fast to his principles for nine long months, which eventually led to him filing for bankruptcy.
After the dispute was settled, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers released their third album Damn the Torpedoes (1979) that rapidly became triple-platinum. It includes "Refugee", their U.S. breakthrough single.
Though he was at a peak of popularity, Petty ran into record company trouble again when he and the Heartbreakers prepared to release Hard Promises (1981), the follow-up to Damn the Torpedoes. MCA wanted to release the record at the list price of $9.98, which was a high price at the time. Petty refused to comply to their wishes, threatening to change the album title to "The 8.98 Album" & actually withhold the album from the label. He organized a fan protest that forced the company to release the record at 8.98. Hard Promises became a Top Ten hit, going platinum and spawning the hit single "The Waiting."
On their fifth album Long After Dark (1982) bass player Ron Blair was replaced by Howie Epstein, giving The Heartbreakers their line up until 1994. However, Petty had problems coping with the stress and success and decided to slow things down.
On their comeback album Southern Accents (1985) Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers picked up where they had left off. The recording was not without problems — Petty became frustrated during the mixing process and broke his left hand after punching through a wall. The album includes the hit single "Don't Come Around Here No More" which was produced by Dave Stewart.
A successful concert tour led to the live album Pack Up The Plantation-Live! (1985). The band's live capabilities were put to the test when Bob Dylan invited Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers to join him on his True Confessions tour through the U.S., Australia, Japan (1986) and Europe (1987). Also in 1987, the group released Let Me Up (I've Had Enough), a studio album made to sound like a live recording using a technique they borrowed from Bob Dylan. It includes "Jammin' Me", which Petty wrote with Dylan.
In 1991, the band released Into the Great Wide Open, produced by Jeff Lynne who had worked with Petty in Traveling Wilburys. Songs included the title track itself and "Learning to Fly". By this time, multi-instrumentalist Scott Thurston had joined the band. In 1993, Petty released Greatest Hits which included hit single "Mary Jane's Last Dance". In 1994 Lynch was fired from the band and replaced by Steve Ferrone who had worked with Tom, Benmont, Mike and Howie on Petty's 'solo' album, Wildflowers.
In 1996, Petty "reunited" with the Heartbreakers and released a soundtrack to the movie She's the One.Three songs charted from this album. The album also included a cover of a song by Beck, "Asshole". In 1999, Petty and the Heartbreakers released the album Echo with producer Rick Rubin at the helm. The album reached number 10 in the U.S. album charts and featured, amongst other singles, "Room at the Top". In 2002, Petty and the Heartbreakers released The Last DJ. Many of the tracks' lyrics contain stinging attacks on the music industry and major record companies. The album reached number 9 in the U.S. charts. Ron Blair played on three of the tracks. He also replaced the man who had previously been his replacement, Howie Epstein on the band's 2002 tour as a result of Epstein's deepening personal problems and drug abuse. Epstein died in 2003 at the age of 48.
After 34 years Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers proved that they still got it in them as they released the well recieved Mojo their twelfth studio album, on June 15, 2010. Mojo debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling 125,000 copies in its first week of release. The album is also the band's first album since 1981's Hard Promises to feature returning original bassist Ron Blair in its entirety. In the end, it took some time to win over the American public but they managed to keep themselves in the limelight for decades, despite some serious clashes with the record industry, no mean feat indeed.

At the time Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' debut was released in 1976, they were fresh enough to almost be considered punk. They weren't as reckless or visionary as the Ramones, but they shared a similar love for pure '60s rock and, for the Heartbreakers, that meant embracing the Byrds as much as the Stones. And that's pretty much what this album is -- tuneful jangle balanced by a tough garage swagger.
Initially following its release, the album received little attention in the United States. Following a British tour, it climbed to #24 on the UK album chart and the single "Anything That's Rock 'n' Roll" became a hit in the UK. After nearly a year and many positive reviews, the album reached the U.S. charts, where it climbed to #55 in 1978 and eventually went Gold. The single "Breakdown" cracked the Top 40 in the U.S. and "American Girl" became an FM radio staple which can still be heard today.
Petty & the Heartbreakers feel underground on this album, at least to the extent that power pop was underground in 1976.

You're Gonna Get It! is the second album by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, released in 1978. Originally, the album was to be titled Terminal Romance. Like its self-titled predecessor, this album includes tight melodic songs awash in ringing guitars and organ. It reached #23 on Billboard's Top LP's & Tapes chart in 1978. It also earned Petty and the Heartbreakers their first gold record.
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers didn't really knock out their second album -- it was released two years after their debut -- but it sure sounds as if they did. There are some wonderful moments on this record, but it often feels like leftovers from a strong debut, or an album written on the road, especially since the music is simply an extension of the first album. That said, when You're Gonna Get It! works, it devastates. That's not saying that "When the Time Comes" is a masterpiece, even if it's a fine opener, but it does mean that "I Need to Know" and the scathing "Listen to Her Heart" are testaments to how good this band could be when it was focused. If the rest of the album doesn't achieve this level of perfection, that's a signal that they were still finding their footing, but overall it's still a solid record, filled with good performances that are never quite as good as the songs. It's pretty good as it spins, but once it finishes, you remember those two songs at the heart of the record, maybe the opener and closer, which are stronger than the rest of the competent, enjoyable, yet unremarkable roots-rockers that surround them. Not necessarily a transitional effort -- after all, it pretty much mirrors its predecessor -- but a holding pattern that may not suggest the peaks of what's to come, but still delivers a good soundalike of the debut.

This was a group that harkened back to the sounds of the British Invasion and embodied the spirit of the great American garage band. Petty wrote the songs that remind you of Bob Dylan and Neil Young, and the Heartbreakers provided the backing. The group recorded a couple of early albums with Shelter records and started off as bigger hits in England than in the U.S. and then Shelter got gobbled up by MCA, which did not sit well with Petty. There were the first of many legal tangles between the two and "Damn the Torpedoes" was the result of a settlement. Released on an MCA subsidiary, Backstreet, the title was clearly a shot across the bow of MCA and their fight would be continued. Despite the legal wrangler and creative disputes, this 1979 album would be the definitive release for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, combining some old songs from his early days in L.A. playing with Mudcrutch with some new songs. It was certainly the group's breakthrough effort, both a critical and commercial success. The album made it to #2 on the Billboard charts on the basis of a trio of strong songs.

Hello, last time we landed on an island with a huge place in the global music catalogue, Jamaica. A production hothouse and they say the Weed makes you slow and lazy-go figure. Without the ganja driven reggae music Jamaica would have remained a Caribbean backwater and dare i say would never have given us Bolt, the fastest man in the world. The coming months there's plenty of reggae & dub from Jamaica, today we kick off with a remastered classic, Junior Murvins Police and Thieves together with a classic by famous dub wizard Scientist who at the time wasn't aware of the real vampires he was surrounded with.
***** ***** ***** ***** *****
Junior Murvin was born Murvin Junior Smith, likely in 1949 in Port Antonio, Jamaica. As a child, he sang along with records by Nat King Cole, and (later on) soul singers like Sam Cooke, and especially Curtis Mayfield, after whom his own falsetto was modeled. He began performing publicly as a youth after his family moved to Montego Bay. With some experience under his belt, he went to live with his aunt in the Kingston ghetto of Trenchtown, where he quickly made connections on the thriving reggae scene and worked on his singing technique. He performed with several bands around Kingston's clubs and tourist hotels; their repertoires often featured covers of American sweet soul tunes, and Murvin became known for his Mayfield interpretations, several of which he recorded for Harriott.
In 1976, he was ready to take another shot, and successfully auditioned for Perry -- now running his own Black Ark studio -- with a self-penned rude-boy anthem called "Police and Thieves." Recorded and released just weeks later, "Police and Thieves" became the chart-topping reggae anthem of the summer in Jamaica and England, both of which were in the throes of intense racial unrest. Murvin and Perry co-wrote some more material and completed a full album, also titled Police & Thieves, which was released by Island in 1977. Generally regarded as one of Perry's finest productions, Police & Thieves featured further singles in "Tedious," "Roots Train," and "False Teachin'.
Unfortunately, the magical combination of Murvin and Perry would never finish another album together. Although they recorded more material with Murvin's new backing band, the Apostles, and released a 12" single in 1980 ("Crossover"), Perry's increasing mental difficulties would culminate in a nervous breakdown and the destruction of his studio. Although Murvin continued to record off and on through the '80s without Perry, he never quite recaptured the lightning that was his greatest moment. He hooked up with producer Mikey Dread for the 1982 album Bad Man Posse, and switched to red-hot dancehall mastermind Henry "Junjo" Lawes for 1984's Muggers in the Street
In 1986, he recorded Apartheid with another prominent dancehall figure, Prince Jammy, and the following year cut a couple of singles for King Tubby. 1989 saw the release of his last album to date, Signs and Wonders. In the years since, Murvin has remained active on a low-profile basis, recording singles for various local sound systems in Jamaica
Junior Murvin backed by The Upsetters released Police and Thieves in 1977, it was produced as well as partially written by Lee Scratch Perry at his legendary Black Ark studio. The result was a classic masterpiece here in it's 2003 remastered edition..

Scientist, born Hopeton Brown in Kingston, Jamaica, 1960 was a protégé of King Tubby, one of the originators of dub music. Brown was introduced to electronics by his father, who worked as a television and radio repair technician. He began building his own amplifiers and would buy transformers from Tubby's Dromilly Road studio, and while there would keep asking Tubby to give him a chance at mixing. He was taken on at Tubby's as an assistant, and began working as a mixer in the mid-1970s. He left King Tubby's studio at the end of the 1970s and became the principal engineer for Channel One Studio when hired by the Hoo Kim brothers, giving him the chance to work on a 16-track mixing desk rather than the four tracks at Tubby's.
He came to prominence in the early 1980s and produced many albums, his mixes featuring on many releases in the first part of the decade. In particular, he was the favourite engineer of Henry "Junjo" Lawes, for whom he mixed several albums featuring the Roots Radics. In 1982 he left Channel One to work at Tuff Gong studio as second engineer. He then emigrated to the Washington, D.C. area in 1985, again to work in studios as a sound engineer.
He made a series of albums in the early 1980s, released on Greensleeves Records with titles themed around Scientist's fictional achievements in fighting Space Invaders, Pac-Men, and Vampires, and winning the World Cup. Scientist has alleged in court that Greensleeves sold these albums without his consent, according to his interview with United Reggae online magazine.
Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires was produced and arranged by Henry "Junjo" Lawes, The Riddim Tracks were recorded at Channel One and played by The Roots Radics Band, All the tracks were mixed by Scientist at King Tubby's Studio at midnight on June 13, 1981. Scientist sourced his material for this album from artists Michael Prophet, Wailing Souls, Johnny Osbourne and Wayne Jarrett. Several tracks from the album were featured in the soundtrack to the popular video game Grand Theft Auto III. The tracks on the fictitious radio station 'K-Jah' are composed entirely of songs from this album. When he didn't recieve any royalties an US judge told him a recording mixer was not considered the author of a musical work, but producer Henry "Junjo" Lawes was the copyright holder of the album. RhoDeo1130 Illuminatus 5th Trip
Hello, the thing i was afraid for is happening a media circus around that psychopaths manifesto, who the fuck cares what this
deranged mind has assembled, the sanctimonious coward should be locked up inside his body, cheap to maintain. That said i find it odd Norwegians can apply for a license to own a machine gun as this freak had. I suspect this naive policy will be reverted.
Today we start the fifth trip (3 parts), which concludes the first band of the Illuminatus! Trilogy, The Eye In The Pyramid.
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
The three parts of the trilogy are subdivided into five "books" named after the five seasons of the Discordian calendar (Chaos, Discord, Confusion, Bureaucracy, The Aftermath). This book is not designed to be easy to digest. You are not meant to internalize its message thoughtlessly. It's funny, contradictory, and self-aware, and it's hard for people who take themselves seriously to get caught up in a book that, for the most part, doesn't. I could say this book deserves to be more than a cult classic, its cultural influence will continue to seep in with or without grander acclaim.
The plot meanders between the thoughts, hallucinations and inner voices (both real and imagined) of its many characters, as well as through time (past, present and future)— sometimes in mid-sentence. Much of the back story is explained via dialogue between characters, who recount unreliable, often mutually contradictory, versions of their supposed histories. There are even parts in the book in which the narrative reviews and jokingly deconstructs the work itself.
The Illuminatus ! Trilogy was performed by the incomparable Ken Campbell and Chris Fairbank, and broadcast live in London on ResonanceFM in June 2006. In 1976, Ken Campbell adapted Illuminatus! for the stage - a 10 hour epic which went on to open the Royal National Theatre in London under the patronage of Her Majesty Elizabeth II. Chris Fairbank played Simon Moon, among other characters. 30 years and 23 Fernando Poos since Ken and Chris first breathed life into Shea and Wilson's masterpiece and Illuminatus! seems even more startlingly relevant and chock full of laughter than ever before. Enjoy the Trips!

The trilogy's rambling story begins with an investigation by two New York City detectives (Saul Goodman and Barney Muldoon) into the bombing of Confrontation, a leftist magazine, and the disappearance of its editor, Joe Malik. Discovering the magazine's investigation into the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr., the two follow a trail of memos that suggest the involvement of powerful secret societies. They slowly become drawn into a web of conspiracy theories. Meanwhile, the magazine's reporter, George Dorn — having been turned loose without support deep in right-wing Mad Dog, Texas — is arrested for drug possession. He is jailed and physically threatened, at one point hallucinating about his own execution. The prison is bombed and he is rescued by the Discordians, led by the enigmatic Hagbard Celine, captain of a golden submarine. Hagbard represents the Discordians in their eternal battle against the Illuminati, the conspiratorial organization that secretly controls the world. He finances his operations by smuggling illicit substances.

deranged mind has assembled, the sanctimonious coward should be locked up inside his body, cheap to maintain. That said i find it odd Norwegians can apply for a license to own a machine gun as this freak had. I suspect this naive policy will be reverted.
Today we start the fifth trip (3 parts), which concludes the first band of the Illuminatus! Trilogy, The Eye In The Pyramid.

Sundaze 1130 Norway
Hello, the terrorist attack in Norway turned out far worse than was briefed last night. unfuckingbelieve that someone is able to kill 90 unarmed youths in cold blood, surrenders and announces he will make a declaration in court. I hope the Norwegian government is wise enough to forbid any form of analog or digital registration, the clerks shorthand is more than enough. I really don't want to see this psychopath on Youtube. As i mentioned yesterday this creep should be imprisoned in his own body and drip fed for the remainder of his life.
As my thoughts were on Norway today it's stands to reason that todays Sundaze is from Norway. Serious and contemplative music in memory of the victims of senseless violence, alas many millions have gone before. What a strange species are we, our ability to introspect is severely hampered by fanaticism and lust for power. It's time to disenfranchise the scum that has risen to the top, the sociopaths, the psychopaths . These 15 % will have to be only allowed simple menial jobs without any responsibility and not permitted to breed. Only then will peace and respect in the world be possible.

Molvær was born and grew up on the island of Sula, Norway, and left at the age of nineteen to study music at the conservatory in Trondheim. He joined the band Masqualero, they recorded several albums for ECM Records, and Molvær recorded with other ECM artists before his debut solo album, Khmer, in 1998, a fusion of jazz, rock, electronic soundscapes and hip-hop beats, Molvær's muted trumpet sound, sometimes electronically processed, had an obvious debt to Miles Davis's work of the 1970s and 1980s. Khmer was followed, by Solid Ether (2000). The Cherry/Davis-inflected trumpet sound was as exquisitely brooding as before but often the arrangements dissolved into a hectic clatter of drum'n'bass. True to this belief NPM had the tracks of "Solid Ether" remixed by like-minded artists such as Funkstoerung, Bill Laswell, Joakim Lone and Jason Swinscoe/Cinematic Orchestra, and the resultant "Recoloured - The Remix Album" was released in April 2001.
NPM's album NP3 released by Universal Music Group in 2002, continues the concepts that were developed through "Khmer" and "Solid Ether" by putting significant differing elements together to combine contrasting structures. The question is all about timing - when to stop the 'moment' and then freeze it and squeeze it." Time changes, sound changes, music changes "Being from a generation that didn't grow up with the traditional standards, this is a taste of my tradition…." To enhance the 'musical travel' experience that this is meant to be, NPM has added small ambient islands that bind the whole production together. “NP3” was followed by the DVD “Molvær live”. ”NP3” was remixed and released as “Remakes” in 2005.
NPM is well known for his unique live performances, and born out of the successful world tour in 2002, “Streamer” was produced by the recordings of the amazing live performances at London's legendary Marquee and Tampere Jazz Festival in Finland. “Streamer“ was released in 2004 and has been called a celebration of NPM’s live performances . In the same period as NPM starts working on his latest studio album “ER” he produces music to Henrik Ibsen’s “Ghosts”, and also the musicscore to the French downbeat comedy “Edy” . Nils Petter Molvær has taken a new direction with “ER” even if the soundscapes will be recognised from his previous releases. His latest album Hamada was released in 2009.

Geir Jensen, aka Biosphere, was born in 1962 in Tromsø, a city within the Arctic Circle in the northernmost portion of Norway, no real surprise then this "arctic sound" label stuck. In 1983, he composed his first piece of music. In 1985, Jenssen was part of the newly-created Norwegian moody synth trio Bel Canto. They released their first two albums together. In 1989, he left the band in order to pursue a different music style altogether.
Following the release of The North Pole By Submarine (90), Jenssen chose a new musical direction and began releasing his music as Biosphere. Getting his first Biosphere album, Microgravity a wider release wasnt easy, however when it did, it got rave reviews. The follow up Patashnik, saw Jenssen continue to explore his ambient-house beatless style. In 2000 he released Cirque, which unsurprisingly wasnt as impressive as its predecessor.
Shenzhou, Jenssen's fifth full length album , is a more abstract work, the material draws from elongated, pitch-shifted loops taken from classical composer Claude Debussy. No beat in sight for more than 50 minutes. Classical melodies, but not in a classical way. Icy and desolate, yet warm and cozy. Melody and drone go hand in hand.
Released in 2004, Autour de la Lune stands as the most minimal and austere Biosphere album to date, his next album, Dropsonde, is a half beatless, half rhythmic album comprised of jazz rhythms. Geir is still chasing the beatless rhythm when he's not mountaineering.
In 2009 Geir released Wireless: Live at the Arnolfini, his first live album, containing new tracks such as "Pneuma I & II".
Jenssen has scored a number of films, including Eternal Stars (1993) and Insomnia (1997). In 2010, two soundtracks were announced on Biosphere's website, for German film "Im Schatten" and Norwegian "NOKAS". Earlier this year saw the release of the excellent N-Plants.
Biosphere on Autour De La Lune , really experiments with the extremes. The bass is so deep that most importantly, Autour De La Lune simply must be heard on headphones to really "hear" it, or else one is bound not to perceive its true depth. All the subtle sounds carefully placed have the effect of expanding the brain and opening it up to a unique sonic experience.

The name Röyksopp, derived from Norwegian "røyksopp", translates into English as "puffball". This type of mushroom is notable for the misty cloud created when it releases its spores . There is also an obvious hallucinogenic double meaning to the name. Despite the fact that Brundtland and Berge were schoolmates in their hometown of Tromsø and experimented with electronic instruments in the early 90's. Röyksopp only appeared years later when they met again in Bergen where they met a lively music scene and worked with bands such as Frost and Kings of Convenience. There first singles drew enough interest from Wall of Sound to sign them and release Melody AM. Good thing they did, it sold a million copies half of it in the UK alone.
No wonder then that the followup "the Understanding" took 4 years to see the light of day, they tried hard not to repeat themselves, maybe a bit too hard, still it got decent reviews and they werent shot down as one album hit wonders.Last year they released a 40 min live ep "Night Out" Meanwhile its 2007 and the boys just produced a compilation album no 25 in the Back to Mine series, to be released in april.
On March 23, 2009, Röyksopp's third studio album, Junior, was released, featuring the single "Happy Up Here". Junior was a success around the world. It was followed by the completely instrumental Senior, where the band create an atmosphere conductive to introspection. Senior was successful in the band's native Norway, peaking at number one, the band's fourth consecutive album to do so.
Royksopp released a film to promote Senior in 2010.Royksopp's Adventures in Barbieland was released in August 2010 and showed Royksopp living as two elderly musicians in a house full of Barbie dolls.

RhoDeo 1129 Beats
Hello, on this sad day when terrorism presented us with another low in their cowardly pursuit of what? I'm not in favor of the death penalty--far to light, but removal of eyes, tongue, pierced eardrums and a cut thru the spinal cord will do, conscious vegetation for 50 years now thats punishment that would make others think more than twice.
Time for some beats now, in the spotlight today a man that became a beacon for the Chicago House scene via a rather serious music route and initially being a drummer certainly gave him an edge when it came to fusing the beats with synthesizers. He never sold as many records as some of the other Chicago house producers, but Larry Heard is arguably the best to come out of the scene, providing the crucial marriage between the warmth and communal feeling of disco with the energy and futurism of house music. Classic Fingers presents an excellent (and rare) insight into his early work, Alien on the other hand shows a more mature/relaxed side of the man as he managed to create what feels like aural journeys through stardust.
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
Unlike many of his Chicago house contemporaries, Heard's discography is quite large, with his work released under many pseudonyms, Gherkin Jerks, The Housefactors, Loosefingers, Mr. Fingers, Trio Zero or his bands Fingers Inc., The It, The Ram Project and Blakk Society, plus more than a dozen albums he released since the '90s recorded as by Larry Heard.
Born on Chicago's south side in 1960, Heard began buying records from an early age, and was influenced by his parents' jazz and gospel collection. Though he practiced on guitar and bass as a youth, he joined a friend's band playing drums after bluffing his way through an audition at the age of 17. Heard began practicing with fervor and became quite good, he also worked for the U.S. government as a benefit authorizer, which enabled him to buy his first studio equipment as well to pay the bills.
While playing with a variety of local bands during the late '70s and early '80s like Infinity (a jazz-fusion cover group that included Adonis) , Heard was introduced to many different types of synthesizers, and he gradually became more interested in playing keyboards than drums. Heard finally opted out of the band setup in 1984, bought a synthesizer/drum machine combo and began producing music. After a few days with the gear, he had recorded three tracks later recognized as serious pinnacles of Chicago house, among them "Mystery of Love," "Washing Machine," and "Can You Feel It."
Heards lack of connections in the club scene made it difficult to get the tracks listened to, though he finally debuted on wax with a 1985 single for DJ International named "Donnie." Instead of being credited to Larry Heard however, the single appeared as "the It", and was co-written by street poet Harry Dennis. Later, on one of his infrequent trips into the club/party scene, Heard met up with Robert Owens. Owens was then working as a DJ, though he was (more importantly) an incredibly talented gospel-styled vocalist. Heard and Owens decided to form Fingers Inc., with the addition of Ron Wilson.
The nascent Chicago house scene was just about to explode with recording activity, and Heard released nearly a dozen singles during 1986-1987, for both Trax and DJ International. Fingers Inc. contributed Chicago classics like "Mystery of Love," "You're Mine," "Distant Planet," and "Bring Down the Walls," while Mr. Fingers dropped quite possibly the most sublime house single ever released, "Can You Feel It."
By the end of the '80s, Heard released one of the first house full-lengths with the 1988 Fingers Inc. LP Another Side for Jack Trax Records. The following year, Jack Trax released Heard's original 1984 instrumental demos as the Mr. Fingers album Amnesia, even though he had never given consent to the album's issue. Despite its barely legal status, the LP showcased the first flowering of Heard's genius with several impeccable tracks. His large production role on the 1989 hit debut album by Lil' Louis ("Tuch Me, French Kiss") was noticed by the major labels and by the beginning of the '90s, Heard was being offered contracts by several labels.
After finally signing to MCA as a solo act in 1991, Heard issued his first major-label album one year later. Mr. Fingers' Introduction charted an intriguing balance between floor-filling garage house and several tracks of polished jazz-fusion; Heard's undying influence among DJs and producers alike made the album quite an international success. Though it graced the American dance charts as well, MCA attempted to interfere with the production of its follow-up, Back to Love, and later refused to release the album at all. It finally appeared in 1995 on Black Market Records, the label formed by Heard's friend and former manager Ren Galston.
By the time Back to Love was released, however, Heard had already recorded and released another album, his first as simply Larry Heard. The album Sceneries Not Songs, Vol. 1 (and its follow-up) both expanded on Heard's commitment to inner space rather than the dancefloor. He returned to a style more tied to traditional house with 1996's Alien and the following year's Dance 2000. In late 1997, Heard suddenly declared that he had quit recording to take a computer-programming job in Memphis. Despite his seeming retirement from music, two more albums of new tracks filtered out in 1998. Yet another, Genesis, followed in 1999. For the 2001 album Love's Arrival, Heard signed to the respected house label Trackmode, and its follow-up, 2003's Where Life Begins, also appeared on the labe as did. Loose Fingers (soundtrack from the Duality Double-Play) appeared in 2005.

Spotlighting Larry Heard's seminal production work during the 1980s and '90s, Classic Fingers includes obvious Mr. Fingers/Fingers Inc. milestones like "Mystery of Love," "Distant Planet" and "Amnesia," plus quite a few obscure productions like , "Play It Loud" by House Factors, and the It's "Gallimauffry Gallery." Though it's quite an obscure compilation (available in 1- and 2-CD incarnations), not to mention two rather different versions depending on the label, this here is the Black Market International version. Nevertheless Classic Fingers in either verson is the best way to get the most material by Larry Heard's Mr Fingers..

The jazzier tracks from Larry Heard's only album for MCA coalesced in 1995 on the first of his Sceneries Not Songs full-lengths. Alen is extremely chilled out, with Heard focusing on very cosmic sounds and relegating the beat to a supporting position. He extends the fusion as well, covering the prevailing ambient-house boom (of which he was a prime influence).
The album is completely instrumental until the closing "The Beauty of Celeste." There's a bit of a space age Gil Scott Heron ranting on the top that doesn't quite break up the flow of the album, bit superfluos. This is still a great late night album for those of you who hope to travel with the jazzy sounds of Larry Heard's digital alien.

RhoDeo 1129 Goldy Rhox 32
Hello, today the 32nd post of Goldy Rhox, classic pop rock. There's so much to draw upon album wise as many acts produced several Goldy Rhox, todays band managed to turn every album (15) into gold during their first 20 years, the first two needed some more time, todays mystery album was the first that went gold upon release, i say gold but most of their work went platinum. Add to that 10 live and compilation Goldy Rhox then it should be clear that todays band is one of the biggest that ever was.

Todays mystery album is the third album by the British rock group, released in November 1974. It was produced by Roy Thomas Baker and the band. The album launched the band to mainstream popularity both in the UK and internationally: the first 'killer' single, reached #2 in the British charts and provided them with their first US Top 20 hit, peaking at #12 on the Billboard singles chart. It gave the band their first real experience of international success, and the album went gold on both sides of the Atlantic. Digressing from the progressive themes featured on their first two albums, this album featured more conventional rock tracks and marked a step towards what became the classic bands sound. In recent years, it has been listed by multiple publications as one of the band's best works, this rip here stems from the latest remaster with bonus disc.

RhoDeo 1129 Aetix
Hello, todays Aetix is more melodic as usual as three british indie pop-rock bands take center stage. The quality of their music wasn't transformed into big commercial succes, nevertheless they gained deserved respect and today you get the chance to either pick up on them again or enjoy these artists for the first time (what a treat).

Lloyd Cole and the Commotions were a British pop band that formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1982. Between 1984 and 1989, the band scored four Top 20 albums and five Top 40 singles in the UK. After breaking up in 1989, Cole embarked on a solo career but the band reformed briefly in 2004 to perform a 20th anniversary mini-tour of the UK and Ireland.
The band were formed whilst Cole (who was born in Derbyshire, England) was studying at the University of Glasgow. They signed to Polydor Records; their debut single "Perfect Skin" reaching number 26 in the UK charts in Spring 1984, while the second single "Forest Fire" reached 41. The first album, Rattlesnakes, was released in October 1984. Produced by Paul Hardiman and featuring string arrangements by Anne Dudley, the album peaked at #13 in the UK and was certified Gold for sales over 100,000 copies. NME included in its Top 100 Albums of All-Time list, and the title track was later covered by the American singer Tori Amos. The Welsh band Manic Street Preachers included the album amongst their top ten list.
Due to the insistence of their label[citation needed], the follow-up album, Easy Pieces, was produced by Clive Langer & Alan Winstanley (who had previously produced Madness, The Teardrop Explodes and Elvis Costello and the Attractions). Released in November 1985, the album was a much quicker commercial success than its predecessor (entering the UK album chart at #5 and certified Gold within a month). The singles "Brand New Friend" and "Lost Weekend" were the band's first and only UK Top 20 hits (reaching #19 and #17 respectively).
Two years later, the band released their third and final album, Mainstream. Produced by Ian Stanley (former writer and keyboard-player of Tears for Fears), the album peaked at #9 in the UK and was also certified Gold, but contained only one UK Top 40 single, "Jennifer She Said" (#31).
In 1989, the band decided to split up and released a "best of" compilation, 1984-1989, which was their fourth Top 20 album (UK #14) and fourth Gold certification. Following this, Cole embarked on a solo career with the release of his self-titled album in 1990.
On the first two Commotions albums, Cole was the band's main songwriter (though he co-wrote several songs with various bandmembers). The third album is credited to the band as a whole, though Cole remained the sole lyricist. Particularly notable were Cole's knowingly pretentious lyrics (he was studying Philosophy at the University of Glasgow when the band started) and namedropping the likes of Norman Mailer, Leonard Cohen, Arthur Lee, Grace Kelly, Truman Capote, Simone de Beauvoir, Nancy Sinatra, and Eva Marie Saint as well as referring to Sean Penn (somewhat sympathetically) as "Mr. Madonna".

Formed 1979 by Lawrence Hayward who recorded the first single 'Index' on his own and soon dropped his surname in fear of getting associated with another popular Hayward who isn't fully named here out of respect.
The first string of releases through Cherry Red Records featured soundscapes dominated by the playing of classically trained guitarist Maurice Deebank and audible influences by Television and the Velvet Underground. For some reason despite critical acclaim and a #1 indie single ('Primitive Painters') they never made it big but even were denied major support from Wea Records (through Blanco Y Negro). In March of 1982, Cherry Red released Felt's debut full-length album Crumbling The Antiseptic Beauty. While the album received little notice commercially, it received high marks from the independent music press. Despite the critical success, the band underwent personnel changes. Tony Race, who had joined the group after it signed with Cherry Red, left Felt and was replaced by Gary Ainge.
The Splendour Of Four sound is mellow, melodic, understated, lovely . . . it's the instrumental passages that work best, not to detract from Lawrence 'Lawrence' Hayward's breathy, (Lou) Reedy vocals and beautifully imagistic lyrics. In March of 1982, Cherry Red released Felt's debut full-length album Crumbling The Antiseptic Beauty. In 1984, Maurice Deebank released a full-length solo album titled Inner Thought Zone also released on the Cherry Red label. Deebank, like Gilbert, did not like to be directed by Hayward. Their relationship as Felt group members had always been difficult because of their musical differences. Deebank decided to produce the solo effort to allow an outlet for some of the music he was forced to hold back while with Felt
Ignite the Seven Cannons was the follow-up LP to "Primitive Painters." The full-length LP was released in September of 1985. Guthrie produced the album with the 4AD formula, and The Cocteau Twins were at the controls. Afterwards, Deebank left the group, but Hayward found another skilled musician to replace him. Martin Duffy had filled in on keyboards for the album and joined Felt full time in 1985. While Felt played a few shows in support of Ignite the Seven Cannons, Cherry Red was busy releasing a compilation album. Felt's next album, Let the Snakes Crinkle Their Heads to Death, was issued in September of 1986 on the Creation label. Duffy's organ added a '60s sound that worked well with Hayward's songs.
Forever Breathes The Lonely Wordfound Hayward back at writing lyrics and crafting some of his best Felt songs. The album was released in fall 86 on the Creation label. The song "All the People I Like Are Those That Are Dead" became a favorite on college radio and is now considered a classic to Felt fans. Felt followed with two more LPs in 1988 on the Creation label: The Pictorial Jackson Review released in March, and Train Above The City in July. Felt's swan song was the full length LP Me and a Monkey on the Moon released in November of 1989 on the El label. Hayward had to move to Mike Always' El label because Creation was not able to release the album before Hayward's self-imposed deadline of ten years, ten albums.
During the 80's Felt released ten albums & ten singles for the Cherry Red, Creation & el labels. For the first time ever, this compilation chosen by enigmatic frontman Lawrence, features the highlights of Felt's career on all three labels & proves they were the decades formative underground challengers. The album includes the indie hit singles 'Trails of Colour Dissolve', 'Penelope Tree', 'Sunlight Bathed the Golden Glow', 'Primitive Painters', 'Ballad of the Band', 'Final Resting of the Ark' & 'Space Blues'.

Prefab Sprout was formed in Newcastle, England, in 1977 by McAloon (who sings and plays guitar and piano) and his bass-playing younger brother Martin. In the group's early days, McAloon spun several fanciful tales about the origin of their odd name (one favorite was that the young McAloon had misheard the line "hotter than a pepper sprout" in Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood's "Jackson"), but the prosaic truth is that an adolescent McAloon had devised the meaningless name in homage to the longwinded and equally silly band names of his late-'60s/early-'70s youth. Drafting an early fan, Wendy Smith, into the lineup to sing helium-register backing vocals, the trio released their first single, "Lions in My Own Garden (Exit Someone)," on their own Candle label in July 1982.
Prefab Sprout's first album, Swoon, was released in March 1984. Containing neither of the first two singles (but leading off with the delightful "Don't Sing," their third), Swoon is in retrospect a surprisingly brittle record, full of difficult songs that take unexpected left turns and have all but impenetrable lyrics. Shortly after Swoon's release, drummer Neil Conti joined the group, and in a rather brilliant move, Thomas Dolby was tapped to produce the second Prefab Sprout album, 1985's Steve McQueen (retitled Two Wheels Good in the U.S. due to litigation from the late actor's estate). Dolby smoothes out the kinks a bit, and his keyboards help enrich the album's sound; it also helps that the songs are much better, lyrically opaque but not impenetrable and melodically satisfying.
Prefab Sprout returned to the studio without Dolby in the summer of 1985 and quickly recorded an album's worth of material that was initially meant to be released in a limited edition as a tour souvenir. However, several months after Steve McQueen was released, its song "When Love Breaks Down" became a hit, and CBS feared a new album would hurt its predecessor's sales, so the project was shelved. The "proper" follow-up to Steve McQueen was 1988's From Langley Park to Memphis. Although it was their biggest hit, thanks to the massive U.K. chart success of "The King of Rock and Roll". In 1990, Jordan: The Comeback, again produced by Thomas Dolby, was nominated for a BRIT Award. Though the music was more accessible than their earlier material, the lyrics and subject matter remained characteristically oblique and suggestive.
Early in the nineties McAloon alluded in interviews to several albums-worth of songs that he had written, amongst others, concept albums based on the life of Michael Jackson (Behind the Veil), the history of the world (Earth: The Story So Far) and Zorro the Fox about a fictional superhero. Their greatest hits, Life of Surprises: The Best of Prefab Sprout, gave them their biggest U.S. hit, "If You Don't Love Me" (92) Prefab Sprout released Andromeda Heights in the UK in 1997, while a short UK tour followed in 2000. This tour, and the subsequent album, did not feature Wendy Smith, who by this time had reportedly left the band, to focus on her motherhood. By now Prefab Sprout consisted of the McAloon Brothers they released The Gunman and Other Stories a concept album themed on the American West in 2001. After being diagnosed with a medical disorder which impaired his vision Paddy McAloon released the album I Trawl The Megahertz under his own name in 2003 on the EMI Liberty label. As of 2006, McAloon had suffered another setback: his hearing had deteriorated, reportedly due to Ménière's disease. In early 2007 a remastered Steve McQueen was released in a 2 CD package, containing new versions of eight of the songs from the original album, in radically different arrangements performed by McAloon on acoustic guitar.
From Langley Park to Memphis is Prefab Sprout's third album, and was released in March 1988. The album reached number five in the UK Albums Chart, the highest position for any studio generated album recorded by the band. Five singles were released to promote the album; in order of release these were "Cars & Girls", "The King of Rock 'N' Roll", "Hey Manhattan!", "Nightingales" and "The Golden Calf".

Hello, last time we were in Japan and today we cross the mighty pacific ocean, the gulf of Mexico and land on an island with a huge place in the global music catalogue, Jamaica. However we take one of last time's Japanese artists along, Dry & Heavy. They gave the tapes of their first two albums to a Jamaican dubmaster, King Jammy and the result blew them away. In The Jaws Of The Tiger is an amazing dub album.
***** ***** ***** ***** *****
Lloyd James, (born in 1947, Montego Bay, Jamaica), is better known as Prince Jammy or King Jammy the dub mixer and record producer. After earning money from building amplifiers and repairing electrical equipment from his mother's house in Waterhouse in the late 1960s, he started his own sound system. In 1976 Lloyd set up his own studio at his in-laws' home in Waterhouse, and released a couple of Yabby You productions. For the first few years of his career, Jammy almost exclusively made Dub. In 1977, Jammy was enlisted to mix the dub counterpart to Horace Andy's "In the Light," . That same year, he made his first notable venture into production work, recording the debut of Black Uhuru, In the late 1970s he began to release his own productions, including the debut album from Black Uhuru in 1977. Before he set out to rule modern dancehall as King Jammy, Lloyd James earned the lesser, but still regal title Prince Jammy,
In the 1980s, he became one of the most influential producers of dancehall music. His biggest hit was 1985's "Under Me Sleng Teng" by Wayne Smith, with an entirely-digital rhythm hook. Many credit this song as being the first "Digital rhythm" in reggae, leading to the modern dancehall era. Jammy's productions and sound system dominated reggae music for the remainder of the 1980s, Jammy continued to produce and record into the '90s, a decade that would see his own son, John John, emerging as a successful record-maker. And so he continues to work as a producer, working with some of today's top Jamaican artists.
Dry & Heavy is a Japanese dub and reggae band formed in 1991 by drummer Shigemoto Nanao (Dry) and bass player Takeshi Akimoto (Heavy). Their names come from a renowned Burning Spear album of the same name. The line-up which recorded the album Dry & Heavy came together in 1995 with Naoki Uchida on dub controls, Mitsuhiro Toike on keyboards, Kei Horiguchi on guitar, and the vocal duo of Likkle Mai and Ao Inoue. In 2001, during Fuji Rock founding member Takeshi Akimoto (Heavy) announced he was leaving the group, Audio Active's current bassist Pata, stepped in to fill the void. Takeshi Akimoto was the former bassist for Audio Active, and Shigemoto Nanao the former drummer of the same band.
This is a fascinating summit meeting between a reggae legend and Dry & Heavy. To create this album, King Jammy took tapes from two previous Dry & Heavy albums (One Punch and Full Contact) back to his Kingston studios and dubbed them up in fine, roots-wise style, employing all the tricks of echo, reverb, and drop-out that he learned at the feet of the master; the result is a masterpiece of dark and heavy dub that serves as a perfect companion to the albums on which it's based. Particularly noteworthy are "Rumble Dub," with its subtle use of sustained background echo, the charming "Radical Dubber" (featuring great vocals by Likkle Mai), and the instrumental saxophone showcase "King Cobra Dub."

RhoDeo 1129 Illuminatus 4th (3)
Hello, i hope you all arestill with it, i know it aint that easy and hey it aint the black and white world of Harry Potter. Today the 4th trips last 3 chapters of the first Trilogy band, confusingly part of the 2nd book Discord. There's 5 socalled books, containing 10 trips in all, these Trips have been subdivided into chapters aswell, all this would have been most confusing back then but these days our computers will cough it up nicely spread over The Trilogy Bands
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx

Sundaze 1129 T.M.C.
Hello, well the summer break here is over, i really needed it as i led things spill over again. It wasn't my intention to post as much as i did these last months, no more then 10 every week was the idea when i restarted this blog.. It steadily crept up to twice that. The thing is i'm sort of loosing out as the time that rests me to enjoy new music got less and less, not to mention keeping up a social life. Add to that a lack of interaction from visitors here, something i don't understand when i look at other blogs. Its not that i'm in need of thank you's, if everyone were to say thanks my mail account would be flooded day after day. However commenting gives also a sense of community, enforcing positive feelings about spending time here with all the other global visitors at Rho-Xs.
I begin the summer season at Sundaze with a collective that was the brainchild of one man, Ivo Watts-Russell, a label manager who set his label and his artists on the musical map thru the collaborative efforts under the name of This Mortal Coil. As these things go it was the b side of a 12" single that really got the ball rolling. The dreampop with an edge came at the right time too at the time cdees became more common and scratchfree listening all the rage. The big sound became available for the masses, not just for people with the expensive equipment. 4AD made good use of these signs of the times, the music itself lacked a label which was a bonus, ambient gothic would have been nice but i admit that is from hindsight.
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
This Mortal Coil was a gothic dream pop supergroup led by Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of the British record label 4AD. Although Watts-Russell and John Fryer were technically the only two official members, the band's recorded output featured a large rotating cast of supporting artists, many who were signed to, or otherwise associated with, 4AD.About half of the songs released were cover versions, often of 1960s and 1970s psychedelic and folk acts, which displayed those two genres' place in the history and formation of dream pop. On each of the band's three LPs, at least one song would also be a cover of a 4AD artist, and most of the original songs were instrumentals.
This Mortal Coil was not a band. Nor were they a clever Shakespearian moniker for a solo artist. Rather it was a unique collaboration of musicians recording in various permutations, the brainchild of 4AD kingpin Ivo Watts-Russell. The idea was to allow artists the creative freedom to record material outside of the realm of what was expected of them; it also created the opportunity for innovative cover versions of songs personal to Ivo.
Watts-Russell had founded 4AD in 1980, and the label quickly established itself as one of the key labels in the British post-punk movement. One of the label's earliest signings was Modern English. In 1983, Watts-Russell suggested that the band re-record two of their earliest songs, "Sixteen Days" and "Gathering Dust," as a medley. At the time, the band was closing their sets with this medley, and Watts-Russell felt it was strong enough to warrant a re-recording. When the band rebuffed the idea, Watts-Russell decided to assemble a group of musicians to record the medley: Elizabeth Fraser and Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins; Gordon Sharp of Cindytalk; and a few members of Modern English. An EP, Sixteen Days/Gathering Dust, resulted from these sessions.
Recorded as a B-side for the EP was a cover of Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren", performed by Fraser and Guthrie alone. Pleased with results, Watts-Russell decided to make this the A-side of the 7" single version of the EP, and the song quickly became an underground hit, leading Watts-Russell to pursue recording a full album under the This Mortal Coil moniker.
It'll End in Tears helped crystallize 4AD's emerging signature sound, and helped win a wider audience for their stable of artists.
Fryer and Watts-Russell put together a follow-up album, a sprawling and more varied collection, Filigree & Shadow covered songs by Tim Buckley, Colin Newman, Talking Heads, Pearls Before Swine, Gene Clark, Judy Collins, and Van Morrison in between the original compositions. The Cocteau Twins' Simon Raymonde was still a significant presence, and string player/arranger Martin McCarrick took a bigger role this time around; Steven Young and Mark Cox both returned, and members of Dif Juz were also prominent.
Much of the same core cast -- Watts-Russell, Fryer, McCarrick, Appleton, Limerick, and the Rutkowskis -- was on hand for the third and final This Mortal Coil album, the tighter Blood, issued in 1991. Covers this time out included two by Big Star's Chris Bell, Rain Parade, Spirit, Syd Barrett, and Rodney Crowell, among others. Watts-Russell had announced that he would retire the This Mortal Coil name following Blood, and remained true to his word. In 1993, he issued a limited-edition CD box set, 1983-1991, which packaged all three of the group's albums, plus a bonus disc featuring original versions of many of their covers. In 1998, Watts-Russell formed a similar but somewhat sparser project dubbed the Hope Blister.
xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
1984's It'll End in Tears was a surprisingly influential album in many circles, key in the reawakening of interest in artists like Alex Chilton and the late Tim Buckley by a younger generation of listeners. When released in late 1984, the album reached #38 on the UK Albums Chart. It features many of the artists on the 4AD roster at the time of issue, including Dead Can Dance, as well as key post-punk figure Howard Devoto, who sang "Holocaust", one of two covers of songs from the Third/Sister Lovers album by Big Star to appear on the album. The other Alex Chilton-penned track, the album opener "Kangaroo", was released as a single to promote the album. The simple but ravishing version of Buckley's "Song to the Siren" by Cocteau Twins Liz Fraser and Robin Guthrie has since been used several times in commercials and films. Their version of Buckley's haunting original showed continued popularity in alternative record shops as it spent almost 2 years on the UK Indie Chart.
The album mark 4AD's definitive break from its origins as an artsy post-punk imprint to the development of "the 4AD sound," a heavily reverbed wash of treated guitars and atmospheric keyboards with vocals treated as another instrument in an amorphous wash of sound.

Filigree and Shadow is the second in a line of three This Mortal Coil releases, and is considered by many to be the best. The great thing about Filigree and Shadow is how fresh it still sounds. It must have sounded like the proverbial sore thumb of the mid-1980s. It's heavy on effects and synthesizers, some tracks merely exist to establish mood and bridge gaps, and the overall mood is somber.
Filigree and Shadow distills the This Mortal Coil concept somewhat. There's more of a core group now, featuring Simon Raymonde of the Cocteau Twins, producer John Fryer, arranger Martin McCarrick, and Watts-Russell himself, backing a variety of mostly female singers. The double album is nearly half instrumentals most of which are pleasant enough but not particularly memorable. The vocal tracks, however, continue the debut's trend of intriguing versions of fascinatingly obscure covers. The album peaked at number two in the UK Independent Music chart, spending 16 weeks in total on the chart.

The third and final album by This Mortal Coil, 1991's Blood is neither as unfocused as Filigree & Shadow or as conceptually pure as It'll End in Tears, but it's a solidly enjoyable set. Once again, nearly half the tracks are instrumentals (or tracks with minimal and often wordless female vocals) written by Ivo Watts-Russell and John Fryer, but this batch of tunes holds together much better than the much more amorphous originals on Filigree & Shadow; lengthy atmospheric explorations like "Dreams Are Like Water" sound composed and thoughtful rather than merely pretty. And as always, the covers are brilliantly chosen. The twin highlights are two songs written by Big Star's Chris Bell; "I Am the Cosmos" and a delicate acoustic version of "You and Your Sister" with wispy, unsure vocals by Kim Deal and Tanya Donelly that ranks with the first album's reinterpretation of Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren" as one of the group's masterpieces and managed to enter the dutch single charts. Other gems include a near-symphonic reading of Spirit's "Nature's Way" and a version of Syd Barrett's "Late Night" that strips the song down to not much more than Caroline Crawley's voice and a low-frequency hum.
